Would stay again!!

Basically told me to wait for it to cool despite me setting it as 20.5 nearly eight hours ago. It's humid, hot and gross and they could care less. Also had a gecko in our room, which was cute, but not so great with a kiddo who doesn't like things like that and literally tech laughed when I pointed it out and just left. Was initially excited cause location is great, hotel looks like, but heat in room is unbearable and the high was only 86 today - no excuse to not have cooler AC.

The price range also reflect the diversities of the hotels, ranging from under $100 to $1,000+ per night. Well, for our first stay, we chose the Bauer I'll Palazzo, based on location and our affordability. We wanted a luxury hotel, in the heart of things. And I mean literally right there! The hotel is on the Grand Canal. There's a gondola station right in front. The main shopping avenue is right in front with all the high end boutiques within a 5 minute walk. Then St. Mark's Square is also within a 5 minute walk. We stayed in a Deluxe room with partial canal view. The room was decorated in traditional Venetian style with antique furniture and marble bathroom. Luxurious, decadent, comfortable and functional. Our room also included breakfast buffet and tea time (on rooftop terrace). Breakfast on the patio on the Grand Canal is the best way to start any day, and the buffet is excellent. But sipping a cup of cappuccino, looking at the Grand Canal is a memory I will always treasure. Tea time on the roof terrace is so relaxing, I have dozed off a few times to the sounds of the city. They serve a selection of sliced meats, cheeses and fruits with teas, coffees or soft drinks. The Concierge service was outstanding! They helped us get around, find places to eat, arranged transportation and even arrange for a tour to Murano! Wonderful place to stay, so much so that we cancelled the other 5 star hotel we booked for the end of our cruise and returned here!

The only bad part of doing that is the possibility of letting mosquitoes inside. Also the layout of the bathroom could have been better. Having the toilet and something else right next to the bath/shower was a mistake. There was no room to move around. They provide a continental breakfast at a certain time. Their jam packed croissants were really tasty and I liked eating the cereal they provided. There were a lot of other good food options as well like baked ham and cheese. They do have water, orange juice, milk and coffee as well for beverages.

We had a view of the grand canal from our window, there's continental breakfast (edit: the continental breakfast had really good pastries, juice, meat, and cheese that I stocked up on before my run), the shower is the best one so far on this trip, and the staff was really nice. Only complaint is the bathroom and shower are safety hazards with the step up into the bathroom and tub to floor height differential. Also, missing some of the 5 star features, but anyhow really nice location conveniently located to the train station!

At the time I was Starwood Platinum, and I booked a King room with a view of the canal. As we checked in - after the train ride from Milan, the long water Vaporetto ride, and the cold walk from the square - the staff was quite friendly as they informed us ... I had been upgraded to a suite with a terrace on the top floor! Right across the canal from the room was the Basilica, with the Lagoon behind it and Lido off in the distance. The furnature was pure classical period style and the terrace was larger than my next room in Munich. Unfortunately it was February so the Terrace was of little use and some of the hotel facilities were not open. But it was fabulous anyway. Now, my stay may not be typical, not everyone gets upgraded to a $2,500/night hotel room. The location is great - easy walking to just about any part of Venezia. The staff was friendly and helpful. Not sure about wifi and connectivity - when we were in the room we weren't surfing the internet.

If you're dying in venice near touristy areas, you will be asked for money to assist you even if it is for a job they are hired for or if its at your expense. Pros: - close to St. Mark's square - not too expensive - breakfast came with our room - bathroom was spacious - room has some air conditioning - staff are fluent in English for English-speaking travelers Cons: - the decor looks like my grandma's idea of how fancy people decorate their homes - this seems common in a lot of hotels in Venice but is still pretty ugly - the A/C was a bit weak so the room was better than no A/C, but still a bit uncomfortable - the coffee at the breakfast tasted funky (this was not a US vs Italian coffee comparison, since I like Italian coffee just fine and the same machine at another hotel produced fine coffee) - the breakfast was poorly staffed and would regularly run out of cups, utensils, etc. with no sense of urgency to replace them as more guests arrived - the bed was very hard, though this is really common in Italy - there is no full door or curtain on the shower, it's only a partial guard that swings in and out Other information: - as others have noted, there is a view from the lobby to one of the canals, but it's limited due to the small windows, and your view is of the Hard Rock cafe across the water and some other retail stores (a lot of gondolas come through too) - the terrace on the ground floor is not a full terrace - there are individual, very small seating areas that can fit two people each outside several doors, which are good for sitting, drinking, and smoking, but not for eating, reading, or working since the table area is so small - the food in the immediate area is pretty bad due to the proximity to St. Mark's square, and we found better food further east and west as we wandered the city - you can leave your key with the front desk when you walk out of the room, but may need to wait for other guests to drop it off or pick it back up
