On my vacation to Kauai, Hawaii I set up a fishing charter for me and my family. Alapai Toulon was the captain of the charter boat, and we started taking about hunting, fishing, wildlife management, and the love of the outdoors. After putting us on some fish, still trying to land the BIG one. Alapai told me he was a hunting guide, and that him and his brother run game hunts in Kōlōa. So I set up a Boar hunt for the following day, Alapai was very knowledgeable guide and his love for the land and animals is what made me choose him for my GREAT HUNTING ADVENTURE, I arrived at his compound and he set up some targets for me to shoot at to see what he had to work with. After killing some foam targets, Kodi showed up & it was getting close to 5pm, ( the midday sun was gone and the temperature was dropping. Perfect time to start hunting Boar. ) The brothers set me up in the hunting blind & the wait was on, it wasn't more that 30-40 minutes before the little ones started to show up, there was this little one that was VERY Skittish and kept freaking out the pack, so I put an arrow through him, he ran for 18 yards then dropped dead, the guys ran out and dragged him out of the kill zone. Another 45 minutes and they came back again, this time a Monster Boar came into view, ( which I didn't have a clean shot on) and they spooked, gone. Another 30 minutes and they came back again. They kept trying to cross into the farmers field and eat his crops. This time a nice 97Lbs Boar came into view, I controlled my breathing, took aim, and TWANG the arrow was off and hit the boar (it was a little off) so after the boar ran into the brush, we waited a bit before they got there dog that a trained to track blood, after some trekking through the thick brush we finally came across the boar that had bled out. The brothers hauled this big Boar back to the truck and we grabbed the other one and drove back to their compound, where we had a cold beer and Alapai and Kodi Butchered the 2 boars for me plus gave me some smoked sausage that they had made up previously. So in 36 hours, Alapai put me on some Yellow fin Tuna & Mahi Mahi, then 2 boar, making my trip to Kauai, Hawaii a very productive one, and an experience I will never forget. I have nothing but good things to say about Garden Island Outfitters/HuntFishKauai. The communication was easy with fast replies to questions, the pricing was very fair, and the guides were friendly and knowledgeable. I visited the island in both March and October of 2015. Prior to my March visit I had wanted to hunt Kauai hog. The only outfit I found in March was highly priced. Around $1600 for a one day hog hunt. I checked again prior to my October visit and I found Garden Island Outfitters/HuntFishKauai. And I am glad I did. First, they were friendly and professional. Second, the price was more than half of what the competition's rate. I contacted GIO/HFK early in my trip to see if they would be able to accommodate a hunt sometime during our weeklong visit. I didn't expect to be accommodated due to my short notice request. Not only did they get right back to me they also had space available. I set up a afternoon/evening hunt with Alapai and Kodi. On the day of the hunt I met Alapai and Kodi at their place and took a few practice shots with my bow to ensure it was still sighted in after the plane trip. They had tools available to adjust my bow sights and 3D targets to take practice shots. They explained the area where we would be hunting, what type of hunting we would be doing (blind hunt in Kauai, pretty thick for spot and stalk), and what I should expect. After I was sighted in we headed out to the blind site. The blind easily has enough space for 3 or four people and had a good view of the area where shots would be taken. It was a short wait for the pigs to start making a show of themselves. I was able to harvest a pig in about an hour and a half and it dropped no more that 50 yards from the blind. We loaded it up and brought it back to their place where they started to butcher it for me. They did a great job getting all the useable meat and we're faster and more efficient that I would have been. They packaged the meat in Ziplock's and back to the rental and into the freezer it went. I want to say Mahalo to Alapai and Kodi for a fun evening hunt. They are good guys and have great knowledge without the attitude. if your going to kauai,instead of following the tourist seen,try booking a pig hunt in advance with kodi and Alapai of hunt fish kauai. Day two of our ten day stay on the beautiful island of kauai, Kodi came and picked up my friend and i and took us for a short drive to a private gated area and drove us to an old hawaiian house,(kind of like a base camp).ounce there we chose our weapons choosing from the latest in technology of crossbows and mathews compounds .I chose a 65# compound similar to mine at home with mechanical broadheads.I was given enough time to shoot and feel comfortable so away we went,me with Kodi (in a tree stand) and my friend with Alapai(in a ground blind).these guys did their homework .It didn't take long for the excitement to begin.There were pigs working in and out of the dense tropical forrest at both blinds. big ones ,small ones, and some crazy color patterns Before long i chose my pig and made a clean shot ,and with some help we found my pig not 60yds. away.But the fun doesn't end there,we get back to the base house where kodi and alapai debone the pigs and we freeze everything for the trip home.we're taken back to our condo to enjoy the next 8 days of sites with our families, chuckling a little knowing full well you won't touch a hunt like this for the value,let alone meet some great guys that are hunters like us. our last day we got our frozen meat,put it in cooler and on the plane with no problems.Thanks guys for a real vacation.Bob Scott Whidbey Island WA. I was on Kauai for a little family reunion and wanted to go on a fishing charter so began to ask around for recommendations. We asked a few locals we had met and they said Hunt Fish Kauai had been catching a lot of fish and has a really nice large boat that handles the rough Hawaii waters well. They also mentioned that they are on the western side of the island where the wind is usually not as strong making the seas a lot calmer. With that we booked a 6 hour charter. We arrived and the boat and crew were waiting there to greet us with the boat running and ready to go. The boat was clean and well maintained. Captain Kodi was very friendly giving us a history of the island as well as explaining the fishing methods and what they were searching for that day. It wasn't a few hours into the trip that we had 2 big tuna's being fought at the same time. The crew knew exactly what to do in helping land the fish of a lifetime. What an experience and memory for me and my family. We ended the trip with 3 large tuna's. One coming in at over 190lbs. We couldn't have asked for anything more. I recently went on a pig hunt with Alpai, and cody. My buddy and I split up and I got my first pig within 3 minutes of getting into blind. After that Alpai took my pig and started processing the meat while I sat waiting for another one. He came back shortly and it was on. We had another large pig in front of us. I took it and did not have the best shot. We waited 30 minutes and went in. We recovered it quickly. My buddy on the other hand did not get one. They invited us back the following day. He got one within 20 minutes of getting into the blind. This was my second hunt with theses guy's. They are very professional and know what they are doing. I went to Kauai on my honeymoon and decided to charter a boat. My wife and I booked a private 6 hour charter, I have been on many private charters and this was my wife's first time. The captain and mate were friendly, professional and WANTED TO CATCH FISH. They used top notch equipment and knew where to go. We caught 3 beautiful mahi mahi and reeled in a 4th that shook off the hook just before it could be grabbed by the mate. We took some of our catch over 2lbs of fish and got it cooked at a bar up the block they recommended, can't get any fresher and better than that! Trust me use them they are honest, friendly and knowledgeable. I will return to boar hunt with this company next trip back. read more

We highly recommend a hog hunting trip with Hunt Fish Kauai. Alapai was friendly, knowledgeable, and had everything ready for our hunt. Once we got to the blind, the chickens flocked in to the clearing, followed by a few small pigs, then a large boar. He was skittish and ran away; then he would come back. He did this a few times before he settled in for a clean shot. Alapai took a video and pictures for us. After a little trekking through the thick trees and vines, we found him. Alapai helped us load him out in the truck. He had a taker for the meat, so we donated it. Overall a great experience!!! My husband has gone before in Oklahoma and Texas. My fiancé and I booked a 4 hour trip and the other couple cancelled on us last minute. We showed up on time at 6am and instead of sending us home because the boat wasn't full, Kodi and the deckhand Nick still took us out for the full time paid and ended up being a private charter for us! Seas were high and the wind was up, and we only managed to catch a small Mahi Mahi but we still had a blast doing it. Kodi and crew are very professional and friendly and actually WANT to catch fish and make sure you have a good time. They operate a quality boat that's in great shape, not once did we feel unsafe. It is a great hunting experience in the jungles of Kauai and allows you to hunt with a first class guide who is knowledgeable on the species and very friendly. The captain and his deck men were so polite and nice, they made our visit as pleasant as can be with the weather conditions. We only caught a barracuda and a wahoo between the 6 of us, but thats worth it for us. The weather was stressful, majority of us felt sick, but the moral of the crew kept us going. They handled us with care, assuring us, and handling the boat and the fish with expertise.
