We learned so much from just one assessment session! We'll definitely be going back to take more classes with our pup.

Highly recommend Hudson Barks and Jennifer. From making appointment to the actual training session, we never felt pushed or pressured. Jennifer is very patient and knowledgeable. We are able to see results just after one session! read more

Jennifer and Hudson Barks are the best. I had the best experience training my pup Yoshi. I looked forward to every session we had and immediately started seeing improvements in Yoshi's behavior. I was getting frustrated with Yoshi jumping on strangers and guests and pulling on the leash. Jennifer taught me so many different techniques and how to use food and training treats effectively she also sent comprehensive reports and recommendations. I cant thank her enough! My pup and I have grown closer and his behavior has dramatically improved. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Hudson Barks! At the onset of the engagement, one of the first things Jennifer asked me was what I envision my dog being in a few years. Based on my response she was able to tailor a specific program for my Kira that works for my busy lifestyle. Jennifer's approach is methodical and very scientific. This allowed me to apply the concepts beyond the lessons within each session. The post-class feedback she sends me is so comprehensive and extremely helpful to review in between our lessons. Jennifer is truly is a miracle worker. Within just 3 sessions, I've seen a significant improvement in my puppy's behavior. I am now a loyal Hudson Barks fan. To all busy pet parents who may be overwhelmed, go with Hudson Barks! They are worth every penny!!! read more

Highly recommended! Stumbled upon Hudson Barks by chance online, but very fortunate to have done so. Reached out and promptly received a call from Jennifer. Was looking to setup an initial puppy session, but she also provided a lot of helpful tips as we prepared to pick up our puppy on the coming weekend. We ended up deciding to have Jennifer come by on the same day we picked up our puppy, Coachella... best decision we could have made! Jennifer arrived and got right to work, helping us introduce the crate and begin to build strong habits within hours of Coachella's arrival. Not sure where we would have been without her consultation, but we were a few days in and doing very well with Jennifer's guidance! We have continued to work with Hudson Barks since we brought our pup home(she is now 9 months). She started with two puppy visits per day and graduated to one 30 min walk per day. Extremely reliable and great communication with daily updates! read more

We recommend Hudson Barks with enthusiasm! If you are getting a puppy, this should be your home base for training. We tried a few different trainers in the area and none really stuck for us. Finding Hudson Barks and the puppy pre-teen obedience class with Rebecca was the best thing to happen to our dog and us as owners - we learned the skills we need to support our dog as he grows in a positive and casual environment. The class was small, so plenty of one on one time and through it, exposed our dog to a variety of situations using strategies you can only master with with a professional's guidance. We enjoyed the class so much, we signed up for private lessons in our home which has also paid dividends. I wish we used Hudson Barks from day one - thank you Rebecca and team! read more

Tracy worked with us and our dog several times and was a pleasure to have as a guide. She was honest and super supportive of our training journey. Was always available for communication, came with a lot of things for us to try and followed up with detailed, personalized recaps. We were also so appreciative that she "met us where we were at", in our training and emotional journey. As new dog owners, there was a lot to navigate, and Tracy was an amazing professional to have along the way. Would definitely recommend Tracy, with full enthusiasm. Without Ashely, I don't know how we would have survived with our new puppy. She was able to come to us the day we got him work on training him, but also teach us what to do (and, more importantly, what not to do!). Our pup loves Ashley and quickly picked up everything she taught him. We have had 3 lessons so far and they are worth every penny. Not only is she clear during the lessons, but she follows up with detailed emails and videos to help us remember what to work on. Ashely is extremely knowledgeable about all things related to your pet and is willing to text us help in between lessons. We truly couldn't have asked for a better person to work with! As an added bonus, Ashley setup a puppy play date to help socialize the puppies she is working with. read more

I signed up for a teen/adolescent group class with Jennifer and it was great. She was patient and so helpful. The class size was perfect. My dog and I are still working on his manners, but I was glad to get some help from Hudson Barks. I would definitely recommend! read more

Hudson Barks is the best! We've been walking with Nico and Jennifer for about 6 months now and have had the best experience. They are super responsive and take great care of Troy when they're walking him/getting him situated at home post-walks. Nico also provides the BEST pupdates after every walk with professional looking portraits that always brighten up our day. I would recommend Hudson Barks to any one. read more

I would highly recommend Hudson Barks for boarding. I boarded my 3 yr old Morkie 'Milo' with Hudson Barks during my my 4 day road trip. Jennifer came to our apt the day before to meet Milo and got to know more about his personality. I loved the fact that Jennifer cared to get to know Milo before his stay. Milo stayed with Hudson Barks for 3 1/2 days. It was super convenient as Jennifer picked him and dropped him home after our arrival. I was updated daily with photos and his activity. Milo came home after his stay at Hudson Barks a very happy little dog. To my surprise he seemed more calm. Jennifer followed up via text messages after she returned Milo and even recommended some discipline tips. Hudson Barks will be Milo's new home away from home whenever we travel in the future. read more

I love them as dog walkers and trainers! I have done various individual classes and have done the puppy socialization class. I regret not doing the teenage class but will eventually do the therapy dog sessions. Jen really cares about your dog and all her staff is top notch. My dog Nellie also loves them. They give her a full 30 minute walk and have made her a hit in my neighborhood! I'd give them ten stars if possible. read more

We adopted an adorable 5 Year old Basset Hound mix, Bernie. She was extremely calm but a little nervous when we brought her home. Jennifer came to our house twice to evaluate and train. She did a fantastic job!!!! She was extremely patient with Bernie and tailored the training to meet our and Bernie's needs. Bernie made remarkable progress in two sessions. Jennifer did not recommend any further training but made it clear I could call her anytime if I had questions. I would highly recommend Hudson Barks !! read more

3 months ago I started fostering a beagle through Beagle Freedom Project . Liberty spent three years of her life in a cage being used for testing :(. She never saw the sun, walked on a leash , received human affection . Although Liberty is a total lovebug , her leash walking was horrible . Each walk we went on lasted an hour . Then I would carry her home because she wouldn't walk . Jen came in a taught us techniques. She gave us a detail summary and was with us every step of the way . After the first training session Liberty has already made great strides !!!! She even gave us great pointers on how to have our dog (Minnie ) adjust well to her new sister . I'm excited to see the changes in Liberty and Minnie everyday and excited to continue my training with Jen . It's nice to know she is always an email away :) Run don't walk to your phone !!! I can not say enough great things about Hudson Barks. They have been walking my sweet pug Bruiser for almost a year now. I am moving out of Weehawken and have no choice but to find another dog walker for my pug. Jenn and her team have been outstanding. I always knew my little guy was very well taken care of with Hudson barks. Fallon was also great in taking care of my pug and making sure all his needs were met. Jenn truly loves what she does and shows true compassion for the pets. I highly recommend this company. You will be glad you chose Hudson barks to take of your furry friends. Thanks Jenn for taking such great care of Bruiser! He will miss Hudson barks! read more

As all of the previous reviews have indicated, Hudson Barks is a very professional and knowledgeable organization. In fact, when we booked with them, we didn't even anticipate the amazing level of service and training we received from Jen and Ashley. To top it off, they are both really kindhearted and caring people and it really shows in their work. Jen and Ashley came to our apartment in Jersey City on a Saturday morning for an introductory training session with our two small mixed breed dogs (2.5 years old and 5 months old). Jen and Ashley worked tirelessly to discover the main issues with our dogs including training, nervousness, and acclimating to their new environment. Having just moved from the suburbs to JC, our resident pup (2.5 yrs) and new pup (5 mo) are scared any time we take them on walks and they see other dogs or people, or hear loud noises. Jen and Ashley went outside on a guided walk with us to give us specific techniques for how to handle our dogs when they become nervous and anxious. They also showed us how to properly handle them with the harnesses. During our session indoors, they analyzed our puppy's crate space and gave us tips for optimal setup. Jen and Ashley also each worked with one of our dogs to teach them how to sit and lay, and not jump on people when they come in the door, and taught us how to continue to reinforce the behavior. The training session was especially helpful because Jen and Ashley are extremely knowledgeable and experienced in doggie psychology, so we were able to understand why our dogs act the way they do and how to provide positive reinforcement for the behaviors we do or don't want them to exhibit. Most surprisingly, and to our joy, Jen and Ashley provided a follow up guide to our session in the form of a PDF. The PDF included specific guidance and takeaways from our session, including videos and more research of what to and what not to do when training our dogs. Team Hudson Barks all the way - go no where else!!!!! We are looking forward to using their training (and boarding) services in the future. read more

This review is long overdue but I wanted to make sure I gave Hudson Bark the credit they deserve. Back in January I fostered an 70+ lb older Pit Bull that was part of an active legal case, so there were many restrictions and procedures to follow. I reached out to numerous dog walking companies, all of them either never responding or saying they weren't able to assist for my specific circumstances. I even had one walker say he wasn't comfortable walking a pit bull! Jennifer replied to me within hours of sending the request and after I explained the situation, she was more than willing to help. It was a huge relief knowing she was an experienced dog trainer and had no stereotypes or prejudices against pitties. She gave helpful advice on his walk equipment as well as for easing some of his anxiety with being left alone. Their online system for payment and scheduling was user friendly and efficient. She was always prompt in her replies and thoroughly explained everything as we went along the process. They signed all of the necessary acknowledgments and paperwork agreeing to maintain confidentiality with the investigation. Nicolas (Nico) was our assigned walker and an absolute gem. He was immediately comfortable with my foster during the meet and greet and overall very friendly. His daily notes were always punctual and so kindly written with beautiful photos. I can't even describe how much of a relief it was getting those notes, knowing my foster was safe and enjoying himself while I was at work. We were trying numerous behavioral modifications over the course of his time with us, and Nico was always flexible with any housing or enrichment changes. Prior to starting the walks, I asked if they would be ok with me setting a baby cam up so I could watch him while in his crate and they 100% encouraged it, which was nice that they weren't defensive or uncomfortable with that. I would see my foster get so excited for Nico to put on his winter coat or give him his peanut butter bone, and I looked forward to it every day. I ended up having issues with my landlord (breed discrimination at its finest) and had to bring my foster back after 1 month, to which Jennifer and Nico were so sad knowing they had to say goodbye. Even in the month I had him, I knew he and Nico truly bonded. My foster was in the shelter I work at for over a year pending a cruelty case, and I desperately wanted to give him a break but knew I couldn't do it without a walker. Without Nico and Jennifer, I would not have been able to give my foster the chance to finally learn what it's like to live in a safe, loving home. He has since been adopted into a forever home and his time with me allowed him to shine his best qualities. I couldn't be more grateful to have had Hudson Barks for the short amount of time we did, and I know my foster would say the same if he could. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about Hudson Barks. I spent a long time trying to find a good trainer in advance of my puppy even coming home because I knew I was going to struggle with this process. Ashley has been working with my puppy and more importantly me for the past week. I'm genuinely impressed with her level of knowledge and process. I knew she would teach me about positive reinforcement, marking behaviors with commands and treats, and doing things with consistency but she's teaching me so much more about how dogs think and act and why they do the things they do. In addition to the puppy training pieces she has been available above and beyond our scheduled sessions and supporting me via email. I have had a none stop battery of questions daily and she has been there for me every step of the way. There is work for you as the dog owner and handler to do but working with Hudson Barks is giving me the confidence and tools to actually get through the process and see results. read more

**Long review because this company deserves one: We cannot say enough good things about Jen and Hudson Barks ("HB"). It only took one consult with Jen for us to realize that Jen and HB are different. Jen has an endless depth of knowledge about dog training that she is eager to share. Like others have said in similar reviews, Jen's approach to training is predicated on positive reinforcement and compassion. Her approach to educating dog owners is the same; she is very patient and is eager to teach insightful tips to both first time dog owners like myself, and experienced ones, like my wife. HB is all about education. They provide an extensive summary after your training sessions, and provide follow up videos and other tips so that you can continue to train your dog after a training session. Although I recognize that every puppy is different and each training session can lead to different results, Jen's impact on our puppy's behavior was immediate. Jen came to our apartment to meet Riley, our 9 week old f1b mini Goldendoodle. It only took that one meeting for us to see a change in Riley's behavior. For example, Riley had been generally good with her potty-training, but she occasionally made a few mistakes, specifically on our carpet. Jen immediately noticed the carpet and instructed us to get rid of the carpet and to place a few more pee-pads out in our apartment. Like magic, since taking Jen's advice and removing the carpet, Riley has not had any accidents to date. If one meeting with Jen led to this type of result, we can only imagine what a few more meetings can potentially lead to. read more

I went to Jennifer at Hudson Barks for help with walking my dog. I have some certification in dog training, so I was frustrated that I could not work with my own dog the way I did with other dogs. Jennifer was able to quickly identify what I was doing wrong with my form and non-verbal communication, as well as suggesting the use of different equipment. End result - my dog walks beautifully - the change was instant and I couldn't be happier. One session - to the point with professionalism and insight. Thank you so much Hudson Barks! They really came through for me - and I look forward to working with them further! read more

If it wasn't for Jen and her amazing team (special thanks to Sophie) I would not be able to be a dog parent. Living apart from family as a working-dog-mom I had no one to help me but still had the dream of having a dog. Jennifer helped with everything since the set up, the best toys and the amazing puppy training. You can see her love and care for the dogs and her friendship and respect for their parents. I could not be more satisfied for almost 2 years of service including training, walks and boardings when I needed to travel. I had always piece of mind knowing she would take good care of my precious furry baby! read more

" I am a Certified dog walker, and owner of two amazing and loving dogs. A pit bull and a 16 year old maltese teacup. I have had my dogs since they were puppies and I have hired trainers in the past. For a long time I have contemplated going to school to become a dog trainer but I wasn't convinced based on observations from other trainers. I came across Jennifer's website and I was impressed by her background, canine education, experience and philosophy. It took only two sessions with Jennifer -To see her positive approach toward me and my dogs. She gave me information regarding positive reinforcement, explained the barriers to using dominance. She worked with my Pit in the outdoors to help me manage some re-activity and showed me how to relax the leash and allow my dog to re focus attention to me. I had already done some research and so it was ideal to see first hand how the steps worked in real life scenarios. Not only did Jennifer put me on the right path with my dog, but I am convinced to pursue my passion for Dog training. I can't wait to start my education and help others." Vee read more

Hudson Barks provides a great service. Jennifer and Ashley are true professionals. They only use positive reinforcement training and their own incredible levels of patience to train dogs. Both Jennifer and Ashley have gone above and beyond. We got our puppy in February, and quickly realized things were not going to be as easy as we thought. We were fortunate enough to contact Hudson Barks early on for training. Our pup has used a number of Hudson Barks services for training: individual lessons, puppy kindergarten and teenage dog obedience school. I recommend hiring Hudson Barks for at least one individual lesson as soon as you get your new dog/puppy before signing up for classes. Hudson Barks provides very detailed write-ups after each individual session and these will help identify the dog's issues as well as what your priorities are with the dog's training. If your new pooch is a puppy, puppy kindergarten is not only a lot of fun for both you and your new best friend, its also a place where your pup will learn lifelong lessons (like being able to share food, learn how to play with dogs of all sizes, and build confidence). Obedience school is much more serious and I think more for you then the dog in that the owners of the dog are basically taught training techniques that should be practiced at home every day (can't emphasize the every day part enough). The classes are kept small and since there are two instructors your dog never lacks for attention. We also recently hired Hudson Barks to walk our dog a few times a week. I highly recommend this service as well. They make an effort to match up the dog walker's style with your dog's personality. Our puppy is so happy on days she gets walked by Hudson Barks, and my evenings are a lot more relaxing because she has had a good midday workout. The prices are reasonable even if you only need the service 1-2X per week. They have packages and the more walks you get per week the prices get discounted. In short, my puppy has been transformed from a typical whacky, jumpy puppy into a dog you can sit with at a sidewalk cafe, have a beer and a bite to eat and almost forget she is there! read more

I am so grateful for the training my dogs and I received from Hudson Barks. Jennifer and Melissa clearly have a strong knowledge of dog training & behavior. When we first got our puppy in August, we scoured the internet for training materials to get us up to speed. After the first week, we knew we needed to consult a professional and we were so so lucky to find Hudson Barks! We first did a couple private trainings with Jennifer, (who is absolutely amazing), and we were finally able to get into a groove. I was pretty shocked after the first training at how well my pup responded. She made sure to tell us what to correct but also assured us that this is a process and that if we put the work in, everything will turn out great in the long run. In addition to the private trainings, we've also done the pre-k, puppy socials as well as the puppy camp (Which I highly recommend). The puppy socials really helped our pup learn how to be around pups in a safe and secure environment. It was important to socialize her and during the pandemic this was the best option for us. Now our pup LOVES being around other dogs and just wants to make friend and play! During our time at Hudson Barks, we learned how to walk our dog, basic commands, address any behavioural/emotional issues....and generally speaking, learn how to give the best home for our pup. The puppy camp was great, as our pup was in a class with 1-2 other puppies, and spent most of the day, learning how to walk, handle agility, guidance, and had a set schedule for downtime/feeding/walking, etc. Jennifer also provided detailed notes and videos for us to review and apply to help better train our dog. Overall, our experience at Hudson Barks has been a really great one. Our pup is now 8 months, fully trained, and a just a wonderful addition to our family. Had it not been for Jennifer's guidance, training, and overall love for our pup we wouldn't be where we are today. I really owe it to her and her team for helping us on our journey. I plan to utilize more of their services as they become available. Amazing, professional, SUPER friendly, and most importantly, they REALLY REALLY care for your dog. You know they have a passion for what they do when your dog's tail is wagging the moment they know they are nearing the Hudson Barks school. read more

We've worked with a number of dog walking companies in the Hudson County area through a few moves and have been most impressed with Hudson Barks. The owner, Jennifer, is very responsive and always communicative of any schedule or other changes. She also makes a point to meet with each family before services start. The dog walking app provides great photos and updates each day and let's me know that my pup is doing great! :) Unlike other companies, we've had the same dog walker for our entire time with Hudson Barks - there seems to be less turnover and happier pups! Highly recommend. read more

We were amazed at how our 14-week old rambunctious puppy responded to the session. While, we ("the parents') were getting educated in the dining room, the other half of the team was with our dog. She was 100% concentrated and engaged and about twenty minutes in started looking like a police dog. She will need more work, but after just one session, she is doing much better being left by herself. She is very good with the sit command and pretty good at stay. We'll work on nipping and leash-walking going forward... read more

Hudson Barks is absolutely fantastic. They were an enormous help in training Toby, my 8 week old puppy. When I first got him, I literally couldn't leave his side. Every time I walked more than 5 feet away from him, he would start whining and shaking his pen with his teeth. It was obvious that he was developing separation anxiety. I quickly contacted Hudson Barks and they came over almost immediately to help. Toby had three private training sessions with Jennifer and Ashley. They provided great advice and training tips to ease his anxiety and also worked with him on obedience training. Toby also attended Puppy Preschool on Sundays. This gave him the opportunity to interact and socialize with other puppies. He absolutely LOVED puppy preschool and didn't want it to end. In addition to providing wonderful training, Hudson Barks walked my puppy twice a day while I was at work. Our walker, Sophy, was extremely reliable and did a fantastic job walking Toby. Toby had lots of fun with her. If you need a dog trainer and/or a dog walker, I enthusiastically recommend Hudson Barks. Sadly, Toby and I moved to NYC and am no longer able to use the services of Hudson Barks (due to the distance). Of course, if we were ever to move back, we would use them again in a heartbeat. read more
