A Truly Exceptional Skilled Nursing Facility…read more Our family is incredibly grateful for the outstanding care my dad received at this skilled nursing facility. From the moment he arrived, it was clear that the staff genuinely care about their patients. Every nurse, CNA, therapist, and team member showed warmth, kindness, and a level of compassion that created a true healing environment. What really stood out is how committed they are to helping patients maintain a sense of normalcy and dignity. They encouraged my dad to keep a daily routine--waking up, getting dressed, and enjoying his meals in the dining room rather than staying isolated in his room. That structure made a remarkable difference in his overall mood and recovery. The activities they offer are wonderful and thoughtfully planned. From bingo and painting to live music and social events, they keep the residents engaged, active, and connected. It's clear they put their hearts into making each day meaningful. Bottom line: they go above and beyond. This is, without question, the best skilled nursing facility we have experienced. Our family cannot recommend them highly enough.

Bayshire was recommended by the VA Social Services for Rehabilitation after knee replacement…read moresurgery. Met with them twice, toured the facilities. In the second meeting I relayed that the surgeon and primary doctors recommended that I not go there because of a higher risk possibility of infection associated with hospitals and rehab facilities. I told them that the surgery was being done on an outpatient basis and that the surgeon wanted me out that day or the next day. On the morning of the surgery I called to make sure that I had a room available and was told for the first time that Medicare would only start after three days of being in the hospital. I was appalled and said why was this not mentioned before, because this disqualified me from using their facilities. All I got was that the hospital knew that. I said what about me? Why did they fail to mention this in our conversations. The surgery was cancelled while we now look rebook the surgery and look for a suitable place to rehab. NOT GOOD for me or my knee. Not good for the scuttled surgery team.

My family feels so fortunate to have my mother staying at Ridgeview Memory Care during this difficult time of her life. Call button for assistance wasn't working (and never checked) Lack of communication between the doctors and staff - caused a handful more "falls" that should have happened. Promises of "checking on my dad every 2 hours" were ignored and not ever implemented. 2 of us were there everyday and still could not get the quality of care and dignity that my dad deserved and needed. We were lied to daily and staffing numbers were under the mandated requirements. I would not put my worst enemy in Ridgeview. Be very vigilant before putting your loved one here.

When my husband arrived at The Shores, he had been turned down by 3 skilled nursing facilities…read more(SNF). Although they didn't say it out loud, we became aware that my husband was rejected because he required an extreme amount of time and resources to meet his needs. These SNFs were not willing to provide this level of care. Marionne, the head administrator at the Shores, gave us a chance. Even though we required more help than was available, Marionne made sure we had the resources we needed. I met Connie, the social worker, on the second day of my husband's stay. I had a very long list of things that my husband needed to survive his stay at any facility. As I expressed our needs, I expected Connie to lose interest and turn away. She did just the opposite. She took out a notebook and wrote down all that I needed. It was ALL accomplished the next day! Throughout our stay I would e-mail Connie concerns in the evening...things that my husband had confided to me. Almost always I would see the result the following day!!!!! Besides the administrative staff we encountered an OUTSTANDING nurse named Gigi. If we ever had a question or concern, we knew who to call!!! Last but not least, Elmer our CNA was a master at using the Hoyer lift!!! He would easily lift my husband and reposition him in half the time it took many others. Marionne once told me that they were not perfect . All I can say is if you have people like those mentioned who take pride in their work as these people do, you may not be perfect, but you are well on your way to getting there!

Rating: (Zero stars if I could) DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED…read moreONES HERE - AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE I am writing this on behalf of a close friend who was recently housed at Balboa Skilled Nursing Center. They were terrified to speak up while they were still a resident, so I am posting this now that they have finally been discharged. People need to be warned. Toxic Leadership & Chronic Understaffing The culture here starts at the top and it is completely broken. Throughout my friend's stay, the staff were constantly complaining about being dangerously understaffed. They explicitly blamed the Director, Megan, for the lack of help and the miserable working conditions. We noticed an alarmingly high turnover rate; it seems like all the "good" people--the ones who actually care--are fleeing this place as fast as they can. When the people responsible for care are this miserable and unsupported by management, the patients are the ones who suffer. Disgusting Conditions & Neglect The facility itself is a disaster: * Filthy Environment: The building is consistently filthy and feels like it's perpetually "under repair," yet nothing ever actually gets fixed. * Garbage Food: The food is absolutely inedible. Calling it "garbage" is an insult to garbage. * Safety Concerns: It appears the facility is being used to house a large population of homeless individuals and those with severe, unmanaged mental health issues. The staff is clearly not equipped or trained to handle this demographic safely alongside elderly patients. The Medical Staff: A Tale of Two Sides The nurses (RNs and LPNs) are a total nightmare. They are some of the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. They are rude, condescending, and treat patients like an inconvenience. * Zero Communication: Ask a simple question about medication and you'll get a snarky comment or a heavy sigh. * Negligence: They spend the majority of their shifts gossiping at the nursing station while call lights go unanswered. Their lack of empathy is chilling. The only reason this place functions at all is because of the CNAs. They are hardworking and compassionate, but they are being run into the ground. They are doing all the heavy lifting with a smile while the nurses and management (Megan) fail them at every turn. Final Verdict Do not be fooled by any "care" they claim to provide. Between the toxic management, the revolving door of staff, the filth, and the dismissive nurses, Balboa is a dangerous place for anyone you care about. Go anywhere else.

I'm not sure who wrote the reviews but they were far from our experience. This place is like something you'd see on a hidden camera expose, that you couldn't believe was true. From the minute we were shown to what would be his room, until we left without even registering I felt there was no way I'd leave even someone I despised here, much less a loved one. While the staff seemed polite and kind enough, that's where it ended. This place looks rundown at best, unclean and dilapidated. The people there appeared to be neglected, but that was just from my visual experience, I cannot attest to it. Everything in there looked old and unkempt. Beds were old, as was bedding and curtains. Paint chipped off of the walls in large spots, bathrooms small and rundown. I questioned the case worker who had sent us here and it was confirmed they do not vet these facilities before recommending them. We were not even given an option for out of pocket pricing, so I have no idea how much they charge your insurance. Truly a nightmare experience. They were kind enough to let us borrow a wheelchair to get my husband into our car so I could take him home and care for him there for the few days he needed. Do NOT even consider this place. Just check it off the list and drive on by.

She stayed in an acute care hospital for one week and was transferred to Paradise Valley Manor and Health Care Center in National City, CA, to get her strength back before she was able to go home and be independent once again. Upon arrival, we marveled at how neat, clean, and beautifully appointed the facility was inside. The two ladies at the front desk, Sandra and Karina, couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. The various staff members greeted my precious Mama with smiles and compassion and were all so very kind. The Administrator, Aaron Burrup, came in and introduced himself. He shook her hand and made her feel right at home. Amanda, from Admissions, made sure she was comfortable in her room. Her Charge Nurses, Megan, Judy, Edwin, Marisol, and Mila were very helpful and accommodating and worked with us as we shared our concerns. Faye, Karina, and Utzhi, her attentive medication nurses, made certain they continued her regular medicinal regime and if she had a special need, immediately got Doctors orders to help her with whatever arose. Her CNA's were outstanding. Esmer, Cita, Vilma, Cynthia, and Edwina treated my sweet Mom with the same love and compassion they would treat their own Mothers. They would greet her with cheerful smiles and warm hellos many times every day. They sang to her, helped her with her daily personal needs, tenderly helped her shower, neatened her room, and made her laugh. How important these things are when you are yearning to be home to be with your family. They truly become a lifeline. The housekeepers were amazing at keeping everything neat and clean. I never smelled urine or any other unpleasant odors the entire time my Mom was a patient in this facility. Her Physical Therapist, Rayne, was extraordinary. Whereas upon arrival, my Mom was so weak and dreaded therapy, Rayne encouraged her and cheered her on as she worked hard and built up her strength. He gave her the support and fortification she needed and taught her skills she will use the rest of her life. Her Occupational Therapist, Lauren, was so patient and thoughtful as she shared her expertise with my Mom so she could eventually go home and live independently again. These two Therapists infused their strength into my Mom and are the reason she is so much stronger now. With the collaboration of this hard-working, dedicated team, my darling Mama was able to go home today in better shape than before her illness. They provided excellent care for her, both physically and emotionally. Our family is extremely grateful and appreciative to the entire Staff of Paradise Valley Manor and Health Care Center.
