No one wants a young family member to be in a children's hospital. But if she or he is sick enough,…read moreyou're glad there's one around. My granddaughter recently spent several days here. While I could tell you all about it, her malady and treatment plan wouldn't matter all that much to you, What might be useful for others in a similar position? Trust that the medical team is doing their best to diagnose/treat, and prepare for the plan to change daily based on progress or the lack thereof. If you visit more than once, it's helpful to know that in addition to the ER parking lot and the little guest lot SE of the main entrance, there is a large family parking garage on the west side of the outpatient building that you enter from N Manassas. A stairwell on the east-side center leads to a walkway east toward the outpatient building and main hospital. Once you head in that direction, you'll get your bearings. The kind staff members at visitor registration can point you toward anything else you need. Thanks, LCH, for providing good care to kids and their families, mine included.

I have a ruptured disc and was sent to this office for a spinal block. I will never go here again…read morenor ever recommend this office. Not one person looked me in the eye or showed a bit a human interaction. Nothing was explained to me about the procedure. Just go there sit there lay there. No smiles no compassion, like every person, including the doctor's, dog just died. To top it off, during the procedure, when they thought I was out of it, but didn't give me enough drugs to make me out of it, heard them discussing my lower back tattoo in a negative way. You don't know me so don't judge me. Let alone talk about me when I am in the same room. I felt like I was a corpse in an autopsy. Not one staff member looked or acted like they liked their job or that they wanted to be there. I have worked in the medical field for 16 years and no matter how I'm feeling I have always been friendly, smiled and always try to make the patient feel I am there for them. This office needs a rework. But maybe it's just the doctor setting the mood...

The last time my insurance wanted some paperwork for medical necessity and he screwed around for 4 months complaining that they wouldn't pay him when all they wanted was some paperwork. He refused to see me because of the problem with the insurance until I called them and I guess he finally got around to communicating with them. They changed their policy to require pre-approval and it took three weeks for that and then Kraus needed another three weeks to get me an appointment for a half hour procedure that could have ended my misery. I have to beg for some pain meds and he gave me about a weeks worth so I would have to come back and beg some more. He then decided to require me to have to take a urine screen before I could have any more meds and guess what? It didn't matter because they didn't have an appointment available until after the procedure anyway. The whole office has a chip on their shoulder and Kraus is the worst of the lot. Avoid them if possible.

HOWEVER, their billing practices are dreadful and deceitful. they charged us nearly $1300 upfront, saying that's what we owed and it HAD TO BE collected in full before he could have the much needed, non negotiable surgery, so we had no choice but to pay it. when the insurance EOB processed a few weeks later, we only owed a fraction of that, and are now (still to this day) due a refund of over $850. when i called on his behalf, i was met with a most unfriendly billing associate and told that she did NOT agree on their end that we had overpaid and were due a refund. my husband then contacted his insurance company (blue cross blue shield of tennessee), and they agreed he was due a hefty refund of over $850, and they made a call on his behalf. they also were told the same thing by the same unfriendly associate, that they did not see on their end they owed us the refund. at this point they have been double paid- both by insurance and us, which is a form of insurance fraud. i called the billing manager and asked for a call back on 12/15, and have yet to receive a call back nearly 10 days later. in conclusion, they are happy to collect your money upfront, and it's even required. but when it comes to paying you back what you didn't owe, that will take some doing. we haven't given up and will seek legal assistance if needed. i would HIGHLY recommend the wolf river surgery center for your surgical needs, but only if you are ok with paying a lot of money upfront that you may or may not owe.

My primary care physician had ordered a MRI to be done at the hospital which showed a herniated disk touching my spine and moderate spinal canal stenosis. I was very nervous being referred to a neurosurgeon, but Dr. Cardenas eased my worries, due to his professionalism and knowledge of spine issues. He recommended that I have ACDF surgery two weeks after my initial visit. I really was happy that my pain was taken seriously and everything far as pre-surgery prep was done my first visit. Many test were performed, and before I left I found out the numbness in my ring and pinky finger was caused by a compressed nerve in my elbow. I've previously had a tingling sensation in my elbow, but I thought it was from me leaning on it. So...SPINE AND ELBOW SURGERY two weeks later. Dr. Cardenas staff was extremely helpful. Nurse Bonnie addressed all of my concerns leading up to surgery. I looked up YouTube videos of the procedures that would be performed on me. I had a million questions, and nurse Bonnie replied to me immediately through the Semmes Murphey portal, which I received a login my first visit. She also called me a couple of times as well. Days before surgery I couldn't take certain medications, and those reminders were given verbally and by handouts. I wasn't nervous at all until day of surgery.....talk about butterflies. We arrived about 6:30 a.m. at Semmes Murphy. The surgery facility is on the second floor and there's a waiting room for family/friends to wait in. It didn't take long at all for me to be called to the back. I was prepped for surgery as soon as I went back to my room. The nurse started an IV..while different people from the surgery team introduced themselves. I was terrified lol. I don't know if it was the medicine in the IV or nerves but I was freezing. Hospital staff brought in multiple warm blankets, but I was still freezing. I can remember telling them that I wasn't ready to be put to sleep. I guess they saw I was very nervous and the anesthesiologist came in so I knew it was about that time. She put medicine in my IV and a couple of other nurses came to transfer me to a different bed to wheel me out. Last thing I remember was one of the nurses asking me if I like to travel and I said yes I love traveling....and then lights out for about 4 hours for me. It only seemed like minutes when I woke up with a neck brace on and staples in my elbow with an arm sling. The staff definitely took very good care of me and I appreciate all the support they have provided.
