I live out of state and Nathan made it super easy: answered all my questions, worked with our schedule, and even taught the full class while he was feeling under the weather because he didn't want to let us down. This place deserves a look from anyone because that kind of care says everything about a business and its instructors! The lesson itself was excellent. In two hours we learned guards, basic cuts, basic footwork, and did some partnered drills with real swords. Everything was clear, safe, and a ton of fun. We all walked out well informed on the art and history, happy, and already wanting more. Clean space, good gear, and an instructor who clearly loves what he does. Highly recommend for beginners like me or anyone curious about HEMA. If you're the kind of person who enjoys Houston Ren Faire this is a must do activity. Thanks Nathan!

They were kind to have my two boys trial the class twice before we decided to officially join. We are really happy with Coach Jackson and Coach Teddy, they are able to keep the boys engaged and excited to learn. Also, every class there are always additional coaches and older students assisting with the younger class. One thing my boys look forward to each class is fireball at the end! Every class my boys count their attendance, eager for their next stripe. This gym keeps track of each kids attendance diligently with an attendance card. Coach Dianne does a really amazing job managing all of that and more! I have been super impressed with this gym, I myself have joined the combative classes. So far I am really enjoying all the lessons, I feel safe and encouraged during each class. You can really tell that Coach Jackson cares by the way he teaches us. All the coaches have been wonderful---they have built a wonderful community and I would recommend this gym to anyone! They also offer Muay Thai classes with Coach Matt (Matty Ice), who have been very kind. He is teaching us techniques and form of Muay Thai!

I hesitated to go back to jiujitsu because most schools throw inexperienced people in a room and say "go at it"! This leads to a ton of injuries. NOT at GJJ Houston!!! I came to a free seminar at this Gracie Certified Training Center in Houston run by Professor Jackson Fortunato. This gym runs a very structured and very safe school that is backed with an amazing curriculum created by Gracie University. They believe everyone can learn jiujitsu and not have to worry about the "only the strong belong" mentality. Everyone is super nice and welcoming. I originally used a groupon thinking I can go to the nearest one to my home but no, turns out the only location out of the 4 that is open is the one on Hammerly road. I wish I had known that before purchasing the deal but hey, no refunds and I had already told my kids about it. We came here and everything seemed ok, until June when they only had camp members and not regular class students. Then After our vacations and seeing that regular classes resumed we attended class once again however all the students were new and my kids felt left out. This class was mostly for fun, however I was hoping that my kids would benefit more than just playful interaction since their regular soccer season resumes later in the fall. If you just want your kids to play and get to know other kids, this is great for them but in my case I was hoping to get more than just playing time. More like staying fit, learn life skills, and discipline.

THIS BUSINESS IS A SCAM!…read more First of all, I bought the Groupon for 20 classes, 2 private lessons, and uniform. I forget how much I paid but it wasn't much. I was excited to start my four year old in martial arts and thought this would be a good introduction. The Groupon states you need to call and make an appointment so I called and spoke to a man who said to come in that Friday. I come in on Friday, not knowing what to expect, but the woman at the desk says he's not coming in. I'm irritated now that we've driven 45 minutes in traffic to arrive and be told the owner would not be coming in for a scheduled appointment! Anyway, not wanting to leave and waste my time I ask her what we can do. She proceeds to tell me we need to pay a registration fee of $50. I tell her that the Groupon said nothing about this fee and she told me it was in the fine print. I assure her I've read it and I didn't see anything about a fee. She tells me she see's it on her phone. Anyway, she asks for my phone to try and point out this fee business, and she can't find it! She says "oh it's probably on the website". Feeling like I'm being scammed but not wanting to back out, knowing how excited my son is, I reluctantly pay the $50 fee. We're given the calendar and told what classes he can come to. Fast forward to the next week, we come in for my sons first class. This class is for beginners 3-5 years old. We're told to come early so we can get the uniform. I come early and no one was there! They opened up as soon as the class was supposed to start, at 4. She tells me the owner hasn't brought the uniforms. My son was the only one that showed up. The instructor was patient with him but we were only there for 10 mins! This was supposed to be a 45 min class! I brush it off thinking it's probably because he's the only kid here and it's his first lesson. We come back for the hyper class ages 3-8 and are quickly told he's too young and not ready for this class! Clearly! So we've wasted our time driving here for nothing. At this point I'm fed up and just leave, not wanting to get upset in front of my son. I feel totally scammed and used by this business. We showed up for 2 classes and we were never given a uniform. Never saw or met the owner. This is NOT how you conduct a business by lying to people and misleading them. They tricked me into paying the $50 fee and we've only gone to 2 classes. I'm considering it a lesson learned on my part and will not be going back. I wish I would have read the reviews on this business before buying the Groupon, but Groupon doesn't make it clear the business' name. I would have never bought the Groupon or given this business a chance if I had read the reviews here.

Chayon Ryu means, 'Natural Way System' - we should move in ways that are bio-mechanically friendly & efficient for humans to move. Plus I wanted classes- I LOVE group exercise classes cause I have no idea what to do on my own. So I took my then boyfriend and we went to MAC. We really found it to be a welcoming place.
