This school looks exactly how it looks, welcoming, friendly, and family oriented. When I walked in Professor Rose welcomed me and introduced me to Professor Dentinho. He led a great class on half guard passing and after I was able to roll with the members. After class, I spoke to a few of the members and they were all friendly and was happy I stopped by. The class was great and I had great training partners during our rolls. I highly recommend this school for locals AND visitors. When I do return in the future, I plan visit Professor and his team at Active Jiu Jitsu! THANK YOU!

I just had to stop coming here. period. The staff is kind and sweet but that does not hide the fact…read morethat they are a bit disorganized and have a hard time keeping up with all their members. I originally used a groupon thinking I can go to the nearest one to my home but no, turns out the only location out of the 4 that is open is the one on Hammerly road. I wish I had known that before purchasing the deal but hey, no refunds and I had already told my kids about it. We came here and everything seemed ok, until June when they only had camp members and not regular class students. Then After our vacations and seeing that regular classes resumed we attended class once again however all the students were new and my kids felt left out. This class was mostly for fun, however I was hoping that my kids would benefit more than just playful interaction since their regular soccer season resumes later in the fall. If you just want your kids to play and get to know other kids, this is great for them but in my case I was hoping to get more than just playing time. More like staying fit, learn life skills, and discipline.

THIS BUSINESS IS A SCAM!…read more First of all, I bought the Groupon for 20 classes, 2 private lessons, and uniform. I forget how much I paid but it wasn't much. I was excited to start my four year old in martial arts and thought this would be a good introduction. The Groupon states you need to call and make an appointment so I called and spoke to a man who said to come in that Friday. I come in on Friday, not knowing what to expect, but the woman at the desk says he's not coming in. I'm irritated now that we've driven 45 minutes in traffic to arrive and be told the owner would not be coming in for a scheduled appointment! Anyway, not wanting to leave and waste my time I ask her what we can do. She proceeds to tell me we need to pay a registration fee of $50. I tell her that the Groupon said nothing about this fee and she told me it was in the fine print. I assure her I've read it and I didn't see anything about a fee. She tells me she see's it on her phone. Anyway, she asks for my phone to try and point out this fee business, and she can't find it! She says "oh it's probably on the website". Feeling like I'm being scammed but not wanting to back out, knowing how excited my son is, I reluctantly pay the $50 fee. We're given the calendar and told what classes he can come to. Fast forward to the next week, we come in for my sons first class. This class is for beginners 3-5 years old. We're told to come early so we can get the uniform. I come early and no one was there! They opened up as soon as the class was supposed to start, at 4. She tells me the owner hasn't brought the uniforms. My son was the only one that showed up. The instructor was patient with him but we were only there for 10 mins! This was supposed to be a 45 min class! I brush it off thinking it's probably because he's the only kid here and it's his first lesson. We come back for the hyper class ages 3-8 and are quickly told he's too young and not ready for this class! Clearly! So we've wasted our time driving here for nothing. At this point I'm fed up and just leave, not wanting to get upset in front of my son. I feel totally scammed and used by this business. We showed up for 2 classes and we were never given a uniform. Never saw or met the owner. This is NOT how you conduct a business by lying to people and misleading them. They tricked me into paying the $50 fee and we've only gone to 2 classes. I'm considering it a lesson learned on my part and will not be going back. I wish I would have read the reviews on this business before buying the Groupon, but Groupon doesn't make it clear the business' name. I would have never bought the Groupon or given this business a chance if I had read the reviews here.

She has met a lot of friendly kids and has gained so much confidence, pride, and athletic skill since beginning her lessons in August. She works out HARD, but willingly does her very best. Classes are inexpensive. We pay under $160 per month and that gives her two classes and one sparring lesson per week. That's 12 classes per month. I highly recommend checking this place out. I've seen all age groups: Younger kids, tweens and teens. I think there are some adult classes, but we've not gone to them (she is much too young). There is a team, but she's new and wasn't confident to try out for the team just yet. Maybe next year!

Chayon Ryu means, 'Natural Way System' - we should move in ways that are bio-mechanically friendly & efficient for humans to move. This reduces the chances for injury or long term wear & tear on the joints, and maximizes the speed & power one can develop. There are many students and instructors here who have been training for 20, 30, 40 years and their health & mobility reflect this. This is a traditional martial arts school - not a club or a place to hang out and try a few tricks/techniques. Injuries are very rare as students and instructors treat each other with respect and patience. I started studying Chayon-Ryu when I was in high school as an almost desperate attempt to end the bullying I experienced for most of my childhood. Chayon-Ryu instilled valuable skills, confidence and life-long friendships into me. Train for more than a couple of years and the benefits, beyond learning how to kick and punch, will pour forth into your life. And if you have any children interested in learning karate, Master Sean Kim is FANTASTIC. I have never seen someone so great with kids. He is super patient and is so good at teaching the youngest of the students self-control and discipline. Try a few lessons out and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Living in the energy corridor I had a lot of different options but I did not want a cookie cutter gym, I wanted somewhere that I could belong, somewhere that I felt the staff would get to know me and not judge me if- and when- I did something wrong. Plus I wanted classes- I LOVE group exercise classes cause I have no idea what to do on my own. So I took my then boyfriend and we went to MAC. We really found it to be a welcoming place. It is not the cheapest around but one thing I have learned is that I would always rather have quality in the things that affect my overall well being. I have made friends at this gym, I have been through Harvey and road construction with this gym and I always felt valued as a member. I've been kept in the loop- they do a fantastic job of hosting different types of events and keeping their social media up to date. And now through what is proving to be one of the most interesting events to happen they continue to show their dedication to members by offering youtube classes and free virtual classes. Every day they are posting and making sure there is something to do and a way to get a workout in even at home. This is far more than a gym but truly also a community and a family.
