Since this state is known for its green chile cheeseburgers, I had to try Fina's which is called a Mexican burger on the menu. Its a little unconventional: the burger is swimming in the chile sauce (see photo), so instead of eating it with your fingers you have to cut it with a knife and eat with a fork after sopping up the sauce with the bun. God it was good. Couldn't finish all my fries, too stuffed. The proprietor is a hoot. On the way out I noticed the overstuffed fruit turnovers in the bakery case. It was not the traditional elbows, which was great. The potato salad was of the German variety which I like and was also very tasty. we finished off the meal with some waters and a Coke zero. This is a simple barbecue truck with a very nice owner. There is a picnic table beside the truck under a tree which made for a delightful treat. Good wine and beer selection, though I didn't sample. Next morning featured a steady trickle of folks coming in, some for takeout coffee, some to sit and connect to wi-fi while enjoying the sunshine. Service is a bit on the slow side, and they don't have an outside speaker to announce when orders are ready, so you have to listen for the shout from inside, or stay in the order area until yours is ready.

Keeping in mind that this is a small inn in Chama NM, and not a big city, we got a kick out of some of the quirks. When I first tried booking the room, I got an answering machine because the keeper (Terrie) was picking her son up from school. However, I got a call back a little later and we reserved a room. We said we would be rolling in a little late and she assured us that she'd leave the back porch light on for us and the room would be waiting. The room we stayed in was in the main house and was wonderful. It was as clean and spacious as you would expect from a B&B. Along with the comfy beds, it had a small kitchen/sink area and some other furniture to lounge around on. It was warm and cozy, felt like staying at a relative's house. The only downside was there was only a very limited continental breakfast. For us this wasn't a big deal as we were in a bit of a hurry to hit the road. But don't plan on a big breakfast here. We would definitely stay here again if we were passing through.
