Suffice it to say that this required hours in the car. Not like hours all at once because that would mean you'd be doing laps around the island but hours additive as in like four trips a day just to eat and then as many for the other stuff. Add to the steamy that made me feel like I was on the Gulf Coast in July which is not exceptional fact, add to it that driving in urban areas in foreign lands with weird (to me) street striping and Rules and right away I almost have a headache. End of day two, I wanted some local music. Something brewed up right there in that steamy kettle. Commence to scrolling and after this that and the other thing came upon 90.3 on my FM dial and voila, it was the Kai Leo Nui show I do believe (I peeked at the programming on their site just now to affirm). This is what that slot is all about: "KTUH is currently the only station that supports Hawaiian Language programming. Kai Leo Nui is a show that boasts the best of both traditional and modern Hawaiian music. From the chants of old to the new Hoku Hanohano award winners, this show strives to show the breadth of Hawaiian music through both vinyl and CD recordings." Just what the doctor ordered, But wait! There's more! Little did I know that each time throughout our various days when I tuned in there was something different going on, something different and consistently excellent. Crazy upon crazy, I started to look forward to each new excursion for as it enabled me to sample more. Just like the foods on the island, I could not get enough. Listen up. All the islands are special, but Oahu just got a whole lot more special for me, thanks to the good people at 90.3.

In fact, the bus drivers use the restrooms here all the time. As Nichole R. pointed out, there are no classrooms in this building, just offices, so unless you conduct business with the Office of General Counsel, UH Foundation, Board of Regents, or the President, you probably won't ever see the inside of this building (I know I didn't when I was a UH student). If you feel like popping in on the President to say hi or give her a piece of your mind regarding the rising tuition cost, don't bother. There is a security guard at the top of the staircase who won't let you in.

My history 152 class is in this building and it's weird because it's a class of 40 (SUPER WEIRD) and yet there are only five rows of seating but the columns fit a lot.. It's just.. different. This building seems a bit dirtier than the others as it often smells like cat feces since they're hanging around this area. It's real shady so it's colder here too. Not my cup of tea, but hey, it's not the worst.

This is a fantastic way to earn your degree at a faster pace than most and the instructors really appreciate the students. I always go to Pauladacy for any questions regarding my degree plan but if they are busy you can always check out Chris Chiu at Tripler. Both of these HPU employees are VERY knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong. I can't say the same for the other employees, although they are equally polite and I enjoy conversing with them, my paperwork has been messed up or I have been given misinformation. This is the only reason I removed stars and give it an "A-OK" rating. If you are already or almost done with your Bachelor's degree, check out the Master's program - you can take classes concurrently and get that degree sooner than expected.

"Isn't UHWO like part of LCC or something?"…read more If you're a UHWO [University of Hawaii at West Oahu] student you hear this every single time you mention your school to someone. Lets bust some myths here, UHWO isn't part of LCC [Leeward Community College]. Although the campuses are close together, it is a completely different school than LCC. They offer bachelor's degrees in business. public administration, social sciences, elementary education, humanities. Things I love about UHWO: -Small class sizes. I've never had a teacher that didn't know me personally. I think it's easier to learn in a smaller group because you're able to ask questions and discuss things as a class. -Lots of online/night classes. A lot of people who attend UHWO work at least part time or have kids, so not all classes are on weekday mornings. There are also accelerated classes where you can go to class for 6 weeks on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. Being able to work with students schedules let a lot of people come back to school and I really like having older people in my classes. They're always more serious about learning and aren't afraid to lead discussions and ask questions, so I feel like I learn more too. -Tight knit community. The school is so small that once I took a few classes, I always knew a couple of people in my new classes. Everyone (including professors and staff) are always friendly and helpful. -Low tuition. Compared to other universities (HPU, out of state schools, etc) UHWO is way cheaper. It's even cheaper than getting a bachelors at the Manoa campus. -Free parking. Enough said. -They don't require language credits to graduate! Personally, I wasn't interested in taking a language just because it's a grad requirement. Not having to take the language gives students the freedom to choose their own electives and learn things they're interested in, that can really help them later in life. There is a couple of downsides to UHWO. First, they offer a limited selection of programs, as compared to UHM. They also don't have a campus of their own--yet! They're building a brand spankin' new campus as I type, I think to be opened in 2012. Hopefully with a new campus UHWO will be able to offer more classes and programs. Despite these downsides, I think that UHWO is doing great with the resources it has. If your major if offered, I think you should definitely think about UHWO over UHM.
