I'm not a religious person at all, but "God is in the details" and Dena is a miracle worker who doesn't skip a beat!!! From the amazingly soft sheets, the electric fireplace, the beautiful robes, the reusable water bottles, any toiletry kit you might need, a stocked kitchen with flashlights/bug spray/aloe vera/honey sticks for coffee/to-go cups, the best smelling shampoo, streaming tvs (which aren't even available in Manhattan hotels most of the time), and too much more!! I was just STUNNED at what an amazing oasis this was. The employees, and of course, Dena, were beyond nice and friendly, as well as the other guests. I went for a solo birthday weekend and had to take a mug/robe home with me! Dena even did a very nice and special gesture when she found out it was my birthday. I even extended my trip to stay longer. The history is rich, the facilities are updated and yet still have the necessary old charm, and the breakfasts are great. Injured myself on the race so my wife came to pick me up on day 2. She took me around 9:30pm to the property to collect my items when she noticed bugs. We were horrified but I was exhausted and injured. She took a picture, returned the keys and informed the proprietor that she had seen bugs and that it needed to be dealt with before the next guests. He was very defensive and unapologetic. She didn't even accuse him of bedbugs. Anyone else would have caused a scene. We later confirmed the bugs to be bedbugs (thank you google). We support small businesses and I didn't want to even write a negative review. Bed bugs apparently can happen to any property apparently (we are now experts unfortunately). We spent all of Sunday fogging the car I used with pesticide and boiling my clothes to kill any bed bugs/eggs. My wife called to request a refund today (booked through Expedia and they stated the owner declines any refund) the owner David denied and hung up. WOW. This owner has no principles. I feel terrible for the next guests who stayed in that room (the property was fully booked) we expected him to do the right thing. We will be notifying the local health department.

There is NOTHING in it: no hair dryer, no lotion, nothing, The breakfast was downright terrible: soggy, cold quiche and the cheapest Dollar General bread available. I skipped it entirely the second morning. There is only cheap Keurig coffee and Lipton tea bags, nothing of good quality, no caffeine free options other than bad decaf coffee. If you have lots of money and need a place to sleep, get a hotel. If you want charm, get a real inn. Honestly, I really disliked this place.

We had control of the AC unit and a nice private bathroom. They also had an incredible shared great room with a fireplace and kitchen/dining area, where breakfast was "serve yourself" the next morning. Natalie put together a really great spread, and we got to enjoy coffee and conversation at the dining table before we left. The whole experience was hospitable, unique, and so peaceful. Being under 2 hours from NYC, we will certainly be back when we need a getaway in the future. Absolutely no complaints.
