It's a lesson in planning, people. SO a girlfriend and I decided to go to Napa Valley for the weekend and just wing it. No plans. No hotel booked. No idea on where we want to go and no worries about anything. Which all sounded very free-spirited and romantic until we realized that we are super Type-A's who spend most of our lives with every second crammed to the max of things to do and it's really difficult to let that go. So we found ourselves touring the wineries in this gorgeous part of the country but all the while the idea that we had nowhere to stay was just eating away at our brains. Once nighttime fell, we consulted Yelp and realized there was Hotel St. Helena nearby. Now, this hotel had 2.5 stars. But both of the reviews said it would be an ideal choice if you just need a place to lay your head. And that was all we needed. So, we paid the $125 and went on our way. The hotel is the cutest of cute. Everything is very boutique-y and old-fashioned. There is no front desk staff after 10. The rooms are absolutely teeny tiny. We could touch 3 walls from the bed. And our room was in a spot with a shared bathroom space. We felt like we were staying in a European hostel. I'm giving them 4 stars bc everything was clean and ran smoothly. The owner that works the desk is the sweetest woman ever and gave us a great rate since we called and booked so last minute. We knew what we were getting into when we booked it, so I'm not knocking off any stars for being small or sharing a bathroom. Honestly, it was one of the coolest hotel stays I've ever had!

I'm shocked at the Yelp reviews for this beautiful historic hotel. When you book your stay at Hotel Saint Helena you need to be a person who appreciates history, and the beauty that comes with the time gone by. This hotel is so quaint and charming from the little old keys you receive to open your one little small room, to the old staircase with red carpeting and old painted pictures, to glass cases with old porcelain dolls, antiques, grandfather clocks, and old wooden furniture that was deemed expensive and classy of the time period. When you stay here it feels as though you are in a movie. The beds are comfortable and to you wake up in your old fashion room to the smell of brewing coffee downstairs. In the breakfast nook there is a spread of delightful pastries, breads, with an assortment of jams, cereal, boiled eggs, yogurts, and more. Attached is a beautiful patio with ivy all around and you can sit out there on the old iron chairs and enjoy a glass of wine or walk straight out the door and you right in downtown Saint Helena. This 1800s restored hotel is truly a gem. It is not one for someone expecting a chaotic loud resort type accommodation. My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. It was very romantic and we will be coming again.

I've seen Southbridge pop up on different travel/hotel apps so its been on my radar. Wife and I…read morewere in town on a Sunday, had great food and drinks and didn't feel like driving home back to the East Bay. Decided to hop on an app that shows me last minute hotel deals and saw Southbridge at the top of the list. Since we had a babysitter and the room rates were great, we decided to book our last minute stay. Just right across the street from Gotts and next door to Charter Oak, there was plenty of parking in the back. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly and to our surprise, we were given Room 8 which was a big room that had a balcony that faced the street. Highlights - beds and pillows were comfortable, water pressure in the shower was probably the best I've experienced in a while. A quick little walk over to the next building over and as hotel guests, you have full access to all of the amenities at Health Spa Napa Valley (heated lap pool, hot tub, full gym, steam room). This was super nice to just unwind and relax after a day of over indulging. You can also place a light breakfast order to be delivered to your room at your selected time; boiled eggs, croissant, fruit, coffee, etc. Something to be aware of; the hotel is situation right off of the main road Hwy28 so if you're a light sleeper, you will hear cars, trucks and motorcycles all times of the day and night. Definitely plan on coming back again during off peak days to enjoy the amenities.

We Loved - and I mean LOVED - our stay at Southbridge. From the small details to the amazing…read morewalkable location, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay to visit St. Helena in Napa Valley, CA. They welcome you with a nice personalized sign in your room, complimentary water and apples. The sustainable features are impressive - Instead of plastic bottles and paper cups, they give you a glass carafe and glass cups. The towels are so soft and plentiful, extra pillows and a blanket supplied were nicer than my own linens at home, certainly not just the extras. They supply cozy and comfy robes, a duraflame log for the fireplace upon request, and a sweet turn down service with stamped cookies that shout "welcome home." We enjoyed the walkability to visit art galleries and boutiques in St. Helena. We attended brunch at Mustard and Dinner reservation at Charter Oak. *Yum*!! After a long day of wine tasting, the restaurant next door/attached has delicious wood fired pizzas which we could not pass up! The drinks at the bar were generous and was a nice switch up from wine (although they have wine too, of course!) while we watched the sports game that was on. We dropped off our Continental breakfast selections which are delivered straight to your room the next morning. We felt so pampered, eating breakfast in the comfort of our own room in our robes and slippers. The mini fridge allowed us to save extras we might want to snack on later. The Illy espresso machine made it so we could enjoy espresso throughout the day and even a decaf shot at night. The pastries served are on another level and pretty much awards them the best Continental breakfast we've ever had!! We were sad we didn't get to take advantage of the health spa privileges, but it felt very nice to know we could have enjoyed the spa and sauna should we have chosen to. They give you a complimentary tasting at Merryvale across the parking lot which is an exceptional value since to reserve online was $60/person. Their wines are fantastic and the people are just as great! Our trip to Napa Valley was superb thanks to the staff and grounds at Southbridge. We will certainly come again and highly recommend it to others traveling and looking for subtle luxury and amazing comfort.

The mood…read morewas warm and inviting and it smelled so good (so good in fact I asked what scent they used to diffuse and immediately purchased perfume ... Santal 33). The lovely host took me on quick tour and had someone help me with my bags upstairs. You would be surprised how rarely that happened on our trip through Napa. The room was gorgeous. I owned my own cleaning business for 10 years and the level of cleanliness was unparalleled. The carpet was thick and the bed sheets did not have that bleach rough texture you often find in any hotel these days. The courtyard offered a pool and an amazing hot tub surrounded by lounge areas and fire pits. We spent the evening in the hot tub looking at stars and full moon, drinking some wine we picked up along the way. No glass allowed in pool area but they provided plastic wine glasses. The breakfast was sit down style and you selected a few options as part of the package. You could add on for a fee. The English muffin is to die for and domes from local bakery. We stopped at Oakville Grocery on our way and had a nice little charcuterie in our room to snack on. Highly recommend as a stop for treats it's only 6 minutes away. We walked to dinner at Rutherfords Grill that's just across parking lot. You can easily go to the winery near by as well. Overall we were just two girls having a great road trip but I'd recommend this for honeymoon as or romantic getaway as well. Perfect!!

There were seven people in the restaurant--including us--and everyone was elderly. Please consider cutting back a little on the salt.
