This is my honest story for anyone looking to find out about Huntington Learning Center and how it chooses to treat people. If you are looking to tutor there I would suggest avoiding at all costs. And certainly, my bad experience probably doesn't speak well to how they also must treat parents and students. You aren't just awful with potential employees and wonderful with other people. Everything is a reflection.
A year ago I applied for a tutoring position at the Ramsey NJ center through LinkedIn. I immediately got a response from a junior manager expressing interest. She asked if I could do a phone meeting the next morning at 9 am. I set the time aside and no one ever called. I contacted the office and after a few days they responded and said the office manager would like to speak with me and could I possibly do 11 am the following morning? I figured it was an honest mistake and looked forward to the meeting. The next day, just as before, the manager didn't show up. I contacted Ramsey a 3rd time and they apologized and said she was traveling ..Could I speak with her the following day? I agreed and that was on me. Of course, she didn't show up again. When I contacted the Ramsey office a 4th time, they replied that magically I was no longer what they were looking for. No interviews. Broken promises, Disrespectful. No conversations, no explanations. You cn'nt go out of your way to treat someone like that. Never mind someone you don't even know who is responding to a Linke In employment position.
Fast forward a year and I see a tutoring position at Huntington in Wayne, NJ. I thought "Maybe it was a one-time thing connected specifically to the Ramsey center.. The experience was oddly almost identically scripted except a bit trickier and far more insensitive. Someone named Stacie called me and expressed interest and asked if I could meet with the office manager Geneva. She explained if that went ok I would take an SAT practice exam. She added " I can already tell you that Geneva will like you because you are very personable. 2 days later I met with office manager Geneva who explained the position was part-time and the pay was between $17-20 an hour. I guess in their minds paying someone $17 an hour ENTITLES them to treat people in any way they choose. The interview went fine, or at least no one expressed anything but nice things. She asked, "Could I come in to take the test on Saturday morning?" My family was leaving for the beach that morning but I wanted to be responsible and accountable. I came in at 10 on Saturday and took the test. When I left Stacie told me that it would be looked at on Sunday and they would either contact me then or on Monday. No, once again, not that at all, outright lie. Like that old familiar Ramsey tune, there was silence. I emailed Stacie on Tuesday and nicely asked how things were looking..No response. I called on Thursday and no one answered so I left a message. No response.. About 4 days later I already knew I was back in a Huntington hold but I sent this email - copied and pasted: "Hi Geneva, I'm completely confused by what has transpired. Stacie spoke with me on the phone, I came in and saw you, and you told me I had to take the test. I came in on time and took it. Stacie told me it would be looked at most likely on the next day. Regardless of whether I failed the test or you didn't perhaps want to hire me, I can't understand the silence. I would respect an honest answer and I always treat people as I wish to be treated. "
This incredulously was the curt, insensitive response I got from Stacie- pasted: "We have been busy with meetings and setting up on center for our summer program. Apologies for the delay.
At this time, we will not be able to move forward with your application.
Wish you the best of luck. "
Apparently there is a common theme with this odd company. I think that is a reasonable assumption. It's a terrible way to treat someone 2 times for only wanting to be employed as a tutor. And as I stated earlier, BEWARE, because if they are willing to treat me like that, there is no way they are miraculously going to care about parents , their children or any other human beings. I have never ever in my life written a negative review like this. I find it abhorrent how they twice chose to deal with me and for no explainable reason. Even if I didn't for some reason do well on the test that could've been professionally and respectfully explained and this review never would have happened. And as stated earlier with Ramsey I didn't even get a chance to speak to anyone or take a test. It was outright trickery. . I have 3 children and many friends with children and if they ever ask about tutoring centers I will be certain to warn them to avoid this place. Shame on you Huntington. read more
