The teacher came around a few times to check on the progress, so no worries! Book your appointment, park on campus, and sign in with the receptionist who will give a parking pass for $3 - which will be added to the bill for services. It's cash only. I came here for an education workshop. It consisted of various professors from HCC and assistants. I thought the workshops were informative and fun. They had the equipment for the lectures and work samples for us to take a look at. For one workshop, an assistant showed a group of us to their garden - sweet potato, taro, banana tree, and much more. HCC has their own private lot, but parking can be chaotic - the earlier you come, the better chance you'll get to find a parking spot.. or else you'll have to find street parking. The campus is like any other. You'll need a map to find your way around. Some buildings are older than others, soda machines are readily available :) There's a great student lounge in the education building (that's where I'm usually am). Overall, it's a great campus with wonderful professors. The early childhood professors seem to be passionate with their work and sharing their experience and knowledge to others. read more

It's an adventure at this institute of higher learning in Kalihi! Unless you come to school super early or super late, you will have to go off-roading to park your vehicle. The only parking available that's reasonably close to most classes is in a large uneven gravel lot. Deep dips and uneven surfaces welcome you! Another interesting thing is that the elevator in building 7, where most of the classrooms are in, only stops on every odd half floor. That's right! It stops between floors! So if you need to go to the third floor, you need to get off on floor 3 1/2 and walk down steps to get to the third floor. Besides this, the buildings and classrooms are old, but still suitable to learn in. There are many "amenities" including a privately run cafeteria, a coffee kiosk (The Hub), a student lounge, a library, and a computer room. Now that I'm completely finished with my undergraduate program, I can't help but look back on how far I've come not only as a student but also an individual. When I first got accepted into Honolulu Community College, I had just lost my father and had recently been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. My condition was so severe that I could barely even leave the house. Fortunately, being accepted into HCC meant that there were a multitude of online courses available, so for my first two years of college, I focused on making sure I was the best student that I could be. However, as you can probably imagine, there are only so many online courses you can take to appease your graduation requirements, so with the help of ACCESS--one of HCC's many helpful student resources--I was able to acclimate myself to a regular classroom and finish the rest of my Associate in Arts degree. Perhaps what sets apart the community colleges from the University of Hawai'i's Manoa campus is the fact that the professors you meet at CCs are individuals whom you really get the opportunity to know on an individual level. I know for me personally, had it not been for the likes of professors like Jerry Saviano, Fumiko Takasugi, Charlene Gima, Jeff Stearns, and so many others, I would not have had such a wonderful foundation to grow and mature from. In fact, it was through these professors that I gained invaluable knowledge, my first on-campus job opportunity, and lifelong friendships and connections that I still have today. And more than that, I am far from the individual that I was when I started. I was so fortunate to have had the beginnings of my undergraduate college career at HCC. If you're looking into a college and not sure where to start, I would highly recommend thinking about going to a CC first. Not only will you get your bearings for what is expected of you, but you'll also get to know your peers and professors on a more intimate level that will help you if you decide to transfer over to a university or go straight into the workforce. Not to mention that the resources available to you is something that you will be able to utilize both inside and outside of the classroom. If I had to choose between attending UHM or HCC first, I would still choose HCC. read more

My first time on campus today to conduct training for the upcoming APEC summit in Honolulu, and while I only went into two different buildings, I got a good feel for the campus. Actually, not as bad as I expected. A little worn and torn from the years of use, it still had a certain community college kind of quaintness to it that endeared me. The classrooms I entered were well lit and functional, although each room had completely different furniture and layouts. The elevators were interesting. Why in the world would someone want to drop you off on 'Floor 5.5? We like whole numbers when we enter elevators...making me think if I want the floor between 5 and 6 hurt me head. All-in-all, not a bad experience today, but I know a common problem for students that attend the campus is PARKING! Clearly, there's not enough of it, however I did see a rather large clearing just behind the campus that looks as if had prior buildings that were torn down. They allowed some of the overflow to park back there, so maybe the parking issue is not an issue at all!? I still prefer Kapiolani Community College's campus! read more

The building on the most east side of campus (idk the name) is GHETTO. The elevator stops at 1/2 floors....3.5 and 5.5 i think. So you either need to walk up or down depending on which floor you need to get to. I've always wondered how disabled students were able to get around this building.... The Hub, the little coffee kiosk is a nice place to get a drink. A little pricy, but they have daily specials and a wide variety of coffees and teas. Make sure you get a punch card!!!! and the cashiers/baristas are friendly! The Hawaiian Center (for native hawaiian students) is amazing, comparable to private school in terms of brand new Apple desktops, a plethora of tutors and small class sizes. Too bad not all students have access to these great resources. read more

Some teachers are good; I suggest you go to ratemyteacher.com, I've ha really good teachers, and I've had "how did you even graduate middle school" teachers. The one thing I can totally say is the admin department is HORRIBLE. The counselors had no idea about how to get a civil engineering degree (I think you have to take economics, but you took it another school.... Bah just take ours and you should be ok..."... "Wait, I gotta pay and take a class again cause you don't know?" "We'll, it's better to just retake it, why not...") admin doesn't care, they don't know, or they never pick up their phone. A lady at financial aide told me I had to be 25 to be able to get financial aide because I don't know my fathers SSN and refuse to talk to him. Turns out when I went to them a year later, the same lady said she didn't say that and I missed out! She was condescending towards me and said its not her, blame Obama. Way to take responsibility. They are under review for accreditation, the 2nd time btw. Oh and if your looking to impregnate/get pregnant this is the school for you. Girls dress worse then Ala Moana and guys are there to smoke, deal, and whistle at girls. The student counsel president won by default, and loves to push his Gay/transsexual policy, which is good if you are one, but if your not that minority, then prepare to have no voice. There are not a lot of activities for you, except blood drives, drag balls, gay marches/parades, and occasional video game lock in for a cause. They have what, a 20% graduation/transfer rate. (Read it in the HCC pamphlet) Get what you have to and get out ASAP, I know as soon as I get my criteria for engineering I'm moving to the mainland read more

I went to HCC for a bit... but I always felt I had to "watch my back". Especially because my classes were at night. I made sure I parked as close as I could to my class and carried a spray with me just in case. But I never did... so that's a good thing. As for the classes... the teachers were all very helpful and I learned a lot. read more

HCC is another place that I had never been to before today...and of course ever since Andy (now Ari) South was on Project Runway, I've always been a little curious about what this campus looked like! Driving down Dillingham, the school looks small...but it does span across a wide campus. We were here this weekend to help with a state robotics event that HCC was hosting (VEX Robotics). I'm not sure what building we ended up in, def one of the older ones...but it was a decent place to hold the event with ample parking for teams, spectators, and volunteers like ourselves. All I know is that one of the floors had a pretty cool dinosaur head and some cool student artwork. I know, not a super helpful review, but I find that these facilities need to be recognized and applauded for hosting events like this that advocate (youth) educational activities like these! Honolulu Community College is centrally located in "town". The commute from Kapolei is like 45 minutes in traffic. From Diamond Head, maybe 15-20 minutes?? HCC has parking lots in a few different areas throughout campus. A parking permit is $20 per semester. (And it is strictly enforced!) Metered parking only holds for 2 hours max... so this can get very annoying if you have to cross the street between classes to add a few more coins. The main buildings are right next to each other, and if you're lucky, you may have all your classes in one building. The atmosphere is A LOT better than that of Leeward Community College. For some weird reason, the students here at HCC are a little more focused and driven. The staff and faculty are very dedicated, well organized, and "Real". They strive to provide the best education possible. The class sizes are perfect. Average size is about 25 people. Some classes may have as little as 12 students. This definitely helps, especially when interaction with the teacher is needed. Overall, great campus. read more

This place... Im not a student here. I used their testing center for a pearson vue test. The campus is really easy to get around and everyone was helpful pointing me in the right direction. For parking you need to get a pass from the test center and then place in your car, or park on the street. There was plenty street parking and little walking difference The testing center is moved from what pearson vue's site tells you because of construction. Its now located in bldg 2, rm 214. The systems are aged, and the one i had was a little slow, AND froze on me when was trying to end my exam. I almost had a heart attack!!!! After about 10-15 min with the exam proctor toying with it, it finally started working.. Thankfully nothing was lost!! read more

I love this school! Parking is a bit of a pain if you don't have a permit, but the campus isn't full like other schools. The teachers are more older, but they really know their stuff. They are very helpful! When I came here for a math class, I learned about certain books being on "reserve" in the library. Saved me some money instead of having to buy books. They also have good programs at the school! I would recommend this school if they have the program that you're interested in. read more

Close to home, the teachers I choose are good and its just random and fit to my schedule, not much parking, all class is air conditioning, many major are here, we have our own coffee place n cafeteria... Generally I like this school. Most of the professors, with the exception of a few, are really great! I don't like the office part of this school to much. Counselors often have no idea what they are doing and an easy thing turns into 3 trips because the counselor can't get it right. Financial aid office takes forever, so submit your stuff timely. Cafeteria is decent but parking is horrible at times. read more

The aircraft mechanic program and other programs that are specialized than a general degree are bogus and they put you through a lot of frustration to get into those programs to get you to pay more money into tuition. I spent 1 year waiting to get into program and was told to keep taking classes until a spot opened up. It's a wast of money and they aren't helpful. There are better options online and other places than this and I am sorry I wasted a year and $1000 of money I didn't have to go here. read more

Took an exam here for my national boards. The people involved were efficient and professional, I got my parking permit in time despite it having the wrong date at first, and parking was not a difficulty at all. Maps were easy to follow and detailed instructions were provided. The campus itself has a few places to grab food, but is located conveniently within walking distance of a lot of restaurants. read more

I've only been going to Honolulu Community College for a year. I haven't been able to experience too many professors/lecturers. From the ones that I have experienced, they were good. I don't enjoy the campus too much. It always smells of cat poop, and the main area that you have to walk through to get from building to building has a bunch of smokers. So if you don't smoke it kind of sucks. The buildings also give off a high school kind of vibe. The cafeteria isn't too great either. I try not to eat there as much as possible. They do have a microwave there that you can use to heat up home lunch. I would use that a lot when I had classes that kept me at school during lunch. To park on campus, students need to pay for a parking pass. It's only twenty dollars which is A LOT cheaper than UHM. You can also try to find street parking, but whenever I go to school the street parking is pretty full. The parking pass guarantees me a spot. If you don't want to pay to park on campus I would suggest going to Windward Community College. There isn't traffic going from town to Kaneohe in the morning (: read more

This review is for the people in the Administration Building as opposed to the many dedicated teachers. The business office seriously needs customer service training. They talk to the customers in an unprofessional and derogatory manner. Admissions and Records isn't much better. Heaven help you if you don't have the right form or have a basic question; you will be belittled and spoken to with contempt. Its really sad that they are so bad because this is often one of the first departments a potential customer encounters. Can you imagine going into a store and being treated in such a rude manner? The ONLY thing that saves this campus is there are some really dedicated instructors. read more

The thing I love about community colleges is that you have a feel of a family-like environment and HCC didn't disappoint. The professors there were very friendly and the thing I'm really gonna miss...the cheap parking fee of $20/semester. It's something I really miss being a transfer student at Manoa. Ugggh! The 1/2 floors were weird at first, but nothing worth crying over. As far as the cafeteria goes, the only thing worth eating was the beef stew (omg!) Other than that, it could use a little tweaking on the menu. The hubm (coffee shop) was one of my favorite places to indulge in. Triple Chocolate Mocha shake and the Lychee ice tee w/ lychee jelly was the way to go. I also enjoyed their sandwiches. Gonna miss this place! read more

Some students while driving in the parking lot, needs to slow down. Where are the security guards??? In the mornings monitoring students driving in tha parking needs to be monitored better. I almost got hit twice on different days. Makes me wonder are they waiting for that to happen to start doing something about it to keep all students safe? This is the second time I've reviewed them. I think I'm going to start doing it every time they lose my paperwork. This is about the 7/8th time this has happened, starting with my transcripts, VA paperwork and now my spouse's tax return. I have email proof and confirmation that I turned it in. I submitted all my financial aid paperwork in April. July came they had lost his tax return. I send it again and all my requirements were satisfied by August 5th. Come October 12th they're asking for his tax return AGAIN! This time I have proof via email that it was sent. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR AWAY from HCC's incompetent office. read more
