I am very happy with this firm. Paul V completed a home inspection for me in Melville. I am very pleased with the work he did. I contacted Paul because he did an inspection on a house that I was selling in Dix Hills, and left his business card (good idea by the way). At that inspection he found things that I had no idea to even look for. I prepped that house so well that I was very impressed that he found these things. So, I knew I had to use him on the new place I bought. The inspection went perfectly. He explained how every system worked and answered all my questions. I was selling my home and the buyers requested a home inspection. Housemaster was recommended by their realtor. I was not at home at the time of inspection which I regret! The inspector didn't have any knowledge of the latest technology and proceeded to break various items in the house. GFI were broken due to jamming equipment into them. The biggest disappointment was that he broke the thermostat on the A/C . He just left it. When I returned three days later the house was hot and the A/C was off. As a result of his lack of knowledge I had to incur over $500 to get the A/C fixed before the buyers would close. It would appear he didn't have any training, didn't know what he was doing and consequently resulted in expenses I had to pay for 4 outside home contractors. I couldn't give a rating high enough to demonstrate how much I appreciate what this company did for my family. We hired them when we were building in a new subdivision. After speaking with current homeowners and listening to the obstacles they were facing regarding hasty and sloppy work, we contacted Housemaster Home Inspections. The inspectors were thorough, found many unattended issues, and promptly submitted their findings to the builder. We were so impressed that we hired Housemaster for the final walkthrough and when our solar was installed. Each visit, they uncovered shortcuts in construction that were potential problems down the road after any warranties would have long expired. The solar installation job they inspected and subsequent report prompted the solar company to send out another crew to mend and redo the entire job. read more

Mike Kuhn was unprofessional and unreliable in his inspection. He swept my backyard and then 5 years later when I went to sell my house a tank was found in the middle of my backyard. He refused to take responsibility for his service and was in denial. He was rude and disrespectful when he heard that a metal tank was found in my backyard and proceeded to then hang up on me. Would not recommend for quality service!! read more

They inspected our house and said there was no power to the dishwasher. The inspector failed to turn the power on. Inspector said bathroom sink stoppers not working. The inspector couldn't figure out that it has a safety lock and just a little twist unlocks it. Inspector say the pellet stove was too close to the window. He also said its not part of his inspection. He said it needs to be inspected by a qualified contractor, it was installed by a qualified installer. If you don't inspect them then don't make comments about them. The inspector said the electrical panel is full and needs a new one or an additional sub panel. The sub panel is right next to the mail panel, he couldn't figure that out. Items like this went on and on. read more

They did a home inspection for a listing of mine and COMPLETELY missed the broken drain line under the kitchen that flooded the crawl space. Then when i called them, they wanted me to fill out some form and wait for A WEEK FOR THEM TO GET BACK TO ME!!! I NEVER WILL USE THESE CLOWNS AGAIN!!! read more

Paul Ventra, came and inspected a house we were interested in - it looked pristine -until he found a very active carpenter ant infestation and saved us PLENTY of aggravation and money. I used this company as they were recommended by my realtor. They appeared to do a comprehensive job but failed to fill, test and drain the jacuzzi tub in the second floor master bathroom. The first time we used the tub the jacuzzi worked fine, however, when we drained the tub the water flooded our first floor kitchen and foyer. When contacted we were told to complete a form which, asked if we the homeowner and/or our realtor, checked this on our final walk through before closing. I had the repairs done ($500+) and asked HouseMaster if they would provide any compensation. I was informed that they had "no liability" in this matter. Since I had repairs done before they could view what caused the leak, my word and the word of a master plumber wasn't acceptable. I couldn't recommend this company that doesn't admit their mistake, accept responsibility for an inadequate job and provide reimbursement for repairs. My realtor asked that I submit a letter to her agency so it could be shared with all agents. read more

Overpriced low-quality inspection. I was recommended HouseMaster by my realtor and was disappointed with the quality of the evaluation by the assigned engineer. For a one story ranch (1,800 sq ft.) the inspection cost $700. The engineer incorrectly stated the number of shingle layers on the roof and the location of the oil tank. The engineer seemed to be in a rush (was on location for only an hour) and was not very personable. The online "in depth" report was mainly just pre-written standard recommendations that you can find elsewhere on the internet. Would highly recommend looking for other options. read more

We are first time home buyers and were referred to HouseMaster by two people so figured it was worth a call. On a Friday night after close of business, I was quickly connected to the owner Matt when I called the main number. He was extremely informative and super easy to deal with. I had an 8:30AM appointment for Monday in just a few minutes. They have a great e-mail based confirmation system which is great for people like myself that are always on the run. When it came time for the appointment, we were cautiously optimistic as we've heard about companies sending inspectors, not engineers. Not saying that a non-engineer couldn't do a great job but we felt more comfortable with an engineer. We've also heard that you could get a less than thorough inspector that can assess a roof from the driveway rather than getting up on a ladder. Najib was assigned for our inspection and he was awesome. A true engineer who went through every nook and cranny of the house. He explained everything that he observed and answered all of my questions. The inspection took just under two hours and about an hour later, I was e-mailed a detailed 59 page review filled with photos and all of the info I needed. I honestly didn't shop around for pricing but I felt that their pricing was very reasonable for the excellent quality of work that was provided. If asked for a referral for a friend, it would be a no brainer for me to send them over to HouseMaster. read more
