Let me start by saying that I do not normally write a lot of reviews (you can see that from my profile here), and when I do write reviews on any platform I generally only write positive reviews about positive experiences I've had. If I don't care for a place, I usually just close the door and move on. Not this time. Our stay at Hotel Vernon was one of the worst experiences I have ever had, anywhere. Read on if you want the details, if not, just know we do NOT recommend this motel. My sister and I are traveling by car across country, and trying to keep our costs in check. We decided we would stay the night in Vernon, Texas because of the distance to our next stop. Based on reviews and an article on Trip Advisor, we booked a room through Expedia. (The trip was booked under my sister Jennifer's name, so Hotel Vernon, don't try to deny we are real customers) We got in VERY late from driving all day, and checked in. All fine. Room was clean, though most of the furniture was very chippy and worn. Whatever, it was clean. We planned to not get up super early because we had another full day of driving ahead of us, and needed to sleep. We are not 'spring chickens,' we need our sleep! At 9am, the maid BANGED on the door, OPENED the door (but could not get in because we had the top latch latched!), yelling "Housekeeping!!" I was totally asleep, but woke up, startled, and yelled back, "We're not ready yet!" We got up, granted moving pretty slowly, and made coffee, etc. At about 10:50am, two men (one older, one younger) loudly banged on the door, OPENED the door (thank goodness we had that top security latch latched -AGAIN) and started YELLING, in a threatening manner, "What's going on?? Are you leaving?? My maid has been waiting for a half an hour to clean your room!" (Check out is 11am, she had not been waiting a half an hour already to clean our room) My sister was near the door and replied, "We're not quite ready yet!" "Well when you be ready??" "In about 30 minutes" "No! I'll give you 10 minutes!" "Well we won't be ready!" "Then you have to pay for another night!!" "Okay, fine, we'll pay for another night! Let me get my card" She brought her card to the door, but they had already left. We thought, okay... They came back, yelling again, treating us like we were squatters, and by then my sister was in the bathroom. They were yelling that we needed to pay or leave, and I brought the card to the door and handed it to the younger man, saying "We said we were paying for another night, here is the card!" I passed it to them, and closed the door. The young man brought it back in a couple minutes. We finished packing, and loaded up the car. Right before we left, I brought the room key to the office. The only person there was the young man, sitting at a table in the common area. I put the card on the check-in desk, and looked at him and said (very calmly), "That was completely inappropriate..." And he immediately started yelling at me again, "Why?? We came to your door 3times!" I said "yes, and the maid was there BANGING on the door at 9am!" He said "that is what she is supposed to do!" I said, "There is a phone in the room, if you were concerned you could have called us instead of coming to the room and yelling at us!" He yelled, "You didn't have the courtesy to come two steps here to the office??" I said, "We weren't dressed yet! So No!" He said,"It's 12 o'clock now!" And I said, "Yes, but we PAID for a 2nd night!" He then was just yelling over me at anything I said, and he yelled at me, "FU! (He did say all of both of these words, but Trip Advisor would not allow me to use profanity in my review, so I am not spelling it out here, either)." I was so shocked, but yes, I did yell," FU (again, the full words)!" Back at him. He then flipped me the bird, and yelled, " FU, B?!$& (again all of the words)!" With that I left, yelling, "FU (and lastly, the full words) and I can't wait to write the worst review ever!" So shocking, the whole thing. I then proceeded to take photos of all the broken and chippy things in our room, the broken ice machine (telling people to go across the street to use that one instead!), and the sticker on their door of the CLEARLY out-dated and 100%incorrect rating of 8.3 on Trip Advisor! Beware this terrible place, find somewhere else to stay - there are lots of options on Vernon, TX. read more

Definitely not your home away from home, as it says on their sign. After traveling 13 hours we needed a place to sleep for the night, I looked on trip advisor and they gave this place a 8.0 so we decided to go there. When we pulled up, I could see into the lobby a woman sleeping on the couch, it was 10 PM, I guess she was the owner, she was asleep on the sofa, I knocked on the glass door, and it woke her up, she definitely was not happy to see me, I woke her from her slumber. We get in the room and get ready for bed, my husband took off his shoes and walked to the bathroom to get in the shower, he noticed his feet were black, and the floor looked like it hadn't mopped in awhile, the shower head was rusted, when I tried to adjust it, it felt like it was going to fall out of the wall, the cloth shower curtain had mold, and hair imbedded in the bottom seam, the shower faucet handle was not fitted properly, there was a half inch gap where water would get behind the shower wall. When we finally get to bed we noticed the sandpaper sheets, the mattress was okay, but needless to say, it was not a decent night sleep. In the morning we go to check out and to see the continental breakfast That is advertised , and there she is again, the same woman in the same clothes, sleeping on the couch, we go over to see the breakfast, which consists of packaged doughnuts and packaged danish, biscuits with gravy, some fruit, coffee (that wasn't hot) and pitchers of pre made juices. Finally the lady got off the couch and said are you checking out, I said yes, I gave her my key card, and asked for a receipt, she said "you want a receipt " I said yes! It was apparent that it was a hassle for her, for some reason she had to go somewhere else to print it, when we finally get it, my husband says thank you, have a nice day! She didn't even look up or acknowledge us. Well all I can say is avoid this place at all costs, very dirty, and unfriendly read more

The room was clean, but the big problem was questionable statements by the young man in the office. When my gf went to get some ice, she was informed by him that an electrical problem the night before had caused the ice machine to stop working. (Got to wonder when you consider the review by Sara C from February 2025 noting message on ice machine: "Out of Order. Across the Street Ice Machine Working.") At the same time, Gf asked about the breakfast included and was told by him that it included biscuits and gravy, pastries, cold cereals, and juices. In the morning, my gf went to get some breakfast, but there was nothing but weak coffee. There was an empty dispenser for dry cereals and an area for chafing dishes. She was told that a delivery had not shown up. Yes, the room was clean, but there were several irritating small problems: the dead bolt on the door was inoperable (door seemed out of alignment), one of the lights by the bed was out, and the pool was a nasty, stagnant green. We have stayed here twice before in the last three years and the pool was also out. Yes, the room was clean, but we will look for somewhere else next time we are stopping over in Vernon. read more

This hotel was so dirty, we could not stay the night. The room was infested with live crickets, and ants were crawling up the drainpipe in the bathtub. the management gave us lots of excuses, even to the point of rudeness, (it is cricket migration season), but did not offer a refund of the room. Still, it was worth losing the money not to sleep there. read more

We stayed here with our children during our road trip across country as we were relocating from Florida to Phoenix, Az. We ended up checking in @ around 3 am & because we checked in late the owner was kind enough to extend our checkout @1 pm. The rooms were spacious enough with everything you'd need. You could definitely tell that the owners put some money into renovating this motel on the inside & out, it was very cute. Would've loved to jump in the pool when I saw it in the daylight as we were jumping back in the Uhaul, it was so clean & extremely inviting, just calling you to jump in!! They also offered a free hot breakfast & they honor the AAA discount. The motel is in a town that probably has a population of 50 people, so with that being said this spot was a definite diamond in the rough. read more

Wow. Just wow. This place fits the "don't judge a book by its cover" saying perfectly. The reviews on yelp helped me choose this place because if I drove by it I wouldn't have stopped. It looks run down and might have been a little rough part of town, but they are working on getting the out side looking as good as the inside. I checked in and the front desk woman was very friendly and helped me find my room and what was good to eat around town. After we drove to our room and found some food, a couple beers, we headed to the pool. Slightly sorry but some local kids had been swimming in it so I assume it's a normal hang out spot. Cool waters and hot sunset. The a/c worked so good I had to get up and turn it off in the middle of the night. Huge comfortable bed and quiet neighbors... if I ever have to stop in Vernon again I will go back. read more

I'm rating this based on the type of hotel. First the good... We were on our way to CO, and for a side road hotel, I would strongly recommended. If you are tired with kids and a dog, and going on a road trip through TX, this is the place to stay. As soon as a call the receptionist was very helpful and nice. When we got there, the transaction was very smooth and we head to our room with no issues. The personnel was really nice and smiley, always asking if everything was ok. The only thing about it, was that we found some dead bugs and the towel hanger inside the shower had mold. Also the smell from the carpet detergent was a little strong for my taste. The worst experience I have ever had checking into a hotel, all stemming from an extra 10.00 charge I was questioning, I wanted to show what the website showed and why I was questioning it and his response was so dismissive and rude it escalated and I wanted to cancel the reservation I had made an hour before he told me it was non refundable, so at that point I told just to give me the room, I had already told him I would be complaining previous to this point, now he tells me he thinks he should cancel the reservation, I said great as long as my card is credited, he told me he didnt charge my card, I asked him if anyplace charged my card and he States probably, I explained that I would not be leaving unless I either got a credit to my account or I got a room, he then tells me if I don't make a complaint then he'll get me a room, again I told him I would not leave without either a complaint or a room he then proceeds to give me a room on the second floor, I explained I was handicapped and would need a first floor room, I admit I did not think to state that in my reservation request so he tells me that a room on the second floor is extra money but he would go ahead and do me a favor and change my room to the first floor but for me to understand that he was actually doing me a favor, after all the drama I went ahead and told him not to do me anything favors and I proceeded to take my huge suitcase to the second floor using the stairs being disabled. I am 58 years old and have never experienced anything like this, I did call and complain through Expedia who was who I made the reservation through but I want to make sure I follow through on what I told him which would be that I would be putting a very bad review on, he also explained to me that he was not an employee when I asked how he could be an employee and treat customers like this and later in the conversation I found out he's actually the son of the owners or at least that's what I was told by him. I do have to be honest and say the room is very nice and very clean and had I not had that horrible experience at the very beginning I would have really enjoyed my stay. read more

Stay here. We were going to stay in Wichita Falls but all the hotel reviews were terrible. So I checked out Vernon. Yes, this is an older renovated motel, but it was clean, looked nice, cool air conditioning, comfy bed, lots of hot water, and the desk clerk was very cheerful. I would stay here again. read more

Literal worst MOTEL ever.. it's says hotel on the sign.. but literally a "renovated" motel.. someone should put this place out of its misery.. they only clean rooms every other day.. assuming they even get to it.. Towels are like 100 grit sandpaper that are basically just large hand towels.. beds are worthless.. "linens" consist of two thin threadbare sheets sandwiching a fleece blanket almost as thin... haven't even gotten to the best part yet.. rats and roaches.. yep folks.. not one or the other.. both.. worst place ever.. and i've been to Iraq.. not cool Iraq either.. war-torn Iraq.. i ealize that for the price point you can't expect much.. but i can at least expect to not wake up to take a piss without stepping on a roach.. read more

Hotel was clean , nice upgraded rooms and friendly staff too! The only thing I didn't like was the walls were very thin. I could hear people conversations on one side and the other side people were doing the hanky panky! The room we stayed in was suppose to be smoke free but stunk like an ash tray. I was in Vernon from California for a few days. My flight was an early morning arrival and the hotel staff was gracious enough to allow an early check-in. The room was decent and I can see there were some recent renovation/upgrades. My only complaint would be there were 4 large flies in my room that I had to kill. read more

I really didn't expect much from a budget motel in Vernon, TX; however I was pleasantly surprised, when despite my reservation being lost, they took care of me and gave me a room upgrade at their bargain rate in a location which allowed me to put my motorcycle under shelter. This is a good value. The hotel is a little dated but the staff was very nice. The rooms (we rented three) were very clean. The area was quiet and we all slept well. Parking was right in front of the rooms. The complementary breakfast consisted of a buffet with scrambled eggs, biscuits, white gravy, patty sausage, and potatoes. There was also a full selection of cereals, etc. The coffee was pretty good. The eating area was very clean. I started to give them a 4 due to the age of the facility but decided on a 5 due to the value and staff. If the occasion arises, we would definitely stay there again. BTW - for late arrivers, there is a great Huddle House about a mile down the road. read more

After driving for 10+ hours -you are worn out, tired, hungry & you want a nice place to rest that is right off of the highway. HOTEL VERNON ROCKS! The rooms are a good size, they have a refrigerator (a must for travelers) and all the normal things you expect from a hotel including plenty of ice. This place is perfect for sportsman, hunters, vacationers and anyone wanting a nice place to rest your head, achy feet and in need of a hearty, warm & nourishing breakfast. Biscuits & gravy, sausage, bacon, waffles, pancakes, fruit, cereal, hot coffee & OJ. Getting started on the second leg of a 1400+ mile trip with a full stomach makes a big difference! They have a seasonal pool, a business center with free wifi, faxes, copies, computer and FedEx pickup. The next time my family and I are passing through Texas, we will be staying here.
