In a city that runs on the power of its health care options, I'm trying to do my part to add to the…read morewealth of medical knowledge. While going to the doctor is no where near as fun as getting a cocktail or sitting down to a lobster dinner, it's a fact of life. In Nashville, it's the strong arm of our economy. I see this review as providing a public good to the community at large, body of Yelp content and, specifically, to men in Middle Tennessee. You're welcome. Dr. Chang is not a doctor you ever want to see but if you need to see this sort of doctor, he's the only one you want. Does that make sense? Read it over and see if it does. I'm pretty sure it does but I'll wait. It does? Okay. Cool. No one wants to go to the urologist. But, bodies age and parts do weird things. When they do, you want the best of the best making sure everything is okay. Dr. Chang is, both, very smart and extremely personable. These are very good qualities in a physician. His intellect is what you want when it comes to making diagnoses, discerning what's happening in a situation and having the expertise to handle things with as little muss and fuss as possible. His people skills are evidenced in a mix of humor and straight-forwardness. He knows no one wants to see the urologist so he does what he can to relate to you as an individual who just might be a wee* bit freaked out. From the examination room to the procedure, Dr. Chang had a steady hand, rock solid staff, relaxing, engaging tone, all the information you'd want/need, and the prowess to make an awkward/frightening experience into one you can get through. I did as much research as I could before heading to the doctor. Everything I read about Dr. Chang put me at ease. Knowing that he's friends with my GP (who is super awesome!) put me at ease. In case you're looking for a doctor and don't know where to turn, I leave this review to let you know to look for Dr. Chang. When you need a urologist, you're going to want the best. He's the best. *Yes, I heard it.

I've been a patient here for a few years, and at first everything was great. I used to see Dr…read more Scarpero at the Nashville location and never had any issues getting an appointment with her. Since she retired, though, it's been really frustrating. Now I can only get appointments with a physician assistant. I recently tried to move my Friday appointment in May to something sooner, but no one answered the phone and my voicemail wasn't returned. I called again today, left another message, and finally got a callback. When I asked to see a doctor instead of the PA, I was told I have to see the PA first before I can even get scheduled with a doctor. I was also told the PA is only in the office Monday through Wednesday. Then when I asked how I somehow have a Friday appointment in May, I found out it's actually at the Franklin office--which no one mentioned when it was booked. On top of that, the online scheduling tool only shows PAs, not doctors, and the one I'm scheduled with doesn't even publish her schedule online in the booking tool. At this point, I'll be finding a different urologist. I just want to be able to schedule with a doctor without jumping through hoops or wasting extra time and money.

I was hopeful by how professional they look on their website that they would act professionally. I was under the impression they were gonna call and let me know. Not only that, but they were supposed to send for a 24 hour collection for me and when I called to follow up about it since I hadn't received the container, they referred me to call the LabCorp place to check on the status. When I called LabCorp, they said they didn't even have the referral or the order sent to them. Now I have to follow back up with Female Urology a third time when they didn't do their job in the first place. I have come to the conclusion that based on conversations, the staff just want to get off the phone with you. Hardly a way to run a business.

The way that the office is set up to be handled by a call center is absolutely ridiculous. I need…read moreto specifically know if a procedure is done at the the clinic or not. According to Raven at the call center, she cannot take a message or let me speak to anyone other than her. It's like she's the queen of the urology department or something. I don't understand how their phone assistants say they aren't allowed to direct a call to a manager or clinical staff if you aren't a patient yet. She told me to set up an appointment and they can let me know at that appointment if they do the procedure or not. EVEN TELLING HER I WAS IN ANOTHER STATE she didn't care. This cannot be how Vanderbilt handles their patients - this is CRAZY Update 4-6-26: Got a call back from a team lead named Kat. kat says she asked the doctor if they perform that procedure or not - calls me back to say this: that they can only let me know if they do the procedure once I come in for an appointment and they review my medical records. WHAT? can nobody in this office understand it's a simple yes or no answer if they can accommodate a certain procedure?! Who wants to hop on a plane to come ask a question and at that pay out of pocket to do that! You've got to be kidding me that this is how they treat a patient at Vanderbilt. It would be like If I call a spa to see if they offer a certain type of massage and they reply well come on in and pay to be seen and ask and we will let you know when we see you. WHAT A JOKE.

I waited by my phone for a week. No one ever called. When I complained, I was told by Russ Kunick that no one would ever tell me that, and it is completely normal to not speak with the patient after a biopsy, He said it is the patients responsibility to contact them if they have any questions about the results. That is definitely not the way I want to be treated, and I will not return to Vanderbilt for any reason. I was later told by my oncologist that the results of the biopsy are invalid because it was too soon after ADT, and that any competent urologist would have known that. Now I have to repeat the biopsy just 3 moths later.
