Haven't used them for pest control but I received great customer service when I stopped in recently to have a bug identified. I'd found an insect in my cat's bed and was nervous it might be a bed bug although it didn't quite look like photos I saw online. I put it in a jar, brought it into the store and an employee examined it under a microscope. She told me it was just a harmless insect from outside and showed it to me on a large chart. So grateful this saved me thousands of dollars in exterminator fees. read more

The only reason they don't get one star is because the technician who came to my house was thorough, friendly and always did a good job. I woke up today to steady stream of ants all over my counter near the stove. I called for an appointment on May 4th, and was told that they couldn't come to May 13th. . I know it may be the busy season, and that I'm not the only customer that they are sitting around waiting to serve, but having to wait 9 days seems extreme. I was influenced by the other reviews. The 81 year old woman who owns this place is too old and out of touch with today's business environment. Go elsewhere. read more

I took my bugs into the store and the lady kinda looked at them and said they were gnats. She said they come from moisture. I already knew they were gnats, hopeing for more information. After I told her mostly in kitchen she said I must have a broken pipe. I told her that was already inspected. She did not offer any other solution. I was very disappointed in the non help I received. She could have at least set up exterminator service for me. read more

Our latest service tech with Humphreys is AMAZING!!! He has been awesome addressing our issues, trying different techniques, and getting things on the right track. I am amazed how thorough and conscientious he is about his job and it is clear to me in the results he has achieved for us. This is a tough job, but this tech is the best we have had over the last 4 years. I would highly recommend him and the pest control service he provides. read more

Their service was great. I called for an extermination appt, but couldn't come for a few weeks. They asked me if I felt comfortable using chemicals and doing it myself . They were professional, gave detailed instructions and didn't try to oversell me. read more

I've had mixed experiences with Humphrey's. I've hired them for both termites and carpenter ants. As far as the actual pest control goes, I have no complaints. Their business operations, though, seem to need improvement. When I bought my house, I took over an existing termite control contract on the house. I paid the bill for the first two years, but the second year they 'lost' the payment - they cashed my check but didn't credit my account (this was eventually resolved). After that, I never heard from them again. I would have kept renewing my termite contract, but they never contacted me and I just forgot about it, so I suppose my house will collapse some day... read more

We called Humphreys some time ago, they came out and did a great job.They followed up once a month and did a great job. However, it's been going on four months since our last service. Today they left a message confirmation on when they where coming out, then later in the day they left a voicemail saying that our appointment was cancelled. We have come to the conclusion that this is a mom and pop operation. They tell us all of the problems that their employees are having as to why they cancelled our appointments these past months. We are given a song and a dance as to what happened. We just wanted to know can they do the service or not. In closing, they give good service but are extremely unreliable. read more

We live in the woods over by Lorimer park so have lots of spiders and critters by our property. These guys have done a great job cutting back on those coming into the house. We can tell from all the spider carnage. We would definitely recommend their service. I don't really understand the negative reviews. read more

When they first inspected my 60 year old house, I thought the termite inspection was thorough and professional, but I know little about termites and nothing about the termite and pest control business. Year after year, I'd pay the renewal fee to keep the guarantee coverage - a guarantee their website says is "the best in the industry" yet the guarantee is not on their website. So I started to ask questions like "Don't you want to inspect my home if you're guaranteeing reparations caused by termites?" and "how do you pay for reparations - do you have insurance or some cash reserves?" These questions were never answered. so finally when the 2015 renewal became due, I asked for an inspection, with the idea being to get a termite-free bill of health for my house, and I'd simply pay the technician when he came out, not minding the fact that the guarantee is probably not one that Humphreys can actually make good on if there was serious termite damage to the home. I phoned to set the appointment up and the operator said they'd call me back to schedule date and time, the call never came. Now, three weeks after my "coverage expiration date", I called again and they replied have no record of the call and that my coverage has ended and I'd have to set up a new coverage contract. Humphreys never tried to call back to retain my business. I will start new coverage with another pest control company. This looks like a recurring invoicing scheme, they send out bills claiming coverage while doing nothing and collecting money - and Humphreys cannot explain how any "coverage" is really guaranteed. It's a shame, this was once a very reputable company that like other reviewers mentioned "seemed to have lost its way". Ten hours following Humphrey's external treatment for a large yellow jacket nest in our attic, we found ourselves battling a swarm of live yellow jackets INSIDE our home. We explained to the technician that my 86-year-old father, who lives with us, was in treatment for cancer and also highly allergic to stings. We also expressed concern at the point of service, that the external spray treatment applied, appeared to us to be superficial and might subject us to risk if the nest was disturbed externally, rather than directly neutralized or eradicated. Nevertheless, we trusted Humphreys to professionally address the situation. Instead, my husband and I were chasing a swarm of live yellow jackets inside our home until 2am, to avoid my father being stung, potentially, fatally. Our long-planned family weekend was ruined by painful wasp stings. Four days later, we are still dealing with live and dying yellow-jackets inside our home. The day after treatment we contacted the company to report this horrifying experience, in the hopes of an appropriate apology and refund. Instead, we were treated rudely and offered a partial credit toward future service. Under the circumstances described, future services, which in our opinion was reckless, from this company is not desired. Although we are not seeking financial restitution from this complaint, we'd like to note that the cost of a 20-minute treatment at yard level with an over-the-counter spray can was $343.50. Our check was presented to our bank for payment several days after reporting our experience and requesting return of the check. It is difficult to find credible pest control services. However, we'd like to warn potential clients, especially those with bee sting allergies of our experience with this company. read more

We began using Humphreys in Glenside in 2008 for carpenter ants. Initial cost to exterminate was nearly $400. We agreed to also do an annual service contract for around $90. We had them come out semiannnally and they seemed fine. But this year, sugar ants appeared on the cedar fence adjacent to our home and a call to Humphreys let us know from a representative that our contract covered treatment. Sounds great. But fast forward two months, 7 visits and more ants migrating into our house later and it's terrible. The owners wife twice argued with us this week saying our contract shouldn't have covered this treatment (news to us), and they were basically no longer interested in serving us bc our annual fee doesn't cover the visits' cost. Speaking with "Mrs. Humphrey" was like having a circular argument with someone who just kept throwing out random information but couldn't suggest productive ways to move forward. I got the feeling they just found a situation they couldn't fix and just tried to get out of it. Had this really not been covered under our contract, Humphreys should have explained that at the outset and we could have decided to pay more then or go with another company. We don't want service for free, but we do expect our vendors to be effective. Disappointing. And we still have the ants. I always support local business, but suggest you look elsewhere if you need an exterminator in the Philadelphia area. read more

I have bed bugs and Humphreys were to my house 4 times. It is past the warrenty time, so I did call them to advise the problem still exists - their response was "sorry". Another company is coming today. The other company told me the problem is in the box springs and needs to be covered with a special plastic as Humphreys only did the mattress. The bottom line is you get what you pay for!! read more

Humphreys had certified my previous home before we purchased it. When I had them come out the first time the exterminator arrived without a flashlight or ladder and had no idea what he was doing. I changed companies and the new company found lots of old damage that had not been revealed. I won a suit against Humphreys in small claims court but they never paid. They went bankrupt and then started a new company. When I sold my house I had thousands of dollars of expense to repair that old unrevealed damage. read more

Shady. Paid the balance in full, then received a bill for more charges later. Called them and they said that was the charge for taxes. The person they sent didn't have a ladder, wanted to kill a huge wasp nest by leaning out a bedroom window. Unprofessional, unsafe, expensive and hidden charges to boot. read more

Had Them inspect a property that I purchased about a month ago. It appears they actually didn't inspect and just issued a clean report. I have now found 10 feet of termite damage in the only place they had to inspect. (the band joist above a poured concrete basement. It is a full open basement with no obstructions. The inspector came back out the day after and looked at what i found. After a little back and forth he said "I'm human and everyone makes mistakes.... This is what we have insurance for". So i thought things were going to be ok and would be taken care of. Today i call in because it's been 3 days and i have gotten no information about how to proceed. The office manager calls me back and says "Why are you calling me?" I explain how i used them for an inspection and have now found damage on what they were paid to inspect. He then proceeded to berate me for calling him and talk over me every time i tried to answer a question he asked. We are now going to be in a very fun lawsuit.
