Do they accept cash for rental fee?

Thanks for your interest in Houston BCycle! We do not offer a cash payment option, unfortunately. But if you have a prepaid credit card that would work.

I have heard about B Cycle and occasionally seen the bike racks in the downtown area but never had…read morea reason to use them. This past weekend I found a reason. I rented a bike from a stand next to City Hall to ride around the Buffalo Bayou area and some parts of downtown. This was such an easy process. You go up to the kiosk and touch the screen to wake the machine up. You purchase a 24 hour pass for $5 using a credit card. Then your first 60 minutes of rental is free. You can extend the free use of the bike by checking it back in to ANY kiosk before your original 60 minute period ends and then immediately checking it back out for a new 60 minute period. In other words by paying $5 for the 24 hour pass that can be your only cost to rent a bike. If you go over your 60 minute period they charge you $2 for every extra 30 minutes. Very affordable! The bikes come with a basket on the front to stow gear. They have 3 speeds and have an adjustable seat and attached bike lock. I found the seat to be adequate in comfort. The bike lock is very handy when you stop somewhere and want to secure your bike like I did when I had lunch. The brakes and gear shifts worked well also. On the bike is listed Houston B Cycles' customer service number to call if you have any questions or maintenance issues. I recommend downloading the B Cycle app on your smartphone. The app does many things to help with your rental. Primarily, it gives you the locations of every bike rack kiosk in your city as B Cycle is located in several cities in the US. Not only does it show you where every kiosk is located, it also shows you in real time how many bikes are available at that kiosk and also how many empty stalls are open for you to return your bike to. Remember you don't have to return your bike to the kiosk you rented it from BUT you have to return your bike to a kiosk that has an empty stall. That's where the app can really be helpful. Usually every kiosk will have an empty stall for you to return your bike. I give B Cycle 5 stars because it is so easy to use and so affordable. Whether you use it for pleasure or your personal transportation needs its convenience cannot be overstated.

Very, Very Disappointing Experience:…read more -1/17/21 rented 3 bikes from B-cycle Houston. -APP did not work on any of our three phones otherwise, we would have joined as "members". I was able to get to the section on pricing but could go no further. I do remember monthly membership is $13.00 (unlimited trips) and that the yearly membership is $79 (unlimited trips). -Rented 3 bikes around 1 pm. (1/17/21), returned them the next day around 10 am. (1/18/21). -On 1/18/21 checked my acct. and there were 3 charges for $3.24. -Checked my acct several days later and noticed a $278.64 and $150.00 charge from Houston Bike Share (713-865-3622). -It was the weekend but I called and left a message that I was concerned about the charges. Business hours are Monday through Friday and could not reach anyone. -Monday the 25th I called again and spoke to a young lady (cannot remember her name, but she did say she had gotten my message). -I asked her why I was charged those amounts ($278.64), she responded that I had the bikes for a very long time and that was the charge and that the bikes are only for short time (30 minutes) usage. -I asked her about the $150 charge and she told me it was because one of the bikes was stolen. I explained that we returned all 3 bikes and that I was just visiting Houston for the weekend and lived in Florida. -After explaining that I didn't steal one of their bikes, the pricing is very confusing, the APP didn't work, the displays at the kiosks were so scratched up that it was difficult to even see what was required to type in, the first two kiosks did not have dock numbers on them and we had to go to 3 different kiosks to rent the bikes because the first 2 didn't work (other people trying to rent bikes at these kiosks were having difficulties as well), she told me that she would speak to her supervisor. -When she returned she said that she didn't understand why I was confused about the pricing: "it is displayed on the kiosks and bikes" (the signage on all three of the kiosks was unintelligible or not visible), "you could have used the APP" (I explained again, that the APP did not work on any of our phones), "you could have called" (bikes were rented on a Sunday, business hours are M-F), or "you could have checked the website" (by the time we made it to the third kiosk, we were just happy that we were able to find a kiosk that worked by this time). -After listening to her give me all the options I could have pursued had I been thinking properly, I again disputed the charges. She told me that the charges are what they are and that I had signed the "company waiver" (?) and I was responsible for those charges. -I responded, "so basically there is nothing that can be done and, is it not possible for her to consider all a misunderstanding?" Her response was, "that's correct, nothing can be done and no flexibility". -I asked her again about the "stolen bike" charge and she said that the bike was never returned (which is incorrect, all 3 bikes were returned to the kiosk adjacent to the Common Bond in Montrose) so I would be charged for that as well. I told her that we returned all three bikes to the same kiosk and made sure that they were all locked in. -She told me that 1 of the bikes was not showing up in the system as returned so I was responsible for that charge as well. So, all in charge was $428.64 for three bikes for about 21-hours. If the APP had been working, we would have joined as members and paid $39 total. I take responsibility for not understanding the charges but, we returned all three bikes. I am a teacher, my brother is a commercial real estate developer and my sister-in-law is a very successful business owner. In no reasonable scenario would we have ever stolen one of the bikes...doesn't make any sense at all. As a visitor to Houston, I would have hoped that B-cycle would have been more understanding. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and this leaves a very bad taste in my mouth for a visit to your city that was otherwise delightful.

On the day of my rental the weather was very nice and demand was high. I might not have been able to get mine had I just walked up that day. Online rentals allow you paying half of the rental online and the other half when you pick it up or you can just pay the entire amount online. My 2 hour rental was $18 and when I arrived they were very busy with other customers but I didn't have to wait more than about 5 minutes for my bike to appear. They aired up the tires and gave me a helmet to wear. It was a nice black bike with 21 gears and a storage bag on the front handlebars. After adjusting the seat, I was ready to go. That day my group went 14 miles on the White Oak Bayou bike trail and the bike performed flawlessly. It never missed a gear change. My rental included a 30 minute grace period which I used in its entirety because of a late start and a drink break along the way. When I returned the bike they were very friendly and thanked me for the business. I couldn't have asked for more. They have other types of bikes to rent like cruisers that have much more comfortable seats, kid bikes, bicycles for two, etc. Check out the website. If you come down to Buffalo Bayou Park to bike and need a rental this is where you should come. While the Houston B Cycles are much cheaper (and may not be available to rent) there is a vast difference in quality between their 3 speed heavy bikes and what Bike Barn has to offer.

Oddly enough I think these are made by track, I get it they have to be heavy duty and heavy construction so they can last a long time but for me they were not fun to drive at all. I am not a fan of this bike. Do yourself a favor and just buy a legit bike and bring it with you. Also I remember back in the day these are like five dollars for the entire day now it's like three dollars for 30 minutes. Not a fan at all of their pricing because the bikes are just simply not fun to drive.

But Bcycle is such a well run operation. They work so hard and will do everything they can to assist your needs. I have called them to let them know I was overcharged before and they have adjusted my account. I have called them to request bikes for my guests because the station was out of bikes, they have sent a van with 3-4 more rentals. I have called and asked them to please reset the machine at the station because it wasn't functioning and they've done that as well. They are so professional and such a great team. Once I went to visit them I realized they have such a small crew handling the stations all over the city and doing all the operations, I was completely impressed! They are a non-profit organization and basically use the bike rental fees to keep up the bike maintenance etc. They are such a solid crew. I've also seen them working their booth at events and festivals. These guys deserve a raise for all do! There's electric bikes and art bikes now to bring some variety to the bike stations. It's one valuable way to positively impact our city towards cleaner air and becoming environmentally conscious. Houston is always behind but Bcycle is creating jobs and putting us one step in the right direction.

The drive on I-45 is boring, and flying takes as long as driving, despite the short flight, with the added hassle of security checks and delays. But have I ever considered taking the bus? Yes! I have researched some companies servicing that route, but I wasn't completely convinced about how safe, comfortable, and reliable they would be. I am grateful that my coworkers recommended Vonlane, a premium bus service that operates between Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. The service is top-notch, more comfortable than flying, and includes complimentary meals, drinks, and snacks. They have a fleet of luxury buses with amenities such as free wifi, a restroom, and spacious leather seats. The prices are comparable to cheap flights, but the experience is more "refined", more enjoyable, and certainly more productive, especially for business travel. In my two trips so far, I have had no complaints except for a delay caused by a faulty audio system, which coincided with street repairs in front of the Hyatt Regency in downtown Houston (Vonlane's terminal). Passengers had to wait in the Houston heat with no shade for 30 minutes, leaving us sweaty by the time we boarded the bus. Despite this inconvenience, overall, my experience with Vonlane has been great.
