The location can't be beat. The hotel is just a short distance away from the Neuschwanstein Castle. One of the highlights of the hotel is their made-to-order breakfast, a delicious way to start the day before heading out sightseeing or otherwise enjoying the surroundings. The rooms were well-maintained and everything from the bed to the bathroom was pristine. One aspect that really impressed me was the front desk staff. They arranged castle tour tickets for us. Just ask at check in and they will have them for you the next morning. As for transportation, getting to the castle was easy. Either walk, take the bus, or a horse and carriage ride. Just a heads-up, the horse and carriage only accepts cash. Unfortunately, the hotel's ATM was out of order during our stay, but there was one located close to the ticket booth. Also, I recommend making the short drive to Füssen. It's a charming spot with little shops, good food, and great views of the mountains. Yelp Review 2023 #301: Located in Schwangau, you can walk to Hohenschwangau Castle from here or drive a few minutes or catch a bus to Neuschwenstein Castle. You won't find a more convenient location than this. Close to the Germany-Austria border. Actually, you can get to 2 different countries from here in less than a 2-hour drive: Lichtenstein and Austria (Innsbruck). The room is pretty basic and outdated but what you're paying for is the convenience and the location. The same thing can be said about the bathroom. It is tiled but at least it's spacious and has everything you need. You're paying about $150/ night. You can take a day trip many different places from here. You can get to Oberammergau in an hour by car. You can rent a boat at Alpsee. Aside from the great location, they have a restaurant that has good food and lots of delicious cakes and desserts. This is a quaint hotel at the base of the pathway up to Neuschwanstein Castle. It is the closest hotel to the path. On the other side is the Hohenschwangau Castle. Both are a short walking distance from the castles, but should you need to take a horse and carriage for the one mile ride up to Neuschwanstein, it is 5.5 Euro per person and it is a shared trip. Now onto the hotel: We arrived at the hotel at 11. There was no early check-in. We had to wait until 3. Not a big deal. I made the mistake of booking a double when there were two adults and one child in our group.I lucked out though as they had a triple available-a suite, #15 with a double in one room and a single in the living room. It had an extremely large balcony with a view of Hohenschwangau and of the town. It was so big you could fit a couple dozen people on it easily. Bathrooms-We had two. One had a tub and the other a shower. There was only shampoo that I am guessing was to serve as a multipurpose soap as there was no body wash or soap bar provided. The hair dryer was on a tight and short cord so you had to blow dry your hair extremely close to the wall. You also have to press down on the hairdryer for it to work (you don't just press an on button). The beds were comfortable and there were televisions in each room. The room came with bottle water. Not sure if they were free, but it was convenient. As for breakfast, they had cold meats & cheeses, hot eggs, sausage and bacon, bread, croissants, 3 or 4 different kinds of cereals and fruit. There was apple juice, orange juice, water and possibly one other juice. Try sitting in the sunnier room of the two as you have views of Neuschwanstein castle. Overall, it was a good stay. I stayed here for just one night and was not impressed. The service is terrible and I've stayed in many countries as a traveler. The front desk lady was incredibly rude with both my tour guide and me. I went to ask for several more towels as I intended to shower more than once and the towels here are incredibly small and don't dry very well. She actually asked me why do you need more towels, you have some in your room ". Wtf. This place would not stay open where I'm from. Terrible service. Then she came up to deliver the towels and instead of knocking like a normal person just opened the door. Thank goodness I was still dressed. Terrible experience and would not recommend. Restaurant experience was a bit better although we had dinner outside and besides a few Christmas lights, you will sit in the dark after the sun goes down. I had the spatzl which was a nice portion and my husband got a salad, both of which was enough for both of us to share as we weren't too hungry. read more

When the bus drivers say that this is the best food in town, we head that way! We chose to sit outside which was very nice. We seated ourselves, and our server came quickly. We ordered beers, then our meal. The menu was soups, and entrees with side dishes. Unusual was pancake soup. It was cut up pancakes in a chicken broth, and it was good! The lake perch was a hardy portion with a few grilled, tho listed as fried, vegetables. The two sides of fried (grilled) veggies and pomme Frits were just enough to get us through the day. Located at the Neuschwanstein Castle "base camp", this was a warm and inviting place. We had the goulash (beef soup) and pumpkin soup (so rich and flavorful) for starters. Next came the Wiener schnitzel (so light and crispy w/ a light lemon flavor) and the spatzle with cheese (Bavarian Mac n cheese). Dessert was Bavarian cream (whipped cream) and cream cheese cake. Both were lovely-- not too overly sweet. Great stop after touring the castle! read more

We had a wonderful experience staying at Hotel Muller during our honeymoon. My husband had been to the area with his family previously, so he had suggested staying there due to the proximity to both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. If you stay in Fussen, you need to drive or hike quite a ways up before even starting up the mountain. Hotel Muller is right at the base of both mountains. We also booked the castle package, so instead of having to go to the ticket office when it opened at 7:30am to try to get the timed tickets to the castle tours, the staff did that for us and coordinated the horse drawn carriage ride to the first castle, which picks up right in front of the hotel. The location alone was enough to make Hotel Muller the right choice of us, but the staff was also excellent. They were very friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful and the complimentary breakfast was very nice. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, so while that looked nice, I cant speak to it. I would definitely stay there again. read more
