I definitely left today with a much better understanding of the core elements of everyday pistol usage and also what skills I need to work on to become more proficient. Definitely taking more classes when I can. Highly recommend to anyone at any level. Thanks again.

I recently attended the Westchester Firearms Safety 16 hour Course on March 15-16, 2025 to fulfill…read morethe NY requirement for CCW application and I can confidently say this was the best firearms training I have ever taken! Having held a CCW in multiple other states for 23 years and being a military veteran with significant prior firearms exposure, I have taken my fair share of training courses but none have matched the professionalism, depth, and structure of this one. Day 1: Firearms Safety The safety training was on point--thorough, clear, and structured in a way that catered to everyone, from first-time gun owners to experienced CCW holders. The instructors ensured that every single participant left with a full understanding of safe firearm handling. The multiple layers of safety reinforcement--classroom instruction, two separate mock firearm simulations with dummy guns, and live range training--ensured that no detail was overlooked. Day 2: Legal Instruction & Range Training The legal portion was exceptionally well-delivered. As a recent law school graduate, I was already familiar with firearms laws, but the way the instructors broke down complex legal concepts made it understandable for any layperson to grasp with confidence. The range training was perfectly structured, allowing for progressive learning--starting with drills and simulated exercises before firing 15 live rounds into targets. The instructors patiently guided each participant, ensuring they built confidence and proper technique, whether they were first-time shooters or seasoned carriers. Exceptional Instructors: True Professionals Instructor Joe Martini - Joe's extensive credentials speak for themselves, but his dedication to firearm safety and skill-building is what truly sets him apart. A true expert and highly trained instructor, Joe's knowledge and ability to teach at all skill levels made this course an exceptional experience. Instructor Sgt. Paul Conforti - With a background as a retired police officer and FBI/NRA-certified firearms instructor, Sgt. Conforti brought real-world experience and tactical analysis expertise to the class. His instruction was clear, no-nonsense, and incredibly valuable for anyone serious about responsible firearm ownership. Final Thoughts This course is a MUST (literally) for anyone looking to obtain a CCW or simply improve their firearm knowledge and safety. The professionalism, thoroughness, and real-world training scenarios provided far exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a new gun owner or a seasoned shooter, this course will make you better, safer, and more prepared. I highly recommend Westchester Firearms Safety Course to anyone serious about firearm safety and training!

In short, Ulster firearms is a clean and well-kept store, quality selection of AR-15's, handguns, a few self-defense shotguns, and whatever else you need to get your gun(s) squared away (and ammo of course). I had the pleasure of being helped by Ryan (the owner). I explained what I wanted my 1st AR-15 for and a couple of hours later (at least), I drove home with my new rifle. Ryan is not your quintessential salesman, at no time did I feel pressured, all my questions (and then some) were thoroughly answered. He could have easily sent me home with at least $500 in functional accessories for my rifle; but instead of upselling me, he encouraged me to become familiar with my rifle in its more basic state and then come back for add ons with a more experienced/educated perspective. I like to learn, and the more relevant information I can acquire the better, and Ryal delivered. After spending at least two hours with Ryan, I honestly feel that if I walked out of there without making a purchase, he wouldn't have given me any attitude. He was genuinely happy to share his knowledge and what the shop had to offer, no strings attached. I'll be back again, soon.

I've been a shooter since I was 16, a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth and gas was .75 cents a gallon. Since starting my LE career back in 1985, ...I've been visiting a range of one sort or another every week and shooting every type of pistol and rifle, from muskets to fully-auto carbines from NY to Florida. Needless to say, I've done a lot of shooting over the years. Since my retirement, it's been hard to continue shooting because of the many, many restrictive ranges in NYS with oppressive, unnecessary and unfriendly regulations/rules on the different aspects of firearm usage on/at the range. I'm NOT talking about the safety stuff! I also happen to be a certified NRA tactical rifle instructor and a certified NRA range safety officer, so my beef is usually with some of the more ridiculous type of rules like one shot at a time from a semi-auto pistol. Magazine restrictions regardless of legally being allowed to use, own and operate high cap mags, the NO use of 'Bad-guy' targets... etc. Since retiring in '09 I've had my 'balls broken' by some 'range soup Nazis' even when shooting with my two active duty LE sons, one of which was in a Tactical Federal Unit at the time. So to be screamed at by some guy because you fired more than five shots from a 15 round mag ...at an empty range, or having the audacity to use a 'hostage target' to hone your reaction and control skills with a hand gun, ...that my friends is quite demeaning and very unpleasant. So I can't tell you how happy I was in taking the advice of a Port Authority firearms instructor buddy of mine when he directed me to Master Class. Master Class is just that ..."Master Class!". I found the people/owner to be an extremely friendly, knowledgable and very helpful men. The range was ABSOLUTELY safe, while still being enjoyable. My old platoon commander and I have made it a point to visit Master Class at least twice a month now before heading out for lunch. Nothing is more enjoyable for two X-LE officers than shooting some targets, enjoying a safe, friendly, and professional environment before heading out to some vittles. I HIGHLY recommend Master Class Shooters indoor range.
