Kolaches and Polka music... was my exposure to Czech culture until today. I was recently on an audio tour of Houston's museum district and they mentioned the Czech Museum. So headed on over. I came up to the building and noticed the operating hours were open now but I couldn't open door. There was a bell so I went ahead and rang it. I was graciously let in by Olivia, which would be my private tour guide. The Czech Museum is the newest addition to the official Houston Museum district so it doesn't get a lot of traffic. I was glad though because I was able to get a personal 1 on 1 tour for only 6 BUCKS!!! This by far was the best deal I got all day on my visits to the museums. Photography is allowed in the building so you get to keep memories of all of the beautiful art. Olivia is very knowledgeable and was willing to answer any of my questions no matter how silly they seemed. On my way out she even gave me a free bottle of water since it was so HOT outside. Upstairs is a very nice banquet hall that can rented out. They are TABC licensed and allows for any catering company to be brought in. I would tell anyone in Houston to come check this small and personal museum, be sure to ask for Olivia, she will take care of you!

Thumbs Up: The rooftop lawn and garden are beautiful and provide a relaxing place to enjoy the city skyline. Thumbs Up: Portions of the rooftop are dedicated to gardens that grow fresh produce, adding a unique touch to the space. Neutral: I wasn't able to determine where the harvested produce ultimately goes. I'm sure the information is available somewhere, but I don't recall seeing it during my visits. Thumbs Up: I can actually see my home from the rooftop. Thumbs Up: I've watched a few rooftop concerts from my balcony. Thumbs Up: As an added bonus, it's always entertaining to hear some of my neighbors complain about the "noise pollution" during HOA meetings. Living Downtown comes with unique advantages and occasional inconveniences. If someone can't tolerate city life, they may be happier living in the suburb provinces. Thumbs Down: Access to the rooftop is sometimes restricted during seasonal events and special art installations. I understand the need for ticketed events, but I wish general access to the public spaces could remain available whenever practical. Thumbs Down: I am able-bodied, but I couldn't help noticing that rooftop access appears difficult for visitors who use wheelchairs or have mobility impairments. The elevators are not easy to locate, and several were out of service during my many visits. Improving accessibility would make this space more welcoming for everyone.

They host an array of events and activities (some are free, while others are ticketed). Events and activities include live music, DJs, yoga, Zumba, and seasonal events like Winter Wonderlawn during Christmas and Lunar New Year. There are seven gardens which take up about an acre. There's signs throughout the lawn that explain the different gardens and various spaces. Sky Farm is operated by Blackwood Educational Land Institute and they focus on regenerative agriculture and cultivation of food. The Outpost can be rented for events. Yelp Houston has hosted some events at the Outpost in the past. During the summer, it gets very hot! They have quite a few covered/shaded areas and there's vendors throughout if you need water or a beverage. There's lots of seating too (both covered and uncovered). A visit to Post Houston isn't complete without making the trek up to Skylawn! The views alone are worth it!
