Was looking to setup an initial puppy session, but she also provided a lot of helpful tips as we prepared to pick up our puppy on the coming weekend. Without Ashely, I don't know how we would have survived with our new puppy. She was able to come to us the day we got him work on training him, but also teach us what to do (and, more importantly, what not to do!). Our pup loves Ashley and quickly picked up everything she taught him. We have had 3 lessons so far and they are worth every penny. I would highly recommend Hudson Barks for boarding. I boarded my 3 yr old Morkie 'Milo' with Hudson Barks during my my 4 day road trip. Jennifer came to our apt the day before to meet Milo and got to know more about his personality. I loved the fact that Jennifer cared to get to know Milo before his stay. Milo stayed with Hudson Barks for 3 1/2 days. It was super convenient as Jennifer picked him and dropped him home after our arrival. I was updated daily with photos and his activity. 3 months ago I started fostering a beagle through Beagle Freedom Project . Liberty spent three years of her life in a cage being used for testing :(. She never saw the sun, walked on a leash , received human affection . Although Liberty is a total lovebug , her leash walking was horrible . Each walk we went on lasted an hour . Then I would carry her home because she wouldn't walk . Jen came in a taught us techniques. She gave us a detail summary and was with us every step of the way . After the first training session Liberty has already made great strides !!!! She even gave us great pointers on how to have our dog (Minnie ) adjust well to her new sister . As all of the previous reviews have indicated, Hudson Barks is a very professional and knowledgeable organization. In fact, when we booked with them, we didn't even anticipate the amazing level of service and training we received from Jen and Ashley. To top it off, they are both really kindhearted and caring people and it really shows in their work. Jen and Ashley came to our apartment in Jersey City on a Saturday morning for an introductory training session with our two small mixed breed dogs (2.5 years old and 5 months old). Jen and Ashley worked tirelessly to discover the main issues with our dogs including training, nervousness, and acclimating to their new environment. Having just moved from the suburbs to JC, our resident pup (2.5 yrs) and new pup (5 mo) are scared any time we take them on walks and they see other dogs or people, or hear loud noises. Jen and Ashley went outside on a guided walk with us to give us specific techniques for how to handle our dogs when they become nervous and anxious. They also showed us how to properly handle them with the harnesses. During our session indoors, they analyzed our puppy's crate space and gave us tips for optimal setup. Jen and Ashley also each worked with one of our dogs to teach them how to sit and lay, and not jump on people when they come in the door, and taught us how to continue to reinforce the behavior. The training session was especially helpful because Jen and Ashley are extremely knowledgeable and experienced in doggie psychology, so we were able to understand why our dogs act the way they do and how to provide positive reinforcement for the behaviors we do or don't want them to exhibit. Most surprisingly, and to our joy, Jen and Ashley provided a follow up guide to our session in the form of a PDF. The PDF included specific guidance and takeaways from our session, including videos and more research of what to and what not to do when training our dogs. This review is long overdue but I wanted to make sure I gave Hudson Bark the credit they deserve. Back in January I fostered an 70+ lb older Pit Bull that was part of an active legal case, so there were many restrictions and procedures to follow. I reached out to numerous dog walking companies, all of them either never responding or saying they weren't able to assist for my specific circumstances. I even had one walker say he wasn't comfortable walking a pit bull! Jennifer replied to me within hours of sending the request and after I explained the situation, she was more than willing to help. It was a huge relief knowing she was an experienced dog trainer and had no stereotypes or prejudices against pitties. She gave helpful advice on his walk equipment as well as for easing some of his anxiety with being left alone. Their online system for payment and scheduling was user friendly and efficient. She was always prompt in her replies and thoroughly explained everything as we went along the process. They signed all of the necessary acknowledgments and paperwork agreeing to maintain confidentiality with the investigation. Nicolas (Nico) was our assigned walker and an absolute gem. He was immediately comfortable with my foster during the meet and greet and overall very friendly. His daily notes were always punctual and so kindly written with beautiful photos. I can't even describe how much of a relief it was getting those notes, knowing my foster was safe and enjoying himself while I was at work. We were trying numerous behavioral modifications over the course of his time with us, and Nico was always flexible with any housing or enrichment changes. Prior to starting the walks, I asked if they would be ok with me setting a baby cam up so I could watch him while in his crate and they 100% encouraged it, which was nice that they weren't defensive or uncomfortable with that. I would see my foster get so excited for Nico to put on his winter coat or give him his peanut butter bone, and I looked forward to it every day. I ended up having issues with my landlord (breed discrimination at its finest) and had to bring my foster back after 1 month, to which Jennifer and Nico were so sad knowing they had to say goodbye. Even in the month I had him, I knew he and Nico truly bonded. My foster was in the shelter I work at for over a year pending a cruelty case, and I desperately wanted to give him a break but knew I couldn't do it without a walker. Without Nico and Jennifer, I would not have been able to give my foster the chance to finally learn what it's like to live in a safe, loving home. He has since been adopted into a forever home and his time with me allowed him to shine his best qualities. I couldn't be more grateful to have had Hudson Barks for the short amount of time we did, and I know my foster would say the same if he could. read more

I spent a long time trying to find a good trainer in advance of my puppy even coming home because I knew I was going to struggle with this process. Ashley has been working with my puppy and more importantly me for the past week. I'm genuinely impressed with her level of knowledge and process. I knew she would teach me about positive reinforcement, marking behaviors with commands and treats, and doing things with consistency but she's teaching me so much more about how dogs think and act and why they do the things they do. In addition to the puppy training pieces she has been available above and beyond our scheduled sessions and supporting me via email. **Long review because this company deserves one: We cannot say enough good things about Jen and Hudson Barks ("HB"). It only took one consult with Jen for us to realize that Jen and HB are different. Jen has an endless depth of knowledge about dog training that she is eager to share. Like others have said in similar reviews, Jen's approach to training is predicated on positive reinforcement and compassion. Her approach to educating dog owners is the same; she is very patient and is eager to teach insightful tips to both first time dog owners like myself, and experienced ones, like my wife. HB is all about education. They provide an extensive summary after your training sessions, and provide follow up videos and other tips so that you can continue to train your dog after a training session. Although I recognize that every puppy is different and each training session can lead to different results, Jen's impact on our puppy's behavior was immediate. Jen came to our apartment to meet Riley, our 9 week old f1b mini Goldendoodle. It only took that one meeting for us to see a change in Riley's behavior. For example, Riley had been generally good with her potty-training, but she occasionally made a few mistakes, specifically on our carpet. Jen immediately noticed the carpet and instructed us to get rid of the carpet and to place a few more pee-pads out in our apartment. Like magic, since taking Jen's advice and removing the carpet, Riley has not had any accidents to date. Hudson Barks provides a great service. Jennifer and Ashley are true professionals. They only use positive reinforcement training and their own incredible levels of patience to train dogs. Both Jennifer and Ashley have gone above and beyond. We got our puppy in February, and quickly realized things were not going to be as easy as we thought. We were fortunate enough to contact Hudson Barks early on for training. Our pup has used a number of Hudson Barks services for training: individual lessons, puppy kindergarten and teenage dog obedience school. I recommend hiring Hudson Barks for at least one individual lesson as soon as you get your new dog/puppy before signing up for classes. Hudson Barks provides very detailed write-ups after each individual session and these will help identify the dog's issues as well as what your priorities are with the dog's training. If your new pooch is a puppy, puppy kindergarten is not only a lot of fun for both you and your new best friend, its also a place where your pup will learn lifelong lessons (like being able to share food, learn how to play with dogs of all sizes, and build confidence). Obedience school is much more serious and I think more for you then the dog in that the owners of the dog are basically taught training techniques that should be practiced at home every day (can't emphasize the every day part enough). The classes are kept small and since there are two instructors your dog never lacks for attention. We also recently hired Hudson Barks to walk our dog a few times a week. I highly recommend this service as well. They make an effort to match up the dog walker's style with your dog's personality. Our puppy is so happy on days she gets walked by Hudson Barks, and my evenings are a lot more relaxing because she has had a good midday workout. The prices are reasonable even if you only need the service 1-2X per week. They have packages and the more walks you get per week the prices get discounted. In short, my puppy has been transformed from a typical whacky, jumpy puppy into a dog you can sit with at a sidewalk cafe, have a beer and a bite to eat and almost forget she is there! read more

When we first got our puppy in August, we scoured the internet for training materials to get us up to speed. After the first week, we knew we needed to consult a professional and we were so so lucky to find Hudson Barks! We first did a couple private trainings with Jennifer, (who is absolutely amazing), and we were finally able to get into a groove. I was pretty shocked after the first training at how well my pup responded. She made sure to tell us what to correct but also assured us that this is a process and that if we put the work in, everything will turn out great in the long run. In addition to the private trainings, we've also done the pre-k, puppy socials as well as the puppy camp (Which I highly recommend). The puppy socials really helped our pup learn how to be around pups in a safe and secure environment. It was important to socialize her and during the pandemic this was the best option for us. Now our pup LOVES being around other dogs and just wants to make friend and play! During our time at Hudson Barks, we learned how to walk our dog, basic commands, address any behavioural/emotional issues....and generally speaking, learn how to give the best home for our pup. The puppy camp was great, as our pup was in a class with 1-2 other puppies, and spent most of the day, learning how to walk, handle agility, guidance, and had a set schedule for downtime/feeding/walking, etc. Jennifer also provided detailed notes and videos for us to review and apply to help better train our dog. Overall, our experience at Hudson Barks has been a really great one. Our pup is now 8 months, fully trained, and a just a wonderful addition to our family. Had it not been for Jennifer's guidance, training, and overall love for our pup we wouldn't be where we are today. I really owe it to her and her team for helping us on our journey. The owner, Jennifer, is very responsive and always communicative of any schedule or other changes. She also makes a point to meet with each family before services start. We were amazed at how our 14-week old rambunctious puppy responded to the session. While, we ("the parents') were getting educated in the dining room, the other half of the team was with our dog. She was 100% concentrated and engaged and about twenty minutes in started looking like a police dog. She will need more work, but after just one session, she is doing much better being left by herself. She is very good with the sit command and pretty good at stay. Hudson Barks is absolutely fantastic. They were an enormous help in training Toby, my 8 week old puppy. When I first got him, I literally couldn't leave his side. Every time I walked more than 5 feet away from him, he would start whining and shaking his pen with his teeth. It was obvious that he was developing separation anxiety. I quickly contacted Hudson Barks and they came over almost immediately to help. Toby had three private training sessions with Jennifer and Ashley. They provided great advice and training tips to ease his anxiety and also worked with him on obedience training. Toby also attended Puppy Preschool on Sundays. This gave him the opportunity to interact and socialize with other puppies. He absolutely LOVED puppy preschool and didn't want it to end. In addition to providing wonderful training, Hudson Barks walked my puppy twice a day while I was at work. Our walker, Sophy, was extremely reliable and did a fantastic job walking Toby. Toby had lots of fun with her. If you need a dog trainer and/or a dog walker, I enthusiastically recommend Hudson Barks. Sadly, Toby and I moved to NYC and am no longer able to use the services of Hudson Barks (due to the distance).
