Let the Buyer Beware! And this buyer made a stupid and costly mistake - but can't help but feel betrayed by this business. Part time resident of Colorado and mostly resident of Maryland - my significant other and I stopped in to the Den yesterday - never been there before but we always stop when we see small, local gun shops. We like to keep it local as much as we can and have always been satisfied before. The scoop: We are always looking for ammo -- in particular .22 LR and .22 mag. Hard to find and usually limited to 1 or 2 boxes at the most. I was very excited - too excited as it turns out - to discover that there was no limit here and they had 9 boxes of .22 mag and 4 boxes of .22LR in stock. Well - there you go. I got ahead of myself and stupidly didn't ask or look at the price before I bought all they had. I should have flinched and stepped back and reconsidered when I signed the first credit card slip for almost $350, but frankly math is not my strong suit and I was distracted looking to see where my other half was. He was looking at scopes and guns (he did buy a scope and a gun case). It wasn't until later that I finally realized that the .22LR cost 4 TIMES what I have paid everywhere else and the .22 mag was $30 for 50 rounds! I know -- it was my fault. The responsibility is mine to look at prices but honestly it never would have occurred to me that the price would be THAT BIG OF A RIPOFF. I bought ammo last week at a store outside of Everett, PA and two days before this at another gun store in Mount Airy, MD and they were charging what I've see as the "norm" - again, about 4 times cheaper. I bet the guys were laughing themselves silly at what an idiot I was. Of course they have lots of ammo - nobody paying attention would pay those prices! It's really too bad. We are good customers - in fact have bought five guns (rifles and pistols) between us this year along with scopes, cases, ammo, etc., etc., etc. But I can assure you that our business won't be going to the Hunters Den in the future. Yes - it was my fault. But I will not do business with a store that price gouges like that. read more
