Enrolled my very timid 6 year old and the changes I've seen in his behavior since beginning make me…read moreso happy . The instructors are attentive and they have many seminars and special days that make him enjoy his overall experience even more . I love that they have the option to throw birthday parties for the children , picnic days in the summer and camps on days when there isn't any school . They also give them honor student cards which help the kids earn rewards . I will say this place is on the more expensive side but it's a good investment in your child's confidence and learning to defend themselves .

Initially, I wrote an average/neutral review but after running into dozens of other local parents…read morewho have had negative experiences with Spirit and having a lackluster experience with them myself, I am going to leave a more transparent review including PRICING below. I am in sales AND a small business owner, so I generally give a lot of understanding to other small business owners but they have a bad rep locally and I'm just starting to see it's for a reason now. They have a lot of 5 star reviews because they used to push and pressure parents (during their kids' lessons) to leave a 5 star review to build up their ranking, but I highly encourage you to look into the 1-3 star reviews and more recent reviews. They require you to sign a year long contract that is $1,900 (perhaps more now) or you can pay in one lump sum and save a few hundred (and pay just under $1600). The free classes/passes and "specials" are literally to get you in and get you into a sales room and pressure you into the contract. Can't knock them as they're a business but just know, they run on high pressure sales tactics. I've been to other studios where the owners just give prices and allow you organically decide what package you want to sign up for and that's what myself and most people prefer. They are also getting kids in the door so they can push the birthday party packages as that's where the real money is made for them. I've attended parties there for my kids' friends and had a parent friend tell me they overcharged them, didn't deliver on multiple (expensive) upgrades as promised and were smug about offering any resolution. I hate that this seems to be a pattern for them. I believe the uniform was $140, boards at $3 each for days they do board breaking and belt tests are $70. Seems belt tests are given every 3-4 weeks so long as the child is on track. I've recently bumped into other parents at my kids' school who've said they got locked into 3 year contracts where they paid upfront or even $6,000-$10,000 contracts (with multiple kids) and I didn't even know that was legal to do. The craziest thing is I've even bumped into parents who had issues with them 5+ years ago.. same thing. The reason businesses like these are still around is because not enough parents speak up. Unfortunately, we were only able to use 35 of our 95 lessons and they were unwilling to work with us. I've attempted to give many chances for them to provide a resolution as a company but at this point I have to be honest, they are completely inflexible and pretty smug about it. I'm a small business owner. We CAN always work with our customers. They are 100% able to work with parents without losing any overhead/time, they just refuse to. OUTRIGHT. They'll keep the money & give you a nice "sir" or "ma'am" and basically "no can do" and expect you to spend thousands more. Now I'm seeing why so many reviews say they're money hungry. If you've had a poor experience, I encourage you to post about it, too, because these other parents are unknowingly being taken advantage of because they see an inflated business rating that has been masked by the other on-the-spot reviews.

I joined right after my trial lesson. Instructor Santiago has taught me so much about self defense. Instructor Leo has taught me that you are never too old to learn Tae Kwon Do. Lessons are expensive. I joined because the trial lesson was outstandingly fabulous. My first actuall lesson was very difficult. I wanted to quit and give up. Instructor Leo and Instructor Santiago said not to give up. Keep trying they said. Now I enjoy coming here to 81-15 Queens Blvd location. Give them a call and try the trial lesson. It is worth it to try

I am glad I have enrolled my son at UXMA of Elmhurst. My son started attending when he was 5 years…read moreold and has been with the school for a year now. I see positive improvements in his confidence, attentiveness, stamina and physical health. All of the instructors and staff have a tremendous amount of patience and professionalism toward him and the younger students. They take the time to train and demonstrate to the students how to properly do the form for each belt level and make the class fun. With the amazing team and supportive older students at UXMA my son has positive role models to look up to and made a lot of friendships along the way. They have provided him with motivation to go to practice everyday to learn his forms and sparring technique and to one day achieve his black belt. It is a great investment for the growth and development of my son and I highly recommend the school.
