Amazing, expensive yes, but worth it - stay here. We had Room #104 with 2 tiny balconies over a canal with gondolas passing by. Room was huge, the bed with huge (probably a king size), the safe was the size you would have in a house, humongous. They had fresh pink lillies in the room that opened during our stay (very nice touch). The room was old, old, old and elegant beyond words. This is old world elegance at it's best. Clean but old. The A/C worked, everything worked, no problems. In the U.S. the staff in a hotel of this caliber would be pretenious, but not here. The staff at the front desk were VERY friendly and VERY helpful and VERY down to earth. We didn't buy Doges Palace (you MUST go to Doges Palace) tickets at home because they required us to put our passport # online. The front desk sold us skip the line Doges Palace tickets 20 euros cash each, very simple and I'm glad I didn't order online. Breakfast had everything (scrambled eggs, lunguica like sausages, prosciutto like bacon, make your own waffles, yogurt, cereals, fruits, too many sweets to name, breads, cheese, ham, juices). Bathtub/shower is very very high so you have to be very careful when getting out cuz if you slip it would be really bad. Be sure to get a water bus ticket and make sure it covers the time period (they're sold in 24 hour increments) when you are going to leave, then take the waterbus (make sure you're headed in the right direction) from the Giglio stop (maybe a 4 minute walk with luggage) to the train station. OMG this was sooo simple. Don't walk all the way to the San Marco waterbus stop, it's much farther. Just make sure you check out the walking route to the Giglio water bus stop the night before as it's down a teeny tiny little alley which you would never take unless you knew about it. To get from the train station when we arrived we sprang for the 80 euros for the private water taxi. Do this, it's fun. Stand up in back and take photos. You'll go down tiny waterways, really fun. Unless you have a lot of luggage don't bother with the luggage carriers guys outside of the train station as it's just a 20 second walk to the private water taxis. read more
