My friend and I stayed at Hotel Gilbert for a few nights at the beginning of this month when we visited Vienna. We stayed in a Double Room (Large). The room was large - you entered into a short hallway (where there was an armoire and hooks for hanging clothes and bags) and then it opened up into a large rectangular room - with the double bed, a desk, a couch, a record player, and more. The bathroom was also quite large. Overall, it was spacious. The hotel's location was great - walkable to a lot without being in the heart of Innere Stadt (quiet at night, not very touristy in the surrounding area, but close to a metro station). The price was pretty good, too. We booked through hotels.com and the room ended up being just a little under $200/night and then taxes on top of that. In NYC, that would get you a closet with a chair for a hotel room, so I did think the cost/value was fair. The service at the front desk was okay - not the most friendly, but not bad either. Breakfast is not included, so we spent 25 euros per person for breakfast our last morning. We also checked out their bar for a drink or two. Overall, it wasn't a bad hotel at all. I just didn't get warm fuzzies about it either. And what's up with no conditioner in the shower?! So strange (and wouldn't have mattered if Austrian Airlines hadn't lost both of our bags for several days each). Great location, big room. Not a bad stay at all. read more
