I've dealt with them since they came to Athens GA. Spent plenty of money with them. Over the last few months they have been terrible of fixing my saws, trowel machine and now they messed my weed eater up and don't wanna take responsibility of it.got a nasty attitude with me but im spending plenty money there but never again.are my family.carried one saw there got it back in pieces and still had to pay. Howard Brothers will not honor the warranty on my 360 hour Toro mower that I purchased from the Athens store 3 years ago......I spent $11K of very hard earned money to purchase this machine.....covered with a "warranty" and thought Howard Brothers was on my team ! Be very careful with this place. They're suck rip off. I ordered a lawn mover there and asked them if they install for free and they said yes. However, when it arrived a week later and they put it on and charged me an extra $15 just for 1 tire. It's not about the money, just really pissed because the way they do business. I received a call letting me know my warranty was about to expire on my zero-turn and if I had it serviced now all parts under warranty would be covered. I asked how much the service was and was told between $200 and $250. When I picked my mower up, I was charged $435.93. I was told the service charge did not cover any service parts needed for the service. How do you do a service without parts? An estimate at the start should have included parts in the estimate. They did not even call to ask if I was ok with the increase in the price for parts before doing the work. However, I did get three pullies replaced under warranty. Not sure what that saved me? If you are in Athens and need work on your lawn mowers or small engines then Riverside Mower is a great place to start. I have used them several times now and have always been happy. They saved me money once when they suggested straightening a bent crankshaft that I was asking them to replace. I didn't know that was possible but the engine is strong after 2 years with no added vibration. When I needed to order a bunch of parts to freshen up the well used mower, their price quote was inline with the best prices I could find online and sales tax was cheaper than shipping would have been. This used to be Riverside Mowers - a great shop. I didn't know it had changed hands before going. I figured I'd try them out since I had already made the long trip from Lexington with my push mower in my truck. The problem was my mower sputtered to a stop seconds after cranking. I told they guy I'd like that problem fixed and a general tune-up and blade sharpening for the new season. I left it there and they required a $42 deposit for the labor of diagnosing the problem. I wasn't thrilled with that, but that's reasonable because they'd be spending time on the machine before ever doing anything with it and it would apply to any subsequent bill. I got a call the next day from their head mechanic, Fernando, and heard I'd need a new carburetor. Thanks ethanol! He told me it would be about $150 total (minus the deposit). It is an old-ish machine and I wasn't sure I wanted to sink that much money into it rather than just biting the bullet and buying a new mower. I told him I'd call back with my decision. I called back the next day, got through their automated phone system (more on that shortly), and was asked to hold by the guy who answered the phone. I held and held and about 5-10 minutes later (not exaggeration) a female answered the line. She hadn't realized I was on hold and told me the guy who answered must have forgotten about me. Great. I told her my name and that I wanted them to do the repairs. I tried calling back the next week - tried. I got stuck in automated answering service hell. "Enter the extension you want or 0 for assistance." Entering 0 resulted in a message saying the voicemail box was full. I tried again and again for about 15 minutes. No luck. No alternate phone number. It was close to the end of the day so I just gave up. The next day I went through the same routine, but persisted and finally got a guy. I asked if my mower was done. He hemmed and hawed and put Fernando on the line. He checked his paperwork and said no work had been done because they were still waiting for the go-ahead. I was pissed. I told Fernando I had called back and given it the previous week and asked if this meant I was now at the back of the line. He said he'd move it to the front of the line and hoped it could be completed that day. Kudos to Fernando! The shop closes at 5pm. I began calling at 4:15 to find out if the mower was ready. Again, voicemail hell, but five minutes of calling and re-calling I finally got a human. This guy asked me if I could hold. Damn me for a fool, but I said yes. I began kicking myself immediately and pulled out my cellphone to time the hold. Seven and a half minutes later, I hung up and left work early to go to the shop. If my mower wasn't ready, I was planning on just demanding it back along with my deposit. As I pulled in at 4:45, Fernando called my cell and told me the mower was ready. Again, kudos to Fernando! I was still ticked. While I waited to pay for my repairs, there were two employees helping other customers. The phone rang and rang and no one paid it any attention. Poor bastards, at least I was getting out. I paid the balance, $92 and change, and left with the mower. When I got home I found the blade had not been sharpened. I wasn't changed for it, but I had asked for that to be done. My mower works fine. Thanks Fernando! But I will never go back to Howard Brothers. Simply calling them is an exercise in frustration. Oh yeah, they say on their website that "We also offer a full service small engine shop of any make and model" but that's not true. They told me they don't work on Troy Bilt equipment. read more

This not the cheap place to get lawn equipment/chainsaws/aereators, etc. They only carry the expensive brands. The service from Buddy and Craig and Fernando is first rate. Craig answered 50 questions and never seemed overwrought by my next,"whatif". They used to be Riverside Mower till Roger retired and sold to the guys from Atlanta. I liked it better as Riverside, cause the owner was always there but Buddy stayed on with the new people, so there is that bit of continuity. Prices went up when the new Guys took over but I think they kept the old mechanics on the payroll. Service seems ok, just more expensive than before and it doesn't have that owner is on the premises feel to it. I keep going to them. They are close by and they are not unpleasant to be around like Colbert Lawnmower at the hardware store there. read more

This company is like the hot chick in school and they are very condescending by acting like you have to go to them because they are the only big shiny dealer/service company in town. I think they have great mechanics but their customer service is terrible. They have sold me faulty parts for my mower and would not take them back because they were considered used. I have called the Service Department and left many messages over several months trying to inquire about whether or not they would work on a pressure washer but they will not pick up the phone. I've left several messages but they will not call me back to say yes or no. I've told myself many times to not do business with them anymore and this time I'm done. Riverside came highly recommended by a very knowledgeable person with a lot of experience with yard tools. Because of this recommendation, I purchased a Stihl Kombi system. This has been a great tool but after 2 years it began to get harder and harder to start so I wanted it looked at. Instead of doing the smart thing and taking it to Riverside I took it to a Stihl dealer closer to the house. The next day I got the news it needed a new carb! It was going to take another day and about $100 dollars! I said no thanks and took it to Riverside. They looked it over and yes it needed a new carb. Likely too much ethanol gas. Riverside changed the carb out in minutes and charged me half what the other guy was going to charge. I highly recommend them! read more

RUN AWAY!!! These guys are absolute crooks! I used to take my mower to Riverside Mower-these crooks, Howard Brothers, took over the business. I left my push mower (valued at $120) to get serviced, and they required a $42 deposit for an oil change! I'd never heard of such a thing, but paid it. I got a call 2 days later from Fernando that my engine was frozen and I needed a new one. he estimated about $450.00 for a new engine for a mower only worth $120!! I immediately called, put on hold, called back 3 times before getting Fernando on the line. I told him that of course I didn't want anything done to my mower, and that I would pick it up today and wanted my $42 refunded since no work was done. He said no luck on getting that $42 back-it's a deposit everyone makes toward "diagnostics" on the mower. I asked to speak to an owner or manager. He said they weren't there. I told him I would be picking up my mower today and would be disputing the $42 charge with my bank as well as filing a report with the Better Business Bureau. I left my number for a manager or owner to call me back to settle this issue. PLEASE don't waste your time or money on this new business! They are absolute criminals!! read more
