I attended Hummingbird Music for 2 years and was horrified by the low quality and jacked prices of my experience once i had looked around.
I went to Hummingbird with the ambition of learning the guitar. When i first began, i had a lovely 12th grade teacher named Shannon. She had a Metallica dedication and crazy wardrobe. But that's pretty much where the excitement ended. She would simply ask what I wanted to learn, look up the tabs and teach it to me that way. When I asked to learn about music theory, she responded saying it was "too complicated" i had never learnt chords or anything even relatively useful other than little tricks (hammer-ons, pull-offs, vibrato, etc.).
After being crammed in a VERY small space for such a small time, my mother was coughing up irrational amounts of money. Nearly $140 per month, or $35 per 30 minute lesson. I thank the guitar gods that i left that place everyday
Once i got out, i taught myself everything i needed to develop and hired a private teacher who comes to houses and such. $25 per 30 minute lesson and his knowledge of music and teaching abilities are endless.
I definitely wouldn't suggest settling here. All other friends i know who attended never stuck to it. Sucks the fun and originality right out of playing. No lesson structure or space to breath. read more
