There are lots of 1 star reviews here for this hotel, though google and other sites rank them a bit higher. Had I seen these reviews, I would have likely passed on staying. However, it worked for what we needed and I *almost* went full 4 stars to balance out the hate based on our mostly positive experience. So, traveling with my brother who booked this hotel through Airbnb. He thought he was booking a private condo or apartment space only to find out post-booking it was a hotel. We arrive and...it's not bad. I'm scanning these reviews while he's checking us in as we realize where we're staying and I'm nervous. But, the lobby is clean and modern, the staff is friendly, the parking is good (though pricey, but this is suburban DC). It is noticeably muggy in the elevator and hallways and since so many reviews describe the rooms as being hot I'm worried. But in the room, I crank the AC and it quickly cools things off. Our stay in the room for 3 days is consistently cool. In room fridge works properly. Wifi works. Water pressure is good, though it takes a moment for the water to get hot. If you plan on eating on site it's too pricey to be worth it, especially since you're in walking distance of almost anything you'd want to eat. We were here to see several shows at the Fillmore and it's steps from the hotel. This worked out great. No uber, no parking costs. I'd stay here again if seeing shows at the Fillmore. Price is solid/average. Location is fantastic. The hotel smells musty, old, faint cigarette odor. Rooms were fine, beds were comfortable and had great bedding, AC worked. It was quiet at night. It felt safe throughout. A solid 3 hotel that could use some upgrades. read more

This hotel was absolutely disgusting! First and last time staying here. The only reason I stayed was to visit a friend, if it wasn't for that I would have been gone immediately. The halls, elevator and lobby had no a/c. Everything looked dingy. The bathrooms were rusty and moldy. The bathtub wouldn't drain. It was just a horrible experience. Oh! Almost forgot to add, I saw little mice racing down the hallway as well as I was finally leaving. Please book elsewhere! read more

I booked this hotel to celebrate my daughter's birthday following the Christmas holiday. We like to make her day special as it is so close to the holiday, a nice getaway is always nice. This year she wanted to stay local and we found the Hotel Silver Spring to be near a few restaurants she wanted to dine at for the day. Check in started off a little rocky as the front desk attendant didn't seem too pleasant. She wasn't rude or mean, but from someone who works in the hospitality industry I am used to feeling welcome. This person really seemed to just "do her job" and move the check in line. No big deal, we took our key and went upstairs to get settled in. The instant we opened the door you could feel heat. I am a person who is always cold so for me to feel hot says a lot. We went in and I tried to adjust the temperature to no avail. I called the front desk and the same woman said she would send someone upstairs. The room had to have been 100 degrees. I am not exaggerating. We couldn't breathe. It got to the point I was taking my clothes off and I finally decided to go back to the front desk and just ask for another room. There was no possible way we were going to wait for a tech to come and assist any longer. We were provided keys to another room with ease. However, although the new room did not have a temperature issue there were visible stains on the couch, holes in one of the lamps, and mold in the bathroom. It was disgusting and not safe. Event the tub looked as if it was not clean. I am greatly disappointed in my stay and would like to be compensated for this. I will not be staying a Hotel Silver Spring again and plan to contact the corporate offices as someone should really be aware of the status of this property. Pictures attached. read more

EVERYTHING!!!!! I am in agreement with all the previous reviews. Everything said about this place is true! Upon entering the room we (my family and I) could instantly feel the heat. I immediately adjusted the thermostat to 60° and waited a bit and no change. Called the front desk & they accommodated us with another room. I decided to walk upstairs since our room was directly 1 flight up. Seen several giant (dead) cockroaches/water bugs, dirt and puddles of water on the way up! I wished I had taken the elevator. Room #2, same issue (HOT). Once again upon entering the room I adjusted the thermostat to 60°. Maintenance guy was sent to "adjust vents." No CHANGE!! Sofa sleeper upholstery was ripped and stained, mold in the bathroom and living room area. Decided to take a break from the disgusting quarters to go out for dinner. Spoke to a random guest on the elevator, inquired about ac in their room and their experience was even worse, no ac & according to this guest they had uninvited visitors (mice)!! Well... that sealed the deal for me. We went back to grab our belongings and left!!! Zero stars for the hotel, 4 stars for the front desk staff. read more

It's an ok Hotel. Could improve by teaching the workers manners and costumer service plus the place is little be outdated. I have been there 3 times . The only good thing it's the location of the place. I don't know what are the procedure to work there BUT I'm assuming u just need to be able to speak. Cause most of the people behind the counter are rude beside the young lady that speak 4-5 languages fluently. She's a doll. The older gentleman as a security guard is a villain and a wanna be thug. I have seen him speaking to a costumer like he was at a basketball pick up game for a misunderstanding which he was at fault. The bartenders they are chill and respectful BUT the bar itself lack of ambient and Food selection. Some of the rooms I have been in have smoke and weed smell BUT I guess in their defense can't control that . The upper management need to make a clean house of the bad apple and train the new staff costumer service interaction. And that will definitely help the 2 star average that they have . Good luck Hotel SS. read more

I have stayed in several rooms on different floors as my work requires travel on a budget. That's all you get here. The first noticeable thing upon opening the door to any room is a strong smell of mold. The Maryland Health Dept. should be notified. Walls and paint are cracked; the whole facility is in disrepair. The lobby is a hangout for hookers waiting for a date. The fire department makes regular visits to the hotel. This whole scene is dodgy at best, yet is a colorful immersion in the underbelly of human existence. read more

This hotel is terrible! I woke up at 2 am to a MOUSE in my room!!!!! This mouse was literally going to the next room, coming in from under the main door and just roaming around. My room was changed and there were flies - about 3 of them in the new room which means something dead or rotten was around. There was also mouse dropping at the entrance of this "new room" as well. Despite reporting the incident, the manager never reached out. Yes - prior to changing my room the front staff apologized profusely and sent someone up to the room (not pest control) however upon my return and questioning the new front desk person about the manager not reaching out and their lack of concern for mice roaming around , she literally told me "what do I want her to do" which was rude and condescending !!! This place is not cleaned properly - torn sheets, mice, mice droppings, flies, there's an odor ....Do NOT stay there ..... a health hazard. I threw out every food item I had recently purchased which was a total waste of my money. Also upon entering the hotel look to the right before entering the second door... it looks like there are some moldy spots!! This is a dirty, unsanitary hotel with unconcerned staff - a health hazard. read more

lobby was a beautiful area. We got to our room and it was small but okay. As we were sitting on the couch a cockroach crawled out. There was little bugs inside the refrigerator. We packed our bags and left asap ended up not even staying 3 hours in the hotel before that happened. Lucky we had found a better hotel so we could enjoy our stay in Silver Springs. read more

This has been the most horrific experience I've EVER had at a hotel. The general manager at the front desk was disrespectful, narcissistic, and a pitiful hotel employee. I was leading a group of middle school students while staying at the Hotel Silver Spring, and a toilet was having severe issues; we alerted the general manager of the issue our first night. The general manager said he would alert the engineering department. Spoiler alert: they didn't. The issues led to flooding of the room. The general manager would not give us his name when addressing us. Our students were not able to stay in the room and he was unwilling to accommodate. He berated myself and my fellow chaperones for 15 minutes, saying the issue was our students' fault. We were so close to calling the police. I will scream from the mountain tops that Hotel Silver Spring should be avoided at all costs, hire a competent general manager, and create a MUCH better experience for potential guests. This place was literally a shit show. While we were guests, rooms were overbooked and hadn't been cleaned (shower head hanging off, large amounts of hair, stained sheets, stained cups, ripped sheets, and ants in the bed). The GM provided zero solutions, yelled at us with demeaning language, and told us "it's not my job to worry about providing customer service." You can't make this up. I gave one star because I couldn't give 0. read more

Completely appalling, nothing works, literally can't even get clean water, feels like existing in the middle of the desert with a bunch of sewage read more

If I could give this 0 stars I would. My stay here was massively disappointing. From the rickety elevators that opened to depressing and dirty floors that more often than not smelled only of cigarettes, every step in this hotel felt like the antithesis towards a pleasant stay. Upon reaching our room we were met with the musky smell of a damp room that had drywall splattered on the furniture.Upon moving rooms we were met with a room that also had that pleasant feel of a place that encouraged guests to smoke so they could bear the low quality of the rooms. In our room alone we noticed many problems such as wall paper peeling from the wall along the window (we were afraid to check behind the wallpaper for mold) but as it turned out it wasn't needed because the mold was just in the corner of the room , a dirty, stained shower, a bathroom with no exhaust vent to allow moisture to escape, dirty corners of the bathroom, a weird stained ceiling that also had a ridge pushing down from the floor above, a constant smell of moisture, the shower is mislabeled (cold is hot, hot is cold, and one of the offs does nothing), there is no main light in the room you have to use the lamps for all the light, almost all of the outlets were loose and struggled to keep things plugged in, there is no microwave, there is no way to get filtered water, the only place we found to get water was in the gym facilities located on the 9th floor next to the pool, after inspecting the water hose to the water machine I was glad there was a filter on the machine because the water/tubing was disgusting looking, nowhere on the website did it say the pool was closed, we were told it was under renovation but upon looking out from the gym the only thing done to the pool was a curtain that was placed in front of the front door to block the view of guests to the perfectly fine and full pool facilities. We have finally decided the only good thing about this hotel is the location. read more

I honestly do not even know where to begin. This is the absolute WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. We brought a group to Washington, DC. Unfortunately, we stayed here during our trip. It was a nightmare. It started upon arrival when we entered our rooms and they were absolutely disgusting. Some of our group were unable to even stay in their assigned room because it was so unclean. Beds were not made. Hair was all over the bathroom. Shower heads were detached. Beds were wet. The AC did not work in most rooms. It was awful. One of our rooms did not have a working toilet. We notified the front desk. At the time, they did not care. They told us they would try to send someone up to fix it, but it was clearly not of importance at that time. The next day, we arrived back at the hotel with our group. The guests staying in the room with the toilet that did not work actually ended up having their room flooded by the toilet. There was almost an inch of water standing in the room and coming out into to hallway. We immediately went to the front desk for assistance and was told by the general manager (who refused to give us his name) that it was not his problem and we would have to figure it out. A maintenance man was sent up. There was no evidence of anything being done incorrectly by our guest, however the general manager told us that it was our fault the toilet was leaking so bad, so we would have to deal with it. He then explained that all rooms were booked, and this was also our fault since we had a large group staying there. He did not provide a single accommodation to us or try to help in anyway. He sat on his cell phone and yelled at us when we were calmly talking to him about the seriousness of our issue. We had a large group and many were already in their rooms asleep. It was late at night, and we were unable to just up and leave or I assure you we would have absolutely done just that. Multiple people from our group tried to talk calmly with the general manager. He raised his voice at us and talked down to us in a way that I have never been spoken to by anyone before. At one point he yelled at us and called us annoying and told us to "go away and stop bothering him". He told us, "It's not my job to provide you with customer service. I don't care." And just continued to be unhelpful, hateful, and rude. We asked for his name, and he told us it was not relevant. We asked for a phone number to call and he refused to give us one. It is absolutely ridiculous that these hotel employees are allowed to treat their paying guests this way. I would not even take a chance in this place. Skip it. Drive anywhere else. Pay more money. This place is horrific and does not deserve another customer. read more

I am not one to leave reviews about places but I had too. Would not recommend staying here unless you wanna sleep in a sauna. I'm almost positive the AC was broken in the entire hotel. My friends and I were on separate floors but we all had the same problem. We stayed here for the night after a concert and it was a big waste of money. When I called from the room to talk to someone about the air they lady was kind but acted completely shocked that I wasn't satisfied with the air blowing out at 90 degrees ( even though they had machines blowing out in the hallway plugged up every 20 feet) , about 15 min later a handyman comes in the room and asked if we wanted the room WARMER or cooler. He proceeded to tell me he solved the problem and now the AC was blowing out cool air, I stood up to feel it and it was no different than before. Ended leaving at 6 am to drive home because anything was better than sitting in a 90 degree room. People were kind, hotel was for the most part clean and I would've been okay but I am infuriated about the AC problem. read more

I went with a group of students to this establishment. I normally do not leave reviews, but the gentleman working the front desk during the night on the evening of May 25, 2024, warrants this review. While the cleanliness of the hotel and the lack of working air conditioning in some of our rooms was extremely disappointing, I feel that there must be a portal to the Twilight Zone that resides in this area. Never before have I witnessed a more disrespectful and immature human--being a public middle school teacher, this is saying something. One of our rooms had a toilet that, when we arrived, was having issues flushing. It was reported immediately, and nothing was done. When we arrived back the next day after sight-seeing, the toilet was overflowing. When we asked for help, we received everything but help. We were talked down to and accused of vandalizing the room. I literally saw this front desk worker, a grown man, slam his phone down and yell, "You're annoying me! Go away!" to our students' principal who was just trying to get someone to fix the toilet. I am appalled, aghast, and angry. This was a horrible experience. read more
