I just paid the observer fee and was the official photographer. (I recommend a sealed camera case around your neck). We launched out of Nawilliwilli Harbor. It was just our family and another couple on the small boat. I think there were about 8 rods in the water. John and Joe were the very chill captain and crew. We also saw a whale jump out of the water! Beautiful day! Highly recommended for those who want a relaxing, chill, fishing experience - not a touristy event. These guys were mellow and experienced fishermen. Not talkative but helpful- which I appreciated. Be aware that the sea was very rough. If you get sea sick, this isn't for you! The other couple on board spent the whole time upchucking overboard. We love the sea, so it was perfect for us. Our teens loved it because they love outdoor adventures. But young kids and feint of heart might want to pass. We were on rough water for 4 hours!

When your family lives for fishing, booking a trip to Kauai comes with one major follow-up…read morequestion: "Where are we deep sea fishing?" Enter HuntFishKauai, Captain Matt, and his mate Noah - the dynamic duo who made our fishing dreams come true. Our party of six showed up bright-eyed (but maybe not bushy-tailed, given the early hour), and Matt and Noah welcomed us aboard with big smiles, safety tips, and stories that had us cracking up before the sun was even up. Off to the buoy we went, braving the choppy waves. Noah suggested switching my brother's Spotify playlist to Hawaiian reggae for good fishing juju. We were mid-Bluetooth connection when BAM - first catch of the day! The fish must've loved the vibe, because soon we were reeling in ahi left and right. Things got real when a sneaky shark decided it wanted in on the action, snatching a nearly 25-pound tuna right off the line. Cue the gasp-worthy moment of the day as we all gawked at the shark trailing along the boat like a scene straight out of Nat Geo. Don't worry - the shark got its prize (sans hook) and swam off, leaving us with an unforgettable story. Speaking of unforgettable, my giant ahi took everything I had, but Noah coached me like a pro. The reward? A photo-op with my beast of a catch that I'm probably never going to stop bragging about. The grand finale? A monster mahi-mahi leaping 8 feet into the air behind the boat. My brother took the reins on this one, and Matt and Noah expertly wrangled the rare catch into the boat. Mahi-mahi have been a rarity in Kauai's waters, so we felt like fishing royalty bringing that beauty in. By the end of the day, we were rolling in fresh ahi, a prized mahi, and memories that are already legendary in our family lore. Back at the port, Matt's filleting skills were as sharp as his fishing expertise. His cooking tips? Even sharper. Let's just say our dinner that night was chef's kiss perfection. If you're looking for a fishing charter that's equal parts fun, expert, and downright thrilling, HuntFishKauai is it. Thanks, Matt and Noah, for giving us a day we'll be reminiscing about for years (and maybe decades) to come!

Captain Grant and Mana were excellent guides on our trip and were informative on not just fishing but any of the questions we had about Kauai. Including my wife and I, our 13 and 11 year old boys went with us. They had a great time and learned a bunch. I had never been deep sea fishing in Hawaii before and the trip was worth it. While the biting was slow early, Captain Grant and Mana didn't give up and by the end our trip we were able to snag a 20 lbs. Ono. Biggest fish my boys or I have caught to date and wish we could have taken some to eat but our hotel had no where to cook it. However, the fish was a great experience and if we get the chance to go back to Kauai and Captain Grant is still guiding tours, we would definitely return to his boat. Also a side note, Fisher was awesome to meet.

We met up at his kiosk in Koloatown and he gave me a quick primer on Hawaiian shore fishing before turning me loose with a rod, bucket, and a bunch of tackle. The best part? The price. Justin was totally cool with letting me head out on my own and hooking me up wth a solid price to just use some gear for an afternoon. I went out and caught a few small fish, and met up with Justin the next morning to return the gear. All was good.
