I've been doing my own taxes since TurboTax was developed by Michael Chipman of Chipsoft developed it in the late 1980s. I used the mainframe computer at University of Illinois at Chicago while I was being paid as a research assistant but that's what they get for not supervising their graduate students more carefully. I mean, what are graduate students but the backstories to evil scientists if nothing else? Anyway, things were fine taxwise for decades even as my taxes became more and more complex until last year when TurboTax, now owned by Intuit by the way, screwed up on my 8 jobs in two states filing...but maybe not. Illinois wants me to pay more on the non-resident taxes I paid them, but Wisconsin wants that money I paid Illinois PLUS two thousand more and yes, I was estimating my non-withheld income and paying that quarterly. So both state revenue departments threatening me I got referred to my late friend, neighbor, lawyer, and fellow Yelper Jason Cleereman to this bilingual accountant. In fact, it was the last advice Jason ever gave me. I want to point out that Jason never gave me bad advice, ever. Alacorn's modest office is commensurate with his reasonable rates, and both belie his high degree of competence and integrity. So, will I return to have this expert do my taxes for next year so I don't have to experience the worry and anxiety I've had this year? Let's ask the Magic 8 Ball. "Signs point to yes." Well there's no good reason I shouldn't, it's just I always prided myself in doing my own taxes, my father lost millions by trusting an accountant that embezzled from his retirement account, my late uncle Chula the accountant told me one can learn a lot about budgeting and household financing from doing one's own taxes and I can be really foolishly stubborn sometimes. But this Alacorn guy is good. read more
