Alex Tusun is a highly rated Coach and Personal Trainer…read more My experience with personal training from Alex Tuson was phenomenal. After struggling with shoulder issues and a severe neck injury, I had made it my goal to get back to a level in which I could start performing pull-ups again. I decided on personal training to help me get there and reached out to Alex as to the type of training needed to start the pull-up complexes again. Alex was very professional and laid out a solid plan as to what he could help with me with not only to perform pull-ups again but how his style of personal training would also assist me in preventing injuries. I really liked the plan Alex had laid out for me and we found dates and times that worked for both of us and decided to move forward with an initial 10 PT sessions. As luck would have it, roughly three weeks before my training was to start, I strained ligaments in my left wrist. The doctor told me it would be 8-12 weeks to recover from this injury. I let Alex know what was going on and he changed up the program to include rehab and strengthening of my wrist and to add strength to help with pull-ups once the wrist was better. Initially we had agreed on 10 sessions but added six more to focus on pull-ups. We worked together two days week while I was not travelling for work and over time my wrist recovered and got stronger. When the ten sessions were complete, my wrist was in recovery and feeling much better. Over the next once a week six sessions we focused on pull-ups and strength. Once the wrist had improved I was able to perform kipping pullups. By the end of the sessions, I was up to fifteen kipping pull-ups. My body overall had become stronger and the weaker injury prone areas had improved as well. Alex had delivered and my body had cooperated. Alex is a very caring and passionate person and trainer who really knows his craft and how to help people overcome injuries and make overall improvements in their fitness and their techniques. Alex is an asset to the Cristini Athletics family, and I highly recommend him as a person and as a personal trainer.

I've been doing CrossFit for a number of years now. During that time, I've learned an array of new…read moreskills, made a bunch of friends, and visited a handful of CrossFit gyms/boxes. I'm not going to make wild statements like "CrossFit Markham is the greatest gym that has ever been", but I will make strong statements like "CrossFit Markham is an excellent gym, with fantastic coaches, a healthy selection of equipment, space, friendly members, and a whole lot of sweat." CFM is just now reaching its tenth year. The Cristini family originally opened the gym in a much smaller space, but over time they out grew it and moved to north Markham, just shy of Major Mackenzie on Markham Road. They also eventually added a sister gym a little while west in Woodbridge; Reebok CrossFit East Woodbridge. Like I alluded to, the gym has plenty of space. Enough space so that once you're a member, there is no need to sign up for classes ahead of time, or register for Open gym. Just show up with your game face and shoes. Equipment wise, they've got just about everything you can reasonably ask for and then some. Some less common items include atlas stones, a handstand walk ramp and stairs, a peg board (that hasn't been set up yet), AirRunners, and a ski erg. As far as the coaching goes, these guys know their stuff. Sure, you can expect owners and CrossFit Games athletes Steve and Chris to know a thing or two, but across the board, the coaches have a good foundation of knowledge, and each of them carries expertise in some area. But what good is knowledge without the ability to communicate? Not so good. Thankfully, that's no issue with these guys and gals :) I'm happy to train at CFM, and looking forward to continuing. Aside from the regular, annoying CrossFit fee, these guys don't attempt to pressure you to buy into extras, and they're passionate about getting people fit, and keeping them fit. Give a couple classes a shot if you get a chance. Maybe CrossFit and CFM are for you.

It's located on the second floor of the building and once you up the stairs you turn left for the reformer pilates, I believe there's other rooms for other classes on the right. I was greeted by the reception and had to sign a waiver form. You also have to wear pilates socks at this location during your exercises but if you don't have any, they have some for purchase at their studio. Once you walk into the room/ class you're expected to leave all your belongings like purses, wallets and phones at their cubbies since it's a no phone zone when the class is in session. Since I picked an introductory class, the instructor talked us through how to use the reformers and what to expect. During the class, I thought it'd be more useful if the instructor actually showed us how to do certain moves herself so we had a visual, rather than just talking us through the steps. As beginners, it would've been a lot more helpful. Knowing that this was a introductory class, I didn't expect to be sweating and be super sore the next day - which I wasn't. But I definitely felt some muscles being activated that I don't usually target. Overall, it was a great experience and I went back a couple more times after that. Take the introductory class as it really helped with understanding how to use the reformer and how the movements should feel.
