Graduation/Farewell Party at the Writing Center when I got my AA and was prepping to transfer to UHM.
Rebekah L.

Now that I'm completely finished with my undergraduate program, I can't help but look back on how far I've come not only as a student but also an individual. When I first got accepted into Honolulu Community College, I had just lost my father and had recently been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. My condition was so severe that I could barely even leave the house. Fortunately, being accepted into HCC meant that there were a multitude of online courses available, so for my first two years of college, I focused on making sure I was the best student that I could be. However, as you can probably imagine, there are only so many online courses you can take to appease your graduation requirements, so with the help of ACCESS--one of HCC's many helpful student resources--I was able to acclimate myself to a regular classroom and finish the rest of my Associate in Arts degree. Perhaps what sets apart the community colleges from the University of Hawai'i's Manoa campus is the fact that the professors you meet at CCs are individuals whom you really get the opportunity to know on an individual level. I know for me personally, had it not been for the likes of professors like Jerry Saviano, Fumiko Takasugi, Charlene Gima, Jeff Stearns, and so many others, I would not have had such a wonderful foundation to grow and mature from. In fact, it was through these professors that I gained invaluable knowledge, my first on-campus job opportunity, and lifelong friendships and connections that I still have today. And more than that, I am far from the individual that I was when I started. I was so fortunate to have had the beginnings of my undergraduate college career at HCC. If you're looking into a college and not sure where to start, I would highly recommend thinking about going to a CC first. Not only will you get your bearings for what is expected of you, but you'll also get to know your peers and professors on a more intimate level that will help you if you decide to transfer over to a university or go straight into the workforce. Not to mention that the resources available to you is something that you will be able to utilize both inside and outside of the classroom. If I had to choose between attending UHM or HCC first, I would still choose HCC.

Thid place and the people are really put of it…read more For anyone trying to get in contact with these people via phone or email do not waste your time. Literally waited 6 days to recieve a call back from a lady name mendy or mini or something like that who not only was very impatient to me but disrespectful. Litterally had to give her my name 6 exact times before she finally got it right THEN to add insult to me she began to talk smart to me though as if my my name is the problem. After saying she would send me the package for enrollment i waited and waited and called back to get voice mail the rest of the morning. Still no enrollement package Now angry i called to speak to a supervisor who name is supposedly Jessica who is neither responsive to voice mails neither picked up the phone all morning. How do you expect people to want to enroll when the trash answering phones there is being rude and some not even picking up. PLEASE DONT USE THIS COMPANY. I FOUND IT MUCH EASIER TO JUST GO TO KCC WHERE THEY WANT STUDENTS. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND this place or services to anyone who respects their time. You guys deserve a zero for customer support. Trash!

Over the 20-years that we have been in business we have literally hired thousands and thousands of CNAs at the eight companies we own and operate throughout the State. After a while you start noticing patterns and one of the patterns that we have noticed that compared to most CNA schools, Healthcare Training & Career Consultants (HT&CC) does a GREAT job of preparing CNAs for the workforce. And it's not just me, I have heard Directors of Nursing, HR Managers, and Administrators tell me that they get excited when they see that a CNA applying for a job graduated from HT&CC because they have noticed that HT&CC students tend to come to work far better prepared than most. We have notice that HT&CC graduates seem more comfortable assisting with the activities of daily living, but it's also the little things like already knowing the importance of knocking before entering a room - this is a dignity issue, the critical need to wash hands before and after caring for a patient, providing privacy and blanket coverage when giving a bed bath, even knowing the normal ranges of blood pressure, heart rates, and breathing - things that you would expect that a RN would know but not necessarily a CNA. HT&CC graduates come to work already knowing these things that may seem small to most, but are critical to providing quality care. So when I am asked for recommendation for a CNA school or if one of my daughters wanted to become a CNA, I would without hesitation encourage them to attend HT&CC. And if you want to work as a CNA, know that when we see that a CNA job applicant is a recent graduate from HT&CC they automatically move to the very top of our interview list. I've come here every single freakin' week dis past spring semester + I totally love it. HPU students might not be aware of its existence, esp. since it just opened in Sept. 2011. I like you can come hea + do a variety of things w/o being obligated/forced to be quiet + study. LOCATED? Past da flower shop in the MP building, near HPU's shuttle stop. REVIEW #211

LATE NIGHT CLASSES…read more The facility is located on the HCC campus and I am currently going here for GIS training. Our instructor, Royce, is an amazing person. While trying to teach us something so complicated in a short period of time, he has been very patient with all of our questions. He is always there to help and even gave us his person number to call if we needed help over the weekends. This shows me that he really cares about his students and the he is a teacher that is willing to go out of his ways to help us, even if he isn't getting paid. The location at HCC is a little sketchy. Especially since our class is late and ends at 830PM, I don't see a security guard at all. I would feel more safe if it there were more light or at least a guard near our exits and parking lot. The only recommendation is that I wish they had an open computer lab that we could all come in to use later in the day. The place is open til 430PM but we have class til 8PM. Most people work til 500PM and will miss all the open computer labs. That is just one suggestion. I do recommend people to take classes through PCATT. The people I've spoken too seem really nice and their office and classes is in a central place of town.
