It is with great pleasure that I submit this review regarding the design and installation of my under deck drainage system. Last july, following Hurricane Beryl, I contacted Houston Deck and Shade to provide a remedy for a massive under deck flooding issue. Loren, owner, was so attentive and professional.. He listened to my concerns and designed a plan to correct the problem. I am so happy to announce that we have not had any water issues since the final installation.. His team of guys showed up as scheduled and completed all job tasks on time. Any and all concerns that we had were met with a timely response and appropriate action. In the lake Livingston, Tx area, it is nearly impossible to expect timely and professional service providers. However, Houston Deck and Shade is quite the exception. We got several bids from reputable companies. Loren (owner) came to our home, went over the job in detail. Made us very comfortable with his knowledge and ethics. He was not low bid, and in fact, another company tried to lower their bid after they were made aware of the bid amounts. We had told them that they needed to be competitive. We declined the last minute bid change from the other company and went with Houston Deck and Shade. The job was spectacular. They tore out a deck that had disintegrated having been built touching the earth. They redesigned the new deck with extra gates for my dogs, aluminum ballisters for a nice finished look, and steps that it should have had all along. Three months later we invited them back to stain. Again the job was professional. They power washed it first, then came back, adjusted a gate that had a little sag in it, and it looks wonderful. Reminded us to call them if at any time we need help with it. They also do maintenance on decks so we will be inviting them back over the years to keep it looking new and working well. read more

My patio had an old wood deck, which was beyond it's lifetime. I got several estimates on Trex decking from Trex dealers. Houston Deck and Shade, a Trex Pro dealer was one of them. Loren Goodrich, the owner, came out, and looked at my project, educated me on Trex and answered all my questions. Loren's company wasn't the cheapest, but Loren impressed me with his sincerity, and he really helped me decide which product was best for me. I chose Trex Select in the color "Saddle", which is a beautiful medium shade of brown, exactly what I wanted. Daniel Davis and Jose Rivera, the crew that did my job, were professional, efficient, thorough and neat. They removed, and discarded the old rotted substructure and the wood decking. They rebuilt a strong, new substructure and laid the beautiful Trex deck! Thank you Daniel and Jose for your extra effort and your hard work! Poor craftsmanship and business ethics. A built deck without deck screws, charged $500 extra for a poor stain job. Workers did discarded cigarette butts around the yard and did not clean up masonry properly also leaving pieces of wood and discarded nails around the job site. Refused to fix the deck properly after it started falling apart a year later. Overpriced especially for a deck improperly secured. read more

Our Pavilion was built about 3 months ago. I am totally impressed with the workmanship, materials and looks of the project. We love the pavilion and plan on many years of enjoying the pavilion. If you are pondering building something I would use Houston Deck and Shade. They were easy to work with, fast and efficient. Horrible company, Does the worst Deck jobs ive seen in the business and i havent even had work done by them. Just talking to the owner for a minute about possibly trying to work for them or even getting work from them, Resulted in me getting called a bunch of names and yelled at over the phone because of a simple misunderstanding in a message that his employee cant even read right. Loren and his crew took down and removed mess left from failed attempt by local handyman to build deck. Houston Deck and Shade did fabulous work building from my plan, a new super sturdy deck and with low rails and curves.
