Booked a stay here last minute and overall, it was a good experience! Hotel Scherman is a no-frills boutique hotel right on Restaurant Row. The rooms are small (that was expected for a hotel in Manhattan), but well air conditioned and very comfortable! They also have a rooftop terrace, but I didn't get to see it because of the rain. If you're booking through a third-party website, make sure you compare to the direct rates, because those may be even lower. Also keep in mind that Hotel Sherman has strict policies on visitors (only two at a time can be signed in) and no one can visit after midnight without being counted as a guest (they will ask for all names and IDs of guests ahead of time). Breakfast is included in the morning, but I didn't try it! read more

Stayed here with some friends while celebrating a birthday. The balconies were an awesome feature and provided that "wow" factor for folks who weren't from the city. The 2 bed/2 bath combo room was honestly awesome - the door from the hallway enters into a living room (with 1 bathroom and a sleeper sofa), and then the 2 bedrooms branch off of opposite sides of that living room (1 of which has a master bath). When staying with friends, I really liked this layout because each couple could be in their own room while sharing a living room in between, but not necessarily sharing a wall. My only complaint is that there isn't a lobby space... just a hard-to-find exterior door opening into a small narrow hallway with a tiny desk at the end next to the tiny elevator. We had some friends over and it would have been more ideal to meet in the lobby for a drink but that was obviously not an option - and furthermore we had to come down and let them into the exterior door and sign each of them into our room. Great for security purposes but if you are meeting up with friends I suggest doing it elsewhere! read more

As you've read in several other reviews, the staff is excellent. Very friendly and want to please. The cleanliness of the place and attention to small details is excellent as well. The price is not cheap, but proximity to Times Square or the show at whatever theater you are going to go to as a special event for your significant other (etc) you can't beat. You are steps from it all. The breakfast was continental the next day with excellent croissants. It isn't a hearty breakfast, but was plenty and pleased everyone. Bedding was comfortable, and bathroom had great pressure and very clean....again, we were pleased. If you are reading this at this point, you might be wondering why it's not 5 stars though. Truly...the place itself is, but the location itself on restaurant row in my mind should be a major plus, but it is a setback. I'm not very old, but in my naive mind, restaurant row was flush with restaurants as well as the glitz and glamor of the hayday of Theater in the 20's through the 50's.......the words, IT IS NOT. You do have some like Frankie and Johnnies that some would say is a toursity spot, but that's another review for another day. Restaurant Row for the most part is restaurants with a variety of flavors...but NOT an enjoyable experience. Plan to be packed in tight where you are sitting at a table with 3 inches of space from the next table hearing their conversation (it's New York and high rent...so if a restaurant can pack another table in and make money, they will). Then for whatever reason, loud night club music vibrates your body though the walls until 2am (and that is literal)...but there really aren't night clubs so I don't see why that happens. Schermann is an excellent Boutique hotel, surrounded by what unfortunately (in my opinion) is part of the downfall of the theater district: average quality restaurants fighting for your dollars left over from (lets be honest) insanely priced tickets (alas, it is one of a kind shows you cant see anywhere else). So yes, Hotel Schermann is a wondeful hotel in the city that never sleeps, but don't expect to get to much sleep on Restaurant Row. It might be worth the money to pay the same amount to stay in a cookie cutter room like Hotel W on a high floor and 1/2 the space, where you can at least recharge yourself in silence. read more

Call Sherman is the perfect! Boutique hotel located conveniently near the Broadway district in Hell's Kitxhen. Upon entering, we were immediately delighted with the freshness of the decor. The desk staff were all friendly, accommodating and professional. Our room was well appointed and sparkling clean. The color scheme of white and black floors throughout added to its charm. The 'view' we had was of NY rooftops, which we actually liked! Continental breakfast is included and generous. The piece de resistance is the rooftop lounge. The hotel staff were awesome. I was so concerned prior to arriving . However, we felt very safe in the hotel. We are a family of 6 so we rented the vip or luxury suite. It was perfect for our family. We had much room. They really go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and accommodated. The place was very clean. I am extremely particular and can't stand any appearances or traces of dirt or dust. What a pleasant experience. The restroom was clean. The bedroom, the linens, the patio furniture and the deck. The day we checked out my younger two kids were exhausted and whining. The young lady at the front was a beautiful browned skinned girl like me was very patient and played soft music to soothe the atmosphere. The only reason I didn't score 5 stars is because due to the age of the property I'm not sure the age of the carpet or the furniture in the living room space. read more

Inflexible hotel during COVID given fast changing NYC restrictions Review is all about customer experience during COVID. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to experience the physical hotel itself. If you want understanding from this hotel, dont expect it. All I asked for was to move my booking at least a month or two given fast rising COVID rates in NYC and mayor recently discouraging visitors. They refused to budge from their 48 hour policy while other fancy hotels have been more than conciliatory in this regard. Best stay-cation my friends and I had here! So glad we chose this place. The hotel is lovely, everything is decorated beautifully and the rooms are super comfortable and clean. We went up to the rooftop and the view of the NYC skyline made for great Instagram pictures lol. Also, the hotel and the hotel lobby were separated so coming in and out didn't feel obnoxious. For a NYC boutique hotel, this place is terrific. As long as you can do stairs, ask For a room in the charming townhouse next door to the main hotel. Exposed brick, original fireplace and a quaint sitting area where you have a view of all the action on bustling restaurant row. I would definitely stay here again. So why no 5th star? We all know Manhattan is loud, but this hotel is right over the bars and restaurants. We came on a Friday night which was just unbelievably loud. Saturday seemed a bit better. Staff are friendly and the room was clean. Continental breakfast was included. They are redoing the restaurant as of Summer 2019. The location is truly excellent. A historic location. From the 1960s to the 1990s this location was an SRO rooming house run by my cousins parents, who were immigrants from Ticino, Svizzera. Lovely boutique hotel on Restaurant Row NYC! Upon arrival to The French Quarters we were able to pre-check-in and have them hold our luggage so we go out and explore Manhattan. When we returned our room was ready and they had placed our luggage in our room. What an impression! Our room was beautiful! My husband and I were in NY to celebrate our 17th anniversary, and the staff went out of their way with some little extras that made our stay so romantic and memorable! (THANK YOU!!!) The room was clean and beautifully decorated: great attention to detail right down to the window treatments! We had a King bed that was very comfortable. The bathroom and walk-in shower was good size (no hair dryer, so bring your own). There was a small kitchenette in our room as well. There was a Keurig coffee maker, along with several K-cups, cream, and sweetener. It felt more like we were staying in someone's home... so much better than the large, noisy, crowded hotels east of 7th Avenue! Don't focus so much on hotel views! You'll be so busy you'll never have time to go to your hotel and look out the window. Besides, I rather liked the view from our room. Plus we spent every moment of each day viewing the skyline from land & water. There is also a good continental breakfast on the restaurant level -- Again, hosted by very friendly and helpful s I will definitely be returning to The French Quarters on my next trip to NYC! read more

Absolutely horrible unpleasant experience! We choose the hotel based on their description that's a quiet place. First of all, when we came there a front desk guys sent us to look for a room to a different building. Secondly, there was so much noise when we got in the room. There was a performance going on right in front of our windows. I could hear every single word like all those people were inside our room. After 30 minutes being in the room we came downstairs asking to change the room. The guy told us he see available rooms but he has to contact his manager to unlock them. We left the place hoping that somebody would call us. Of course nobody called us back. Next morning when I called the manager put me on hold! When I called him back he called me a lier!! A Beautiful hotel and a okay view. The service was great and we were very happy with their service. Breakfast, it was okay . We only ate once because we wanted scrambled egg and bacon and they did not offer that . Location, only two blocks away from time square so that a plus for them . The room was spacious and clean except for carpet. They had a small kitchen area with a refrigerator and a coffee maker. Minus one star for few things . I would definitely recommend this hotel but check the price on their website before using the third party like me. I paid more money through Expedia and always book a hotel with a free cancellation. I am shocked at the reviews on Hotel Sherman. I loved everything about my stay! The hostel location is on restaurant row which is perfect for a foodie like me. It was really quiet which I was surprised by. The hotel tv had netflix and all the other streaming platforms available. The rooftop view was absolutely beautiful! There's cute tables and lights hanging as well. I got to watch the sunset on the roof top and it was so beautiful. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because 1. They forgot to call us to tell us our room was ready. 2. The breakfast was a little lack luster and our room key was having issues. These are minor issues that would NOT stop me from booking another room here in the future. The price for the room we stayed in was amazing especially so close to the time square. The pillows attached to the head board were a small detail that I really appreciated. Made sitting up and watching tv in bed much more comfortable. The owner was super nice as well and took our luggage for us while we walked around the city. read more

This time I needed something very close to the train and theater so I just picked something that fit our budget - well this place was an amazing surprise and I will absolutely make this hotel high on the list to go back to. I stayed at this hotel in January. The hotel is nice, and in a great location. The customer service was left to be desired. My keycard stopped working on three different occasions, I had to request a new card. The attendant was very rude questioning what I did to deactivate the card. I asked why was it that the card was not working and was accused of being responsible. I also did not have any assistance with my bags, the reason reportedly being "due to Covid." I have traveled during the pandemic and have been provided with assistance with my luggage. After the trip, I wrote a review regarding my negative experience and the manager responded by saying that my credit card was declined so they had to ask for another form of payment. This was not true, my card was never declined. It was so disappointing that instead of apologizing for their poor customer service, they made false statements to try to justify their actions. read more
