The Fregehaus is a converted 17th century residence in the heart of the Old City in Leipzig. The ground floor is comprised of shops and part of the building is actually used by a municipal office, but most of it is a boutique hotel. The rooms are functional, but spartan. It is well worth it, because it is literally a hundred meters to the Old City Hall and only a quarter kilometer to Auerbach's Keller. And it is relatively inexpensive (150 Euros per evening). I've had to spend over $200 a night for a Crowne Plaza back in the States for comparison.
Two considerations: there is no on-site parking. There are municipal parking garages near by. Secondly, it is not staffed 24/7. You'll be given a key to let yourself back into the building, if you go out in the evening. But there is no staff after 6 PM. We never had any issues. Just know this isn't a facility where one orders room service or where one should expect concierge service.
They did a great job with the renovation. Please note there is no elevator access (handicap access) to the attic rooms. One must climb at least one flight of stairs to reach those rooms. read more
