One of the rudest business owners I've ever met…read more I brought in an L shaped window seat cushion and several matching pillows to be re-upholstered. Admittedly, I've never had anything re-upholstered before and so when he quoted me $33 per pillow, I balked, figuring I could buy an assortment of cute pillows from Bed, Bath, and Beyond/Target, etc. for less. However, the bench cushion definitely needed to be recovered. He quoted me $140 for that but seemed slighted as he did. When I inquired about looking at fabrics, he seemed put out, reached for a book to hand me but shook his head and said that he didn't have discount fabric. He went on to say that maybe I wasn't looking for a professional upholsterer. I assured him I wasn't looking for discount fabric and was fine with the quote for the bench cushion....I just wasn't willing to pay for the pillows. I said, "I've never done this before and had no idea what to expect." He said what he quoted was a very fair price and I told him I'm sure it was...but I wasn't willing to pay it. I can buy new pillows elsewhere for less. He then said the L cushion was technically $175 - he had been being kind by quoting $140. He said he has so much work, he can't afford to take business on a discount and that he was "trying to retire" so if I was going to haggle, maybe I didn't really want my items re-upholstered. Mind you, I never asked for a discount, I was fine with that the bench quote, I asked to look at fabrics, I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR THE PILLOWS. He said to me that "most people know what they want and are willing to pay to have it done professionally." He was so fired up, I ended up gathering my things and telling him he was painful to interact with - that it seemed I had offended him and so I would just leave. Even though it had taken me two trips to carry all my stuff in for evaluation, I was damned determined to make it out in one - thank goodness he got the door behind me. I left there and went to Custom Furniture Works on Manchester. They, too, quoted $140 for the L cushion but $40 each for the pillows. When I told them I was unlikely to do the pillows, they didn't mind one bit and just wrote up the paperwork for my bench cushion to be done. They also gave me some fabric books to take home so I could make my selection. As I was leaving, I told them about my experience with Jerry Garrett and they apologized for my experience and offered to do the pillows at the $33 price he quoted. Just the experience of dealing with reasonable, respectful, service oriented people makes me want to take them up on that offer. Per his card, Jerry might have 37 years' experience but he is far from professional.

Horrible experience. I used him because his quote was much cheaper than other place in the area and…read morehe sounded nice on the phone. He took about 1 month longer than he said he would, and when I called to check in on the chair 3 months after dropping it off he told me that he hadn't started working on it and that I can come pick it up if I am in a rush to get it back. I had already put down $140 of the $240 that he was charging me. When I finally picked up the chair he had it covered in thin plastic, I gave it a quick look and took it home. When I arrived home I realized that he changed the buttons, only put 2 in instead of 4, and they weren't even level. I immediately sent him photos, and asked him to make it right, but he ignored me over and over again. I would rather have it back with the stained vinyl than how it looks now. Also, I'm pretty sure the positive reviews on Facebook are family. Patrick

I inherited an ancestor's pressed oak rocking chair that I wanted to restore, which included…read moreremaking an arm that was lost somewhere along the way. Sheryl made all the arrangements for it through email so all I needed to do was drop it off. On the day of drop off, Jeff looked at it and seemed excited to see it restored, which impressed me and made me comfortable in my choice. He suggested adding a cushion but I wanted crewel needlework fabric like the original seat I remembered, which I assumed they wouldn't have. Jeff stated that he knew someone that might be able to help and made a phone call. Moments later, photos of fabrics were sent and I had a crewel pattern selected. So the estimate was adjusted to include a reupholstered seat with springs and seat foam. Approximately 8 weeks later, my rocker was ready and I'm delighted with the outcome. This rocker has been handed down through my family and will go on to my children and their children. It's an investment in our family history and the care Jeff's team took to restore it is admirable. It could have been "just another rocking chair" to them, but Jeff appreciates the historical significance of family heritage and the respect for furniture that has survived the Civil War era and beyond. I strongly recommend Jeff and his team to return your heirlooms to their days of glory.
