Sorry I can not recommend Hugh Blocker CPA. Hugh is a really good guy and I think a knowledgable CPA BUT I have and several repeat non performance experiences. Most recently, I made an online appointment and prepaid the $300.00 for him to do our tax return. We met face to face on March 24th, had a very pleasant exchange of info and he said the returns would be ready the following Monday the 30th. On March 31st I called the office and asked if they were ready and the receptionist said she would get back to me and never did. On April 3rd I called again and she promised she would call me back and never did. Our return is pretty simple as we take the standard deduction. I had to get them done another way. Over 10 years ago I had the same experience but wanted to give him another chance. I really can't figure out why this is the case... Wasted my time and money and frustrated. Never again. read more

Glad I decided to give this business another chance. Hugh turned out to be a very nice guy: punctual, prompt, and professional. Just how I like to do business. I actually gave the business another try back in 2020. I originally planned to work with Jim again but found out he was no longer there. Hugh told me he would be happy to do my taxes instead, and I was amazed at how quickly we were done. My 2021 visit was no exception. My appointment was promptly at 6:30 pm and I was back in my car 25 minutes later. He took the time to answer all of my questions, explain everything to me in detail and send me, happily, on my way. I used them in a previous tax season (yes, this is a late review!) and had a good experience. My taxes are usually quite simple so I usually do them myself. But that year, after a parent died, I didn't understand how to account for the various incomes and TurboTax was asking me questions I couldn't even begin to answer. So, I called around to to find a local CPA. The woman on the phone was very nice and I told her my issues. The only reason I knocked off a star is because she couldn't (wouldn't?) give me a rate on the phone, which I found unsettling. But I made an appointment with Hugh anyway, because I was desperate and about the miss my extension deadline. Once there, thought, I felt much better. The staff and Hugh, were pleasant and courteous. The staff let me use their printer for the stuff I could print off at home. Hugh sat down with me and after some quick friendly banter, we were straight to work. It didn't take long because my taxes were still relatively simple. I thought the price was fair (although I had no idea what to expect), as I was paying for some peace of mind and a big ol' refund! He gave me a folder with all of my documents and printouts, and he filed my taxes right there. It was a relief for me. I will be returning to his services next year because again my taxes will be more difficult than usual. I will give an update sometime in 2024! read more

Been going to them for years and paying in taxes every year. First year I went to someone else and I'm getting a ton back. She said they never even included my donations. That's only one mistake they made (among many). They also never gave me any suggestions on how to change anything (like how we're filing). Go elsewhere. We didn't have a good experience with Hugh. We sent our info and documents around 40 days before the taxes' due date. We had a simple case, so it was enough time to file without any rush. We were assigned to Jessica, who was very helpful and did her job as expected. But things didn't go the same way at Hugh's end. Even though we answered every question and kept following up, the due day arrived, and our taxes were not filed. We had to go to his office to sit outside to pressure until the taxes were filed. We tried to talk directly to him to address some concerns, but he didn't receive us. This was our second year working with Hugh, even though the first year were some details that we didn't like. We gave him a second chance. Definitely, we are not coming back next year. And we do not recommend him at all. read more

Do not do business with Hugh Blocker accountant firm. The Office Manager is NASTY. This accountant company has misused my electronic signature on Efile. SO I deleted myself out electronically of E file (at hugh blocker firm) and hand wrote my signature on my tax forms and mailed my own tax forms in USPS. Hugh Blockers company is still misusing my Deleted out Efile signature to send to state of Maryland Tax Department forms I never signed. Hugh blocker is mailing a hard copy USPS in January to prepare your taxes. This form from hugh blocker that is mailed USPS has my entire social security number in it and date of birth in the forms that are mailed. I have a written statement from the front desk person that they will not mail this blank tax preparation forms anymore..... BUT STILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. All with my entire social security number and date of birth in it thru USPS. read more

Terrible. Dropped off tax papers. Left several messages over a two week period. Never could get a return phone call from a CPA. Missed my deadline which cost me thousands. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

Did not have a good experience with this company. I sent them my tax information in early February and have since made numerous (8 separate call) calls to check on status of returns. No one bothers to return my calls nor provides status of my returns when I call. Today is IRS tax day and still nothing from this company. Avoid! read more
