And Dr. D., rather than having me put Walter up on the metal table where most dogs would more likely be nervous, he just sat down on the bench with us and chatted and casually did his exam. Such great bedside manner. At a former vet in San Diego, I would always sit on the floor with my dogs rather than putting them in a chair while waiting. The doctor would come in and then just sit down on the floor with us for the entire time. That was very cool too. We started to exit to the lobby out of one door, but there was a very angry German Shepherd barking loudly. So a sweet vet tech stopped us, brought us out a door on the opposite side of the lobby, then walked all the way to the front door with us, staying between the German Shepherd and us in case it got aggressive. That act of care and kindness was amazing.

We were unprepared and assumed the resort provided daycare but didn't find out after we rented all our gear and bought tickets. Searching for daycare led me to Christy at Home Sweet Home. We called Friday morning and she was able to take my daughter in on short notice. I wasn't worried when I met her and dropped her off as there were already 4 infants in her home. The sign on her door was reassuring that it wasn't a fly by night type of deal. All the toys inside made me feel even better. Of course her sweetness was felt by me and my daughter that she had no hesitation being there. When ee picked up she was so happy she raved about her day with Miss Christy ALL night. To my surprise my daughter asked to go back again then next!!! We were making plans to split up the day and get some last minute skiing in, but she begged to go back so I called Christy again and she was happy to take her. Of course when I picked her up she wasn't in a hurry to leave and was having so much fun she didn't even realize I was there. She gave Christy a big hug good bye and she was sad to learn we would be leaving her behind when we go back home. I can't say how pleased I am to be writing this because I know there are moms that could be as apprehensive as I was to drop off their kids with a stranger, but Christy is GREAT!!! I don't write a lot of reviews but this one is definitely worth the while.

On our last day, right before we left we drove by a shelter up, at Big Bear and I asked my spouse to please stop. I enjoy checking out shelters. Because you never know if you find that dog or cat that tells you to take you home. The perfect match. Therefore I have visited many shelters in the LA area. Many! When we walked in. There were 2 ladies. Very friendly. We were asked if they could help us and we replied we just would like to look at what animals they have. They said, right behind that door are the dogs and the next door are the cats. The next few minutes My spouse and I seriously thought we were in some sort of a gas chamber. ( As mentioned above. I've been to many animal shelters. And I know it can smell bad at times with feces. I can expect that). BUT this smell in this small room. I think there were only 8 cages (4 left and 4 right) with a small square hole for the dogs to get outside I guess( hope). In the first cage to the left were several puppies. Then a few large adult dogs. One smaller poodle-like dog. That smell was almost a harsh chemical smell mixed with the smell of feces. Umbareable to even stand it for a minute to take time to look at those poor animals. This stink was toxic. I have no idea what they did there. I have NEVER experienced this ever. Those poor dogs had to endure this. We rushed to the door where the cats were. In there it was fine. In the cat room, we try to figure out how to get back out of this place. We held our breath and hurried through the dog area and out of the building. I didn't even feltto bother to talk to them. We were so disgusted.
