The night I stayed with the empty parking lot

Review for Zazz Hotel - Albuquerque, NM (Route 66) 1 out of 5 stars Let me start by saying this review is not meant to offend -- it's written from a place of honesty and constructive criticism. I genuinely hope the owners and management take the time to read this and use the feedback to improve the guest experience. First impressions of Zazz are promising -- the exterior layout around the pool is well-designed, and the overall vibe of the place is artistic and creative. The speakeasy bar was a definite highlight for me -- well done there. That said, there are some basic standards that every hotel, no matter how trendy or boutique, needs to meet -- and cleanliness and professionalism are at the top of that list. Check-in Experience: The check-in process took significantly longer than it should have. I had already paid, but there were delays in processing the security deposit. The front desk attendant appeared to be new and had difficulty getting the card reader to work, trying multiple times. I understand new employees need time to adjust -- but they should be trained and supported so guests don't feel like test subjects. A smoother check-in would've set a much better tone. Room Cleanliness: While the room initially looked nice, several cleanliness issues were hard to overlook: * A cup left out with water in it (next to two new ones) * Hair and what looked like mints left in the sink * Towels and even pillows with visible stains * The shower also didn't feel fully cleaned I don't expect luxury everywhere I go -- but cleanliness is non-negotiable, no matter the price point or aesthetics. Even an older property can feel comfortable and welcoming if it's thoroughly cleaned and well-maintained. Room Functionality: Our fridge didn't stay cold, and the temperature control knob was missing, making it impossible to adjust. Because of this, our ice packs thawed before we left -- a minor detail maybe, but frustrating when traveling. Parking Issues: I was charged for parking at check-in, which I accepted. However, at checkout, the staff said they would refund the parking, yet I was charged a second time instead. Since returning home, I've called twice and spoken to two different people (both new employees), and still haven't received a call back from the manager or owner. It's disappointing that no one has followed up to correct the error. Also -- this is just my opinion -- but charging guests for parking at a hotel they're already staying at feels a bit excessive. The lot should prioritize hotel guests. I understand the area isn't under your control, but your parking policy is. Overall Staff & Management: I encountered at least three new employees -- two on the phone and one checking me out. The first front desk person didn't say she was new, but her inexperience showed. If your team is still learning, they need more support and oversight, not less. Final Thoughts: This place has potential -- cool aesthetic, great layout, and the speakeasy was excellent -- but the basics aren't being handled properly. Right now, it feels more like a party project than a professionally run business. Again, I don't write this out of spite. I write it because I want to see this place succeed. Please take these comments seriously -- not personally -- and use them as fuel to improve. A little more attention to training, communication, and cleanliness would go a long way. I truly hope next time I come through Route 66, Zazz will be the kind of place I'm proud to recommend.

Ryan and I had a very fun and pleasant stay at Hotel Zazz. Everyone here so very invested in making the place nice, and is also open to ideas and ways to make the place continue to grow and be such a beaming light for the community. If you want to see more video as well I (not a paid ad) had such a nice experience I decided to share about my experience and made this place part of my who's who wednesdays. Anyways it's so colorful and fun. The bar is unique and we were well taken care of. The cocktails were the way I like them delicious strong and made to perfection! The music was boppin and it was overall a great vibe. The spa was the best one I've ever been to in my life. Incredibly relaxing and the owner of the spa was so sweet kind and helpful in every way. I also think she's very well priced! And you even get a discount when you stay at the hotel! The pool area is so cute it's giving love island vibes in the best way. They really go out of their way to make things special here for you. I also got coffee the next morning here in the bar. When I was here they were just testing this out and the manager of the bar was so cool and I shared some ideas with her and she even took notes! They really love what they do here and it shows. Ps the latte was perfection. I took more video than I did photos but here's a few photos and when it allows me to add video I'll do that too. In the meantime check out my Instagram video on Hotel Zazz! A women owned business continuing to rise - oh and highlighting this is right on Route 66 and I was able to walk to so many places from here and there's a lightrail too if you want to venture out! Highly recommend !

I booked this on the faith of reviews. They held sure. For the money, this place exceeded expectations. Attention to detail. I'm a fan of the arts. This place exudes art from every angle with murals, decor, colorful walls and floors. The room was very clean. The beds were very comfortable with lots of pillows and a big purple "prop up and watch tv" pillow. The curtains allow you to black out the light. The tv station default looped a recording from the owners with some context to the art and direction of the property. There are so many details to create joy. They curate the soap, tea, lotion, and more. Surprises for me included the speakeasy and hydration lounge. The only bit I have is the plumbing - the shower backed up in our room. I realize the plumbing is old - so I'll be graceful. That and the door couldn't close easily. Other than that, I recommend this for families, couples, single travelers, and more.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and I'm really disappointed to have to leave a negative review. My husband, kids and I stayed at this hotel. It's obviously older and it isn't the most clean place but the bedding was clean and it was mostly just old. But we really liked the environment and the staff was just so friendly. Our experience was really great. I checked out of the hotel in the next day we got our full incidental back and we didn't give it much thought until three days later we got a charge for $160 with no explanation as to why. It took me several phone calls to finally get a hold of somebody who would look into it. The best explanation I got was it was due to the condition of the room. This left us confused because the only thing we could think of was there were crackers on the floor from our kids. Outside of just needing to be vacuumed there were no damage smoke or missing items. They couldn't tell me any further and offered very little empathy. They just said to try back later when the manager was in to get more information. Still have not received any email with my receipt as to what I was charged for. Normally, when you receive your incidental, your transaction with that hotel is complete. Why it took them three days to charge me, and with no receipt or explanation - we have no idea. All we know is while we had a great time at this hotel, we will not be back since this is kind of shady behavior.

Hotel Zazz should be called a Motel not a hotel. It has seedy written all over it, like rent by the hour seedy. The attached pic is of the dirty moldy air fan / AC in the room, the moment we turned it on we became wheezy... disgusted. I had to ask 3 times to just get 1 toilet roll, and was about to go next door to the gas station to buy one, but the homeless street people made my girl too scared to do so. She was walking by herself out of the hotel and a man in a car tried to shove her in! Definitely not a safe area. No breakfast or restaurant on site. Bathroom sink drain superslow, dirty, no extractor fan, tons of traffic noise, party noise late into the night disturbing sleep. Oh and read the contract carefully - I didn't (my bad) and they never discussed verbally with me that there was a $12/night fee to park and when I brought this up with Sharmin she had the audacity to tell me that her staff had already told her I was a "problem customer" (for asking for toilet roll) and that I was threatening her, by stating the fact that I didn't realize to park included a fee agreement of $12/night. So rude. So ridiculous. Oh and then my girl accidentally left a powerbank plugged in charging on the wall, and they claimed they didn't find it ie they stole it. The pool is super dirty, slimey, gum on furniture, skin felt so gross after but the room showers are also dirty so one couldn't even clean off. Unhomed people stare and gawk in from the street and it's totally gross. There's no breakfast nor tea/coffee and the keurigs in the room haven't been cleaned in, like ever. There's place across the street is ok "Farmacy" for breakfast but it only opens at 8 fyi. Do NOT stay here is my recommendation!

What a cute hotel. We stayed on night and it was such a cute little hotel. All the added perks like the speak easy and the hydration station added to the fun. Will definitely stay again.

    Fancy lobby.

I've stayed here a few times since my first visit and it really is a great spot for an overnight staycation. The rooms are cute, clean, and comfortable, the showers and included toiletries are nice, it's convenient to buses and in easy walking distance to a nice selection of places to eat, drink, or hit a dispensary.

Affordable and Comfortable Stay Near Old Town Albuquerque - With a Few Caveats…read more We stayed at Sandia Peak Inn - Old Town ABQ (a Howard Johnson by Wyndham), and I'll start by saying this: the price was definitely right. While it's not a luxury hotel, we more than got our money's worth, and I'll give an honest, balanced review. One of the main reasons we chose this property was the availability of EV charging. They offer both a J1772 and a Tesla destination charger, with a $10 nightly fee to use them. That was a great convenience and worked without issue. We booked the accessible oversized king room, which was very spacious, nicely decorated, and included a comfortable bed. We thought it had a sofa but found a day bed instead. The room also featured a small work table and a nice easy chair--well equipped for a short stay. The parking lot is tight, with narrow spaces and limited room, but our reserved EV charging spot helped avoid problems. Breakfast was modest but acceptable. There was a waffle maker, juice machine, coffee, peanut butter (the only visible protein), various breads, jams, and some overripe bananas. Vegetarian-friendly, but not very filling. One downside we experienced was related to smoking. Although our room was non-smoking, the moment I stepped outside in the morning, someone was smoking nearby. While I don't know how frequent this is, it would be preferable if the property were entirely smoke-free, especially near room entrances. The neighborhood felt like classic Old Town Albuquerque. I didn't feel unsafe, but I wouldn't recommend walking the area late at night. The exterior of the property has been nicely styled with Southwestern décor, which adds charm despite the budget-conscious operations. In short: everything wasn't perfect, but it all worked--and for the price, we walked away satisfied.

The front desk attendant was very nice and offered me some Halloween candy after I got my room key. As I walked to my room I noticed that the room doors were painted white and the scuff marks from luggage hitting the doors were noticeable. The room was nice and had a separate living room, small kitchen, and decent sized couch. The bed was king sized, comfy, and plenty of pillows. My pups likes his pillows. This is a nice hotel, but you can tell it's tailored towards the blue collar individuals who work hard and has long stays. I didn't try the complimentary breakfast served at 6 am to 9 am even though I was up and walking the dog but I did get a coffee and it was good. I did utilize the gym and it was really nice! It had plenty of weights and several new treadmills with TV's attached, and cycle machines. They also had a full sized pool if you wanted to do swimming laps. I'm giving this a 4 star based off the gym, front desk attendant kindness, and room cleanliness. If they repainted the scuffed doors the score could go higher. This was a good stop and if you need a rest stay here.

The property itself is beautiful and expansive, sits on Tamayame land, and at the outset of the conference a member of the Native American tribe welcomed us and shared about the land and setting. The property has with multiple event spaces, an on-site trail, a large gym, and several pools. It is a fairly large resort (our room was at one end, so it was about a 7-10 minute walk to the main lobby area). Each day began with a large breakfast buffet, and lunch was similarly well done. One of the highlights was being able to sit outside during meals at large tables overlooking the grounds, mountains, trees, and fresh air made for a really peaceful setting. For breakfast, I enjoyed the red/green chilies chilaquiles (New Mexican style breakfast), it was very flavorful and I enjoyed trying but was very spicy/heavy. From a conference and events perspective, the resort is very impressive. There is a large main conference room with a stage, and the room can accommodate over 100 people (at round tables), along with many smaller breakout rooms. Over two evenings, we attended events at different venues on the property, one about a 10-minute walk away (with hotel mini-bus transportation available), and another closer to the main area under a tent. The more distant venue was quite large and set apart, likely used for weddings and larger celebrations. That evening included a buffet dinner, DJ, dancing, and multiple bar setups. The second evening closer to the main hotel was a seated dinner under a tent, with music and performances in a more contained setting. There is also a nice bar and restaurant in the lobby, as well as another more casual restaurant by the pool. Given time constraints, I was not able to fully take advantage of all the amenities (including the spa, horseback riding, and longer trail walks), but I would absolutely recommend this property. Located about 30 minutes north of Albuquerque and 45 minutes south of Santa Fe, made it easy to spend time in either. We were able to check in early, which was so nice after an early travel morning. Our room was large and included the classic hotel amenities, including waters. We were staying slightly during the off season, so two pools were open, which was fine as it wasn't that busy and it didn't get hot until about noon. Due to the location of the resort, it is easiest to eat at the property and there are a couple of options available: The Corn Maiden - nicer dining experience, Santa Ana Cafe - casual sit-down, Rio Grande Lounge - bar and bites, and Plaza - pool cafe. During our visit the Plaza pool restaurant was only open on Saturday. We tried in-room dining for breakfast one morning, as we were up early, the eggs had little to no flavor, and a couple of our items were forgotten/late. Not a huge deal as we understood they were training a lot of staff during the time of our stay. Overall, the food throughout all the dining options was just okay, and if there were more dining options close by, I would probably go there. The restaurants all tasted the same and there didn't seem to be much variety. It would be nice if at least one of the dining options was a different kind of cuisine to bring some variety. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, the staff was so friendly and helpful. There are plenty of activities to do at the resort and we loved that they had nightly s'mores. On a busy convention night, the dining room was packed, yet the energy felt festive rather than frantic. Thanks to a well-timed reservation, my party settled in comfortably despite the initial blast of aggressive air-conditioning--a smart move after last week's heat, though the growing crowd of happy diners soon brought the room to a more pleasant temperature. Service was excellent from the start. We were warmly greeted by the hostess, a supervisor, and our server, setting a tone of genuine care that never wavered. The pacing was near-perfect: attentive without hovering, with drinks refreshed proactively and plates cleared at just the right moments. To begin, I ordered the green chile beef stew. It arrived promptly, hot and deeply flavorful, with tender beef and that signature New Mexican green chile heat that lingers just enough to wake up the palate. For my birthday libation, the S'mores Old Fashioned was a delightful twist--smoky, sweet, and dangerously smooth. The entrées showed Char's Southwestern strengths. The enchiladas were deeply comforting, while the carne asada arrived perfectly grilled with robust flavor. Both were elevated by the bright, creamy Mexican Street Corn on the side--charred kernels, cotija, and a hint of lime that cut through the richness beautifully. We closed the evening with the new arroz con leche from the updated dessert menu. Warm, cinnamon-kissed rice pudding topped with a generous scoop of cinnamon ice cream proved to be the ideal sweet finale--comforting yet refined, with contrasting temperatures that made every bite exciting. From the thoughtful service to the consistent execution of both classics and new offerings, Char once again proved why it's a go-to spot for special occasions. If you're in Albuquerque and want elevated NM dining, Char meets the need.

We pulled up to the front entrance where a sign clearly said Check-In Parking, yet were told we could not leave the car and had to valet or park in the garage. We weren't even allowed to step inside to check in, which made things unnecessarily awkward. As we just wanted to check in run a grab a bite to eat down the street as we just drove 7 hours. The hotel itself is very nice and interesting -- it's one of the first Hilton hotels built from the ground up, which is pretty cool. The room was a highlight. Spacious, clean, and well designed with a beautiful large soaking tub, separate shower, and a great layout overall. Morning coffee service was disappointing 2 of they days we stayed -- coffee was out then tea was missing the next, and no water bottles were replaced in our room after housekeeping, so we couldn't make our own in theroom. Dinner at Char did not meet expectations, especially for the price. Our medium-rare steaks came out well done, and although we mentioned it, nothing was done to fix it. We had a party there a couple nights later and it was buffet style. Our steak was way better in that and I hate buffets. That said, Jarod at the bar was great we had a few drinks with him through the nights we stayed and he was out bartender at the party we hosted he was one of the highlights of the staff that we came across. Lastly, the surrounding area felt pretty sketchy at night. Some positives, but enough frustrations that it impacted our stay.

This hotel was well located for me and my son when we were in Albuquerque last month for a service…read more The staff were friendly. The rooms were clean and seemed fairly newly updated. Because the service we attended was later in the afternoon on a Saturday, they were kind enough to give us an extra late checkout so we could change there and head out without having to wander around and find a place to change closer to the service. I very much appreciated that kindness! Their free breakfast was nice. I preferred the sausage over their bacon. They also had good breakfast tea. They didn't have any non dairy milk but they did have vanilla non dairy creamer packets. It is also well located next to Green Jeans, an indoor/outdoor food court, so we walked over there to meet a local friend for lunch one of the days we were there. The mountain views were lovely from outside of the hotel. Their big sign was broken/torn and their gym equipment needed to be updated or fixed. I think one of the treadmills was broken but luckily no one else was there so I was able to use the one working one. I was advised not to walk outside in the morning by myself due to safety reasons so I was glad to have the treadmill accessible for one day. Another friend picked me up another morning to drive us to a trail area for more scenic and safe walking.

I really like that parking is included and not an extra charge like some hotels. We were located near a Target and lots of restaurants as well. Our room was located on the 12th floor and it was busy as the last ever Gathering of Nations was taking place at the fairgrounds. The employees whom helped us were very nice and efficient and checked up on us with a phone call once we got settled in our room. As for the room itself, it was perfect for what we needed. We had a great view of the city. The only cons we had was the HVAC system was not working properly. The room was very stuffy and no matter what temp we lowered it to (went all the way down to 60) the A/C did not kick in). The fan was working but not blowing any cold air (the hallway's A/C was working). I reported it to the front desk upon check out. The other item was the shower's knobs were located on the opposite side of the shower head and I had never seen that before. It was very awkward as the glass sliding door does not open on the side with the shower head. I felt that it was unsafe as you turn on the water but cannot feel the temp of the water cause it is on the other side. Overall, stay was good and it was pretty quiet other than hearing a couple of guests out in the hallway. I would stay here again if in the area.

Only to check in to my room to find one bed and a couch. Talk to the front desk who claim they had a request for a single bed on my reservation. Why would I pay extra for 2 beds to end up asking for 1? Then they say it's because I chose "first come first serve" at check in. What does that even mean? Why wouldn't I get the room I RESERVED? Then they offer a rollaway bed. No apology, acknowledgement of the mess up, or offer for reimbursement of the difference in price. I said I'd prefer a room with the 2 beds I paid for as I had my 4 month old son and my 63 year old mother. They said they were sold out, which means they sold my 2 bed room to someone else. Then they say they can't refund me because I booked through a 3rd party and would have to go through them. So I did. They had to contact the hotel on my behalf and the supervisor offered restaurant vouchers... Which I didn't take. Still no apology or acknowledgement of the mess up and no real solution. I won't name his name, but the guy that checked me in and that I talked to about the issue was completely unhelpful, unfriendly, and could not have cared less at what was going on. Not to mention 3 of the 4 elevators were malfunctioning/not operating at check in during an extremely busy weekend, and our AC unit barely kept the room cool enough to not sweat when turned all the way on high at the lowest temperature. Definitely will never stay here again when there is a Hilton and Sheraton right up the street. I do not recommend, at all. Also adding to this that I discovered I have a $32 charge on my card from them when I purchased nothing there and only gave my card for the deposit. Just an awful ran hotel.
