We needed a set of 4 MCM teak vintage dining chairs reupholstered after we had continued to use…read morethem all through COVID and beyond while the foam disintegrated and fell apart. They had been poorly DIY-upholestered by the previous owner and we used them that way for years and let them get into really bad shape. We were referred to Hugo by the staff at Green Shag, who recommended text message as the best way to get in touch as it's easier for English/Spanish translation and communication. I text Hugo a photo of the chairs and he sent me a quote and instructions on how much fabric would be needed the same day. Hugo provided the foam, and we dropped off the chairs and fabric on a Tuesday. The chairs were completed by Sunday. They are beautifully done and I felt that the cost was more than fair and a great value. We would definitely enlist Hugo's help again whenever we next have upholstery needs.

I had been looking for someone to make custom pillows from fabric I had ordered online. This proved…read moreto be more difficult than I anticipated. I tried a few other places before I found Hugo and either they were unresponsive or their timeline was too long. I searched Google and found a great review for Hugo. I texted him and he promptly texted back. I brought the fabric to him on a Weds and by Monday my pillows were done. To say he is fantastic is an understatement, he is also unfailingly honest. His prices are also unbeatable. I gave him extra because I felt he should have charged more. (I know, right? In this day and age!!!) Just great from beginning to end.

For upholstery they are great but for restoring furniture I was not so impressed. My furniture…read morepiece was a Baker red lacquered éclipse table. I have a matching one in black lacquer so when he said he would paint it black I thought he meant to match the other. A flat paint was used and no lacquer finish. I would not use him again for furniture restoration however I still am happy with my upholstery items.

But what bothered me is when he suggested that I find another upholstery shop to do the work, he couldn't recommend that might be ale to do the job. I'm sorry, but if you have been in business since 1941 and you can't think of the next best upholsterer in the area, there is another agenda that you are working with. Based on this interaction I could not and would not recommend this business to anyone.

We recently had 3 mid-century pieces recovered here. Tim and his team were incredibly easy to work…read morewith. He's friendly, honest and keeps his promises. He kept us in the loop about when he would get started and return our items and was genuinely interested in our satisfaction. Unlike another shop we called that couldn't even get to us for 3-4 months, this shop's lead time was only about a month. We already have our completed pieces back about two months before the other place could have started our project. He does make you buy fabric through him but having worked with an upholsterer before who let me source my own, I actually prefer Tim's method. Unless you're in the trade, you probably don't know how to judge whether you're picking something appropriate for your needs or not. Ordering through the shop, you know you're getting something these craftspeople are willing to stand behind. (Side note: He carries the same fabric line Joybird uses. I was able to match up several of my existing Joybird samples to his books and ended up using one of them on our project.) He will also pick up and deliver your pieces back home. There was one minor snafu when they were bringing one of the pieces into the house that resulted in some minor but very repairable damage. Tim brought his carpenter along with a bunch of tools to our house and fixed it on site. He clearly felt worse about this happening than we did. What matters most is that it was addressed in a timely fashion. It's nice to find someone in any trade who actually cares about doing good quality work. All of our pieces got new (and very needed) fabric, foam and padding. Two of the three got brand new legs and the carpenter had to add supports for them to the frames. The other piece got its original legs re-stained - which was badly needed. The shop retained original details as requested. When I am ready to have other pieces in my home done, I will gladly send them back here. My only "complaint" is that I'm still trying to adjust to my ratty old broken down furniture feeling so new. :)

Forty minutes later I arrive at the place and they were closed, even though their website says they are open on Thursdays. Turns out, this place is in a run down area of town that when you exit your vehicle, you definitely want to be aware of your surroundings. The store front was all dirty and dusty. Could hardly see thru the glass with all the dirt. Quite frankly, after seeing where they were located and the condition of their store front, I was kind of glad they were closed. What kind of business says they are open for business but actually they are not.

I inherited an ancestor's pressed oak rocking chair that I wanted to restore, which included…read moreremaking an arm that was lost somewhere along the way. Sheryl made all the arrangements for it through email so all I needed to do was drop it off. On the day of drop off, Jeff looked at it and seemed excited to see it restored, which impressed me and made me comfortable in my choice. He suggested adding a cushion but I wanted crewel needlework fabric like the original seat I remembered, which I assumed they wouldn't have. Jeff stated that he knew someone that might be able to help and made a phone call. Moments later, photos of fabrics were sent and I had a crewel pattern selected. So the estimate was adjusted to include a reupholstered seat with springs and seat foam. Approximately 8 weeks later, my rocker was ready and I'm delighted with the outcome. This rocker has been handed down through my family and will go on to my children and their children. It's an investment in our family history and the care Jeff's team took to restore it is admirable. It could have been "just another rocking chair" to them, but Jeff appreciates the historical significance of family heritage and the respect for furniture that has survived the Civil War era and beyond. I strongly recommend Jeff and his team to return your heirlooms to their days of glory.
