There are many things to be a fan of this hotel, but because our sleep was interrupted and my husband's honesty was put into question, I don't think we would choose to stay here again.
Pros:
Location: Across the street from the York Place tram. After arriving from the Edinburgh airport, get yourself to the tram, pay for your ticket and sit back and relax for 40 minutes. There is even free wifi onboard. You don't even have the worry about when your stop is since York Place is the last stop on the tram. You can walk to many local areas and museums including Calton Hill, Hollyhock Palace, all of the free museums to Old Town and there is a nearby Tesco Express and Hertz for car rental needs. While Indigo York Place doesn't have their own parking lot, they share a relationship with Q Parking. It's 50% off - 10 pounds for 24 hour parking.
Friendly check in personal: Andrea was terrifically positive and friendly when my family checked in. She was full of helpful information and kindness. It was a great welcome to the hotel.
Free mini bar and free refills: Yes, you read it correctly - the mini bar is free and they will give you free re-fills either daily when housekeeping comes in or if there are some things you want right away, just call the front desk. When we stayed there, there was a different type of Scottish potato chips and marshmellow chocolates that were the favorite freebies.
Comfortable beds.
Cons:
Sheets: They smelled weirdly chemically.
Room size: Small and tight. It is a hotel in a city so room size tends to be smaller than hotels in smaller cities.
Thin walls: We were staying in room 210. While there was no one on one side of the room, we were neighbors with those staying in room 211. On our first night of our stay, we heard their door opening and closing loudly in the evening as well as their toilets flushing and their hot water going on and off. On our second night of our stay, we heard our neighbor's very loud marathon evening full of screams, slaps, and other noises. Luckily, my daughter had already fallen asleep. While I asked him to put on a noise machine from the internet and I fell asleep, he was woken up by the screams and moans throughout the night. When he finally had enough, he emailed the front desk and then went downstairs and complained. The whole brohaha woke up our daughter and myself. While the front desk immediately placed a phone call to our neighbors, which stopped their marathon, the front desk personal also questioned my husband's honesty, which left a bad taste. We were given no compensation for our lack of sleep - which also left a bad taste. For those reasons, I don't think we would stay this Indigo Hotel again. read more
