I had a chance to pop into CrossFit Alter during my weekend stay in Oklahoma City. This was one of…read morethe ONLY boxes that was open on Sundays - great perk for the weekend traveler! The Sunday Open Gym trainer on site, Scott, was friendly, welcoming, and actually willing to jump into a workout with me. We did the partner WOD they'd posted from the day before. The programming was beautifully brutal! Definitely the perfect medicine for a weekend away form my home box. In the short time I was at the gym, I could tell that the owners and trainers care about their members, welcome visitors, and are great advocates of the CrossFit community. They encourage their members to have clear goals and the coaches participate in continued learning classes. This is a budding box that is definitely worth a visit when you are in town!

I had done some crossfit in 2011, but not at a set gym. When I arrived I noticed that there are people of all types of fitness levels. This was comforting since; I'm not in the best shape, but not in the worst shape. I am motivated by all types. I've been attending the 0545 class and it's been great! I ended my trial period and signed up. I loaded the app wodify and now I can check in to the class prior and check what the wod is. I love the accountability and the challenge of logging my workouts. There is a dashboard on the app which allows all gym members to see your results. It also gives me a little star for my top performance.

If you've paid much attention to the fitness scene over the past few years you've probably heard of…read more"CrossFit" training. Definition according to Wikipedia is as follows: CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, and rowing.[1] CrossFit contends that a person is as fit as they are proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy.[2] It defines fitness as "increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains."[3] The CrossFit program consists of "constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement."[4] I was recently exposed to the CrossFit training style at CrossFit405 in downtown OKC. And let me tell you, if you've grown tired of the commercial gym seen and are looking to be challenged to improve your fitness in a constructive, supportive, and motivating environment then you should drop by CrossFit405 and just watch a workout. Training sessions consist mainly of group workouts, of roughly 10-15 people per class, in which a coach for the workout will lead the team through the movements of the day. Classes are typically Monday through Friday w/ an AM, Noon, 430, 530, 630 pm, with an open gym period for practicing specifics movements on the weekends. If you aren't accustomed to the training modalities listed, have no fear, you will not be looked down upon or ridiculed for it, but rather steered toward what is called the "on-ramp" class. This class is structured to introduce the uninitiated to the movements that compose many of the workouts that make up the CrossFit training style. It takes place in a low-key environment, and the coaches spend time focusing on the basics of the movements and insuring that each individual can execute them safely and effectively. However, if you're accustomed to running/rowing/sprinting/plyometrics/free weight training/Olympic style lifting/gymnastics/ and other bad assery then they'll let you fall right into the next pain fest! Overall, I have had a blast training here over the past month. And again, if you are looking to be challenged then look no further. It's the most fun you'll have suffering at the working end of a barbell, jump rope, rowing machine, etc that you've ever had!!!

I was visiting OKC to see Family over the new year and dropped-in to CrossFit 405. I emailed them…read moreand received a prompt response about how to drop in and what was expected. I showed up early the next day and was greeted by a very friendly coach named, Karen. I took the noon class and all the athletes were very friendly and the coaching was great. They have clean bathrooms, a separate locker room to store your things, and showers. The gym is big and has all the equipment you could ask for. There's a reasonable drop in fee, or you can buy a t-shirt. The head coach worked out with us at the noon class and even gave us a lift to the local Lululemon! Super awesome staff and you can tell they have a great community. If you're passing through OKC...this is the gym to go to. If you live in the city...get a membership here..if they have contracts, sign one for a year. This place kicks ass.

I truly cannot say enough about how much I love RDCF! I've been a member for a little over a year…read moreand a half now and have no plans on letting them get rid of me any time soon. Yes, the wods are tough and challenging. They definitely deliver on a well needed ass kicking every now and then. But what I love the most about RDCF is the community. Everyone is always warmly welcomed and we all quickly become like family. The coaches are all incredible as well. Every workout, no matter who is coaching, they show how much they care about everyone there. They put the time in to challenge you, help you achieve your goals but also keep you safe. Learning form is so important here and the coaches are beyond awesome at helping you improve if you're willing to put the work in. They help cater the workouts to meet whatever fitness level you're at to make sure you get the most out of your workout while also staying safe. I remember being terrified to walk in the door my first time. Being a petite woman with little fitness experience, I was so scared that I was walking into a class full of monster gym rats. I was completely wrong. There are of course some very fit people that attend and are amazingly inspiring but mostly, we're your everyday people coming in from all walks of life and ages just looking to better ourselves and stay healthy. If you're on the fence, take it from me and give it a chance!!
