Vegan Corn Dog Basket - Portland Famous

What a cool little dive bar! The vibe in here is so relaxed and casual and I had a really great time with my group. Came for happy hour and ordered some food which all hit the spot. I'd rate it slightly better than your regular bar food. They had a great selection of drinks! Bartenders were super quick and very nice

My friend told me about this cool bar in Portland that has a pool table plus it's vegan friendly & meat friendly and I was sold! We went (party of 4) on a Friday night around 8:30pm, there was only street parking available but it wasn't difficult to find a spot. It was pretty busy with a long line to order food & drinks but the line went fast and we got our food within 30 minutes. Inside the bar there are tables around the pool table area and it can get quite loud. It was a little hard to have a conversation inside but it's a bar, people are eating, drinking and playing pool so it's expected. There is also an outside patio area. We ordered so much food and I loved every bite! For starters we ordered 2 vegan corn dogs which were everything I've been missing for the past 9 years. They were so good I got a little suspicious wondering if they were really vegan. The corn dogs are house battered and served with a sauce of your choice. The vegan Tiger Fries were incredible! They kind of reminded me of disco fries because of the vegan cheese sauce mixed with the rosemary and garlic. They also offer regular Tiger Fries which our friends ordered and enjoyed. We ordered two different vegan Mac's - vegan Chicken and Broccoli & vegan Cheeseburger Mac. Both very delicious! The veg chicken and broccoli was made with Beyond Chicken that was seasoned in house - I loved it! The veg Cheeseburger Mac was made with Beyond Beef which was also seasoned in house - this was full of flavor and tastes exactly how you'd imagine. Some non vegan appetizers that were ordered - Soft Pretzel with Cheese - friends said the pretzel was great but the cheese sauce wasn't warmed up and it was more of a goo than a sauce. Hard to dip the pretzel. Tiger Fries with Parmesan and garlic aioli - friends said these were delicious and they would order them again. Teriyaki Chicken Bowl- friends said the sauce was nice, it was served with broccoli, carrots, green onion and breaded chicken. Overall we had a great experience and will go back for more vegan friendly and meat friendly options!

Back again with another review for Hungry Tiger. The vegan wings, smothered with bbq sauce, were delicious, and perfect for dipping in ranch. A crunchy texture! And of course, you have to try the famous corn dog.

This place gets 5 stars because I love it!! Nothing says comfort food like fries and corn dogs...well for me at least. I haven't been able to get a decent one in the 23 years I have been vegetarian. This place is legit good! It's down inside street so it took an extra minute to find it which makes it all that much better. It looks as if it's in the ground floor of an older home. You walk in to a bar and dark hole-in-the wall vibes. There aren't a ton of tables so I feel like this place is more of a "bar" than a restaurant. We sat at the bar got a drink special (shot and beer) and ordered the fries and corndogs. All came out so crispy and fresh we ate every morsel. My only complaint if there is one was the bartender. Zero personality, he just stood there barely saying a word, looking like he was annoyed we were there. We had to spark some kind of discussion with him since we were the only patrons. Besides him this place is a 5 star for me. We came twice during our 3 day stay!!

A dear friend introduced me to a favorite spot of hers. The Hungry Tiger has two things.... 1) A SOLID foot hold into the potential for being one of the last true hold outs of punk rock bathrooms in Portland. I do not give this title.... Just the potential for a nod or possible honorable mention. Although there were Clorox wipes in there also so that might take them straight out of the running since that squelched a lot of fear one should have in a proper punk rock scene bathroom where you were fearful to even hover over the lid. 2) One of the crabbiest bar tenders in PDX - just wow, why you so mad? Apparently asking what kind of cheese they had for my burger was taking our relationship to a level she did not consent to. Maybe I look like her ex-wife? I do not know but me and my friend kept doing whatever we could to go to the other person because he was delightful. I know we all gotta earn a living but when you are talking to people as if you want to do damage to their face, maybe dealing with the public isn't your jam? Later she seemed to be having a drink as a customer staring at her phone in between glaring at others. Me and my friend are super friendly too so she was seriously coming for us for no reason. This was a cute space too with pretty alright food. Got a bit busy towards 11 with some nice locals. I did love all the Tiger vibes - embracing a theme is pretty great and so is a nice paint job. Makes you want to stay and hang out. MY friend is a vegan and this spot has a ton of options for her and also a bunch of meat for those of us who go either way. The burger was beef for me and honestly I sort of wished I grabbed a veggie one because the flavor was meh... The tots were that perfect crispy though and I was having some jealousy looking at my friend's nachos which looked pretty amazing.

He then proceeds to ask us about marijuana products on our person..... WAIT, WHAT? This is the Pacific Northwest, my guy. I've seen legit bongs on curbside picnic tables at other bars (Thunderbird on Foster). But this guy wants to peruse your bags trying to find weed. I lied to this securi-nerd, and waltz'd past him. I'm a grown adult, my legal toking is none of your business. Took awhile to get two basic beers. We were met with smiles by staff, but they didn't ask us if we wanted a drink or menu. Finally someone came over and took our drink order. This was a one and done place for us. It has this fake feeling of a PACNW dive bar. It didn't feel legit. It felt put on. Noticed a large table of locals wearing "OREGUNIAN" sweatshirts, and the vibe at this place is just way off. I felt like I was on the East coast--not the West coast. Again, who asks patrons if thy have weed on them with zero explanation? Every single music venue I've been to in Portland could not give less of a crap about your weed vape, so why does this pretend dive bar? What a weird, un-Portland like vibe. The ick is real.

On entering for lunch, the customer journey is unknown. We should not be an explorer without a map! In front of the stairs is a stand one would logically consult on seating. You would usually have a sign, which today should span languages, on seating. "Seat yourself" or see front-ofhouse person. But no, the stand in front of the stairs is not the front-ofhouse person. They are dedicated to providing utensils and napkins. How does a new arrival even know where the front-of-house person is? Restaurant 101. The front-of-house is behind the bar and not very attentive to new arrivers. New arrivers are your customers! That person is also the final bill person. By observation they seemed idle much of the time. Next, the upholstery of my seat was stained. Either clean it to invisibility or replace it. Any restaurant should check the condition of tables and chairs daily. At this level of restaurant, it is basic. We are not a dive. I was there for their loss leader crab sandwich special but ordered more, so I was not a loss leader customer. Bring a real napkin because a dish with small pieces will have small pieces fall out. The server from the kitchen brought small paper cocktail napkins. Instead I had to get a napkin and fork from the utensils and napkins cart myself. I guess, oddly, becoming familiar with where napkins were, thinking they were front-of-house, was useful in disguise! No refilling water. The dishes seem to be served by kitchen staffers. There was no checking on customer experience mid-meal or on billing. "Is/was everything OK?" Wow! I would have told them what I am writing. The menu was pretty standard today in items and price. I would say my sandwich was unnecessarily salted. I'm in favor of flavored by ingredients. I would say this is a fine hotel bar among many choices downtown. It is on the second floor, aside from the stains, pleasant, and there are public spaces in this hotel for meetups and meetings. But it needs a review of customer experience design, who does what, and the customer journey, stat. If Marriott is doing this nationally, they are failing. Good design is not expensive, it can operate at any price point. Maybe robots will improve things? None of the staffers should be blamed, it is design and management which are lacking.

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

We came to Teardrop Cocktail Lounge while visiting Portland and were genuinely impressed…read more The cocktails were excellent -- thoughtful, well-balanced, and clearly made by people who know what they're doing. One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.
