Limelight Cinemas makes going to the movies affordable and fun. The ticket prices are nearly half…read morethat of the other cinemas and the popcorn is actually edible, too! For two adults to go to a standard movie with a medium two drink combo came to under $40 - which wouldn't even get you through the door at other cinemas. The seating in both the standard and the XD cinemas is comfortable, even for larger individuals, which is not always true. Plenty of room to move and, in the standard cinemas, the arm rests lift up. We were staying in Kaleen but, particularly with Canberra's surprisingly reasonable bus fares, going to the Limelight was well worth the excursion.

The chips also weren't good. Kids hated them chips, and they usually love chips! All my reviews are standardised to the following star ratings: 1. Customer service I.e. friendly, easy to book, etc. 2. Accessibility I.e. location, decor and scenery, easily assessable or flexible, etc. 3. Work, health and safety I.e. clean, safe, etc. 4. Quality of goods and/or services I.e. good food, good movers, etc. 5. Comparison to similar for location - I.e. would I recommend this above other places

I enjoyed the Canberra Museum a lot more than I thought I would. I read the brief, a museum all…read moreabout Canberra? Surely I couldn't be too entertained. That doesn't really sell it well enough. The museum is actually predominantly a gallery (or at least seemed that way when I was there). Interested art work from local painters that have some sort of relevance to Canberra's past or present. One of the highlights for me was the collection of Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly paintings. Entry is free, so there's no real reason to not pop in and have a quick look around if you feel like escaping in some art.

The kids loved the Free Fall activity, and we're glad it was included in our tickets, and not an extra charge. The gift shop was great, a lot of interesting options for little curious minds. We didn't visit the café. Parking was very challenging, we paid for parking and were late coming out, and found a $120 parking ticket on the windshield!

I have a huge soft spot for Tilley's. Even though it opened doors only in the early 1980s, it is a…read more1950s piano bar kind of vibe. Think plush carpet, dark wood paneling, brass and mirrors, thick velvety drapes. I know this isn't quite a fair comparison, but it feels very old school LA to me (a la The Dresden, even). Yes yes, I know; I just compared a venue in Canberra to an iconic LA institution and that is crazy talk, but it's the best that I can do. This is a great place to sit and sip, with a friend or alone, at any time of the day. There is a huge variety of people here, betraying any attempt to cast it as a "scene" -- old couples, young couples, guys, gals, families, hipsters, tradies, lawyers, students working on laptops -- you name it. It's the kind of place where you'd run into people you know, and probably make new friends (at least with the bartenders). I know I'd be a regular if I lived here. Bottom line: we all know Canberra can't compete with Melbourne or Sydney in the restaurant and nightlife departments, so why bother trying to reproduce a night out in either of those two cities? A couple glasses of red wine at Tilley's will help you embrace the Canberra experience as its own thing.
