I should point out that these farmer's markets are situated on various days at a variety of locales…read morethroughout western Sullivan County during the summer. All offer a variety of fresh goods. This is one of the better ones in terms of size and variety. (The one in Jeffersonville is probably the worst when it comes to both criteria; Callicoon, on Sunday, and this one are the best.) It is located in Liberty village on Friday afternoons, and thus is very well-patronized by second-home-owners stopping in after a drive from the city. The prices tend to be steep, which is why I can't work up more enthusiasm in terms of stars. As another reviewer pointed out, $4 for blueberries is a little ridiculous, and in fact is what you'd pay at the priciest gourmet store in the city. Frankly that's a beef that I have with farmer's markets generally. Yes, you buy direct from the farmer, which excludes the middleman and results in fresher produce. But the resultant savings are rarely passed on to the consumer. Thus my enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that the wares at these markets are not very good values. Frankly for cheese you'd do better in some of the specialty stores in New York City. Vegetables and fruit of equal or nearly equal quality can be purchased at ShopRite down the road. True, it's not "right off the farm," but the difference in quality is not justified by the massive difference in price. Credit cards are not accepted, unlike the supermarkets, and, again, that savings is not shared with the customer. Time for the farmers in these markets to realize that their patrons are not all "rich New York millionaires," and to make their prices more reasonable.

Great Selection, tons of local farmers offering, artisnal/organic cheeses, prepared foods, breads…read more(Flour Power), Ice Cream -- Basil Ice Cream!! (Early Bird Cookery) Really cool vibe, some prices are a little high ($4 per quart of blueberries) and some are a little ridiculous ($7 for a cup of salsa!)
