She always decorates them according to the season or coming holiday, which makes it even more fun. She has also added hot chocolate bombs, which are SO FUN! There are several flavors (peppermint, caramel, and Oreo; to name a few!). You can order through Facebook or email, but she also sells her items at Four Seasons Local Market (open Thursday-Saturday) and her shelves are always fully stocked with treats. I had spied this classic roadside stand almost too late as we whizzed by, and realized instantly that we must stop. The perfect last hurrah for a weekend road trip! I asked for the Blizzard-equivalent (Snowstorm? Arctic Freeze? Frosted Flurry? ?), and the girls were kind enough to accommodate my menu-improvisation of half M&Ms, half Spanish peanuts (aka "peanut M&M"). But I also figured that if I were eating unscheduled dessert, I may as well eat an unplanned lunch too, so I ordered a hot dog. I was leery, especially with the prep speed, but it came out big and plump and fresh-looking. Mmm, all-beef goodness. I wolfed down that wiener to get to my dessert, which might have been in danger of melting in the hot Jundiana sun. One of my biggest culinary pet peeves is soft-serve ice cream that comes out of the machine at about 31.8 degrees, so that as soon as it hits the cup, the edges begin to soupify. Not this stuff--it stayed firm and frozen until the very end. Sometimes it's the little things, man, but that sealed the four stars for me. Oh, and it tasted great. This outfit has mini-golf too. Mini golf, hot dogs, and ice cream! That's like my ideal birthday party right there. And I don't mean 12, either; I mean 32.

It's a pity (or a blessing) that so few gringos seem to know it exists. Indeed, even the few who have seen it seem ignorant that it has a lunch counter inside. And yet fewer know that it's any good. But after loving it since I first got here, and after hearing the constant ravings of students and friends alike about Tacos el Jarocho (a decent, Mexican hole-in-the-wall on Market Street), I had no choice but to round up two friends and conduct a taste test . Results were uniformly in favor of Voluntad de Dios. From the texture of the beef to the tastiness of the chorizo -- even the beauty of the presentation or the plumpness of the lime -- Voluntad won hands down. And though the taco de rez at Jarocho held it's own, the chorizo was hard, tasteless and truly reminiscent of cardboard. All three of us preferred all three tacos from Voluntad. Sure, Tacos el Jarocho deserves some credit for its proximity to Wabash and for making a stab at authentic Mexican street food in the heart of Crawfordsville. But if you want a Hoosier taco from a place that would hold its own in Chula Vista, Voluntad de Dios is the will of G-d.

Let me compare it with Taco Mesa, a restaurant similar in style and price point (and highly rated among yelpers) in Southern California. Quality--neck and neck. I've tried the pork, chicken, and steak in both places and I would say that Botanica beats Mesa in the steak category, in terms of juiciness and flavor. It's too close to call for the pork, with Mesa having a slight (very slight) edge over Botanica. Chicken-wise, both are comparable. Botanica puts its tacos on two tortillas (instead of one) and also offers plenty of fresh lime, onions, cilantro, and salsas (medium and hot). Price--both offer great tacos at around $2 apiece. Mesa has seafood tacos that run in the $4 range, plus a wider selection. But for what it does offer, Botanica gives a strong showing with quality menu items at great prices. Atmosphere--different settings. Botanica is a lunch counter in a small Mexican grocery, which gives it a cool, hidden feeling. Most people in town hadn't heard of this place, till my esteemed colleague Ethan H. tipped us off to it. Now it's a regular spot for many of us, and it's the main place I take people to for a quick and delicious lunch. There are only about 4 stools at the counter, and you're right next to the laundry detergent, but I don't mind, especially since you're also next to the fridge with a plentiful selection of drinks. All on all, I highly recommend Botanica. Great place for a good lunch, and you can do your grocery shopping on the same trip. Be sure to stock up on dry cinnamon sticks while you're there.

I said no. She tried to explain what a latte is to which I told her I know what a latte is. She pointed to the large coffee containers and said they have house blend and decaf right there. I said no, I want iced coffee. Again she looked very confused. She said she could give me a cup of ice and I just get whatever I wanted from those HOT coffee carafes. I just said nevermind and thanks and left. Waste of time and made it so I didn't have enough time to go elsewhere to get my coffee. Yes, what she suggested is technically iced coffee, however their regular brewed coffee is hot and would immediately melt any ice and water down my coffee. Also, regular brewed coffee is not strong enough to make a good iced coffee. Other coffee shops use a concentrate. Pretty poor experience at Jack's, which is a shame because they're basically the only donut shop in town and they have some decent donuts. More than likely won't be back.
