I stood there for about 10 mins, he never even acknowledge my presence, just talking on the phone and smiling. Returned about 1.5 hours later. The same guy was flirting with a lady, never acknowledged my presence. After a few minutes, Daniel, assistant mgr appeared. I started by mentioning that the previous mgr offered to waive enrollment fee for me. Daniel said it was impossible for him to do. I offered to pay in full for a whole year - no help. But Daniel never mentioned that Crunch website was offering enrollment special for a reduced enrollment fee of 26 cents. I've decided to to pay in full anyway, for convenience. Daniel wrote a contract where numbers make absolutely no sense, he never offered to show me the contract ( I trusted him because I had such a good memories of talking with Patrick, the previous manager) The total is $189. Almost $50 more than the website offer. The next day I wrote about the problem to the manager@crunchRoslindale.com. Five days and no reply. I was out of state for 5 days. Today, 1.4.2026, I went in person to try resolve the problem. Daniel refused any help. I am surprised that $50 is more important than a happy, retuning customer. Jay Halicki

About six months ago I made the switch over to Crossfit Boston Iron and Grit and it has been…read moreeverything I was looking for in a Crossfit gym and more. Here are the reasons why: The Coaches: There are four main coaches- Owner Tina, Brian, Miguel, and Mel- and they are all top-notch. They are a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their craft. No matter whether a class has 2 or 15 people in it, they make sure each member is getting the coaching he/she needs to participate safely, get a great workout in, push themselves, and get a great workout in. Each coach also brings his/her own style and expertise, so if you get a chance to work with all of them you get a great all-around experience. The Community: There is a great mix of people here- old and young, from elite athletes to day-one beginners. The common thread is everyone welcomes and encourages everyone else no matter what level they are at. Coming from another Crossfit gym, it would have been easy to feel like an outsider for a while. Not here. People were friendly, encouraging and immediately treated me like I was part of their gym. From the start I have made friends and look forward to talking to them before and after class as much as the actual workout! Countless Intangibles: In the short time I have been there they have renovated, added to their rig, and brought in multiple orders of equipment. This reinvestment in the gym shows- it is in GREAT shape. The gym is clean, equipment is organized, there are three clean showers (separate from the bathrooms) with towels and toiletries provided. There is always a community event to look forward to- from charity workouts/fundraisers to nutrition, weightlifting, or running challenges to pot-luck parties. There is a wide range of hours (including classes on Sunday) and I haven't seen anyone turned away from a class yet. Whether you are curious about trying Crossfit for the first time or maybe you are an experienced Crossfitter and are thinking about changing boxes, I am convinced Crossfit BIG is the right fit for everyone.

Before pregnancy I was encouraged, coached, pushed, and supported by the coaches. The coaches make classes feel like it's an individual experience even in a big group. They call people by their names and they are so knowledgable, and attentive, always keeping safety as a top priority. They encourage you to do what is best for you. When I got pregnant they came up with whatever workout worked for me, especially when I got bigger. Miguel and Brian, two of my favorite coaches, were ALWAYS checking on me. I loved how Miguel never treated me like the pregnant lady. He believed in my ability to finish workouts, in the meantime asking about my heart rate, correcting my positions and encouraging me. Because I used to go to the 5:30am class (before it got too popular), Miguel was the primary coach so I can't speak for ALL coaches, but I've had classes with them all and enjoyed all classes. Life is busy and I don't go as often as I'd like to, but I'm still enrolled because I love the classes and I enjoy working out there.

I came here and played basketball a few times and its always the same people. It can get a little rowdy and competitive at times so if that isn't your thing, this might not be the place for you. As for the staff they have always been helpful with any questions I had. If you plan on discontinuing your membership just remember to give someone a heads up at the front desk. You have to give them notice 15 days or something before your next billing cycle to get your paper work done and on time. Just wish they had more room and courts. Everything was fairly clean and machines worked.

Having gone to both CrossFit Boston and CrossFit Southie for 3 years, my standard is high since I think CFS has some of the top teachers in the entire city. Logan was on par with what I would hoped for an exceeded expectations. We did the Cindy work out and focused on the dead lift for the strength portion. I was impressed that their pricing is great, they have free parking, the space is clean + simple, AND they also do 5 dollar drops in on SAT and SUN to allow for those non crossfitters to still be a part of the community as needed and for an insanely decent price. I would also like to think this is a nice way to give back to the city of boston + the hyde park area since access to health/wellness/fitness i hard to come back for the less privileged populations. hats off to this box. i would totally join if i were not living in the south end however if i move to jp, i will be a part of it probably. yay! UPDATE: Have now taken a few more classes. Some further mulling:…read more 1. I missed the memo that you don't have to switch between rounds. Obviously most people do but you have the option of doing all 4 rounds of floor or all 4 rounds of treadmill. I was majorly confused when not everyone made the switch but apparently you can just stay at the same station the whole time. But anyway, you have the option of booking a Double Floor option if you don't want to do the treadmill. 2. There is a *vibe* here and frankly, it gets on my nerves. Not enough for me to stop going altogether but it is a huge pet peeve to see people on their phones during a round (not even during a break) and taking selfies/scrolling Instagram. You may say, "Joy, be a big girl and just ignore them." You'd be right but it is a) hugely distracting and b) disrespectful to the instructor. I get it, we're all addicted to our phones, but there's a diff between quickly checking your phone for an email versus being on IG for minutes at a time. 3. I do think some of the instructors could demo the moves more, rather than punt it to a random person and say, "Everyone, look at [NAME] and see what she does!" As it was, the transitions are so quick, I again copied what everyone was doing around me or ... just did my own thing. Which brings me to my next point. 4. A lot of the moves don't necessarily need to be done with the equipment that the instructors mention. In one of the classes, we did bicep curls with a band. I found it needlessly confusing and time-consuming to set up, so just did the same thing with a weight. Don't be afraid/too self-conscious to modify. 5. So far, my favorite instructor has been Harley, who teaches the Arms & Abs class on Monday evenings. His cues are super clear, he'll do the moves with the class, and he's very encouraging and kind. Great for beginners and regulars alike.

Because of this, my expectations were high and figured it would be similar to Orange Theory but better. I would like to preface that I honestly loathe running long distance though I will still do it to challenge myself. I had no idea what I was walking into other than the fact that there would be lots of running and that the classes alternate between treadmill running and floor exercises. The instructor was nice, however, most of the class I had a hard time understanding her due to the loud music and her voice just didn't sound clear with her mic. As others in the reviews have stated, they don't really walk you through the steps and really what's next. For treadmill run, jogging was done 5/6/7 and sprinting 7/8/9. At first, I have to admit I felt super intimidated because running is not my strong suit at all... but to my surprise, I held my own pretty well & it wasn't too bad. From this class experience, I do feel a little disappointed. I did not feel like the class was actually as challenging as I thought it would be or even how it's perceived on social media platforms. After class, I felt I could still go to another HIIT class, compared to when I had tried OrangeTheory once upon a time ago, my entire body was sore. The music playing during the working out was also not the best quality. I could barely hear the songs not due to the volume but because the speakers made the music sound muffled. Overall experience: 6.5/10

After spending COVID working out in my garage, I was missed having a community to keep me motivated in my workouts and 617 really delivered after I dropped in to check them out. I especially appreciate the programming at 617. Unlike other boxes that are geared towards advanced athletes, I find 617 to have a nice mix of movements with reps and weights that scale well across a broad spectrum of people. More emphasis on cardio as well. Other notes. It's easy to miss the building if you are visiting for the first time so look for the blue warehouse looking building sitting below the road. Also during busy classes, usually the morning ones, the parking lot can get quite busy and not fit enough cars. There is a lot in the park next door you can use and walk over.

However, as someone who's been to countless gyms in the past, what really makes or breaks a gym is its people - both the owners/management and the clientele. By this same token, what sets CrossFit 617 apart is its people. I had a chance to sit in on a class the following day - the sense of community and camaraderie between the instructors and clients was evident from the start. Everyone goes out of their way to make each other feel part of the family so to speak, and that goes a long way.
