This hotel is absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend staying here. The location is perfect,…read moreand some of the rooms overlook the plaza and the Nikolaikirche. We received a corner room with two balconies that overlooked the plaza, and it was a delight to watch the people and excitement of the city. There are so many great restaurants, bars, and bakeries nearby. We paid $113 for our room, including breakfast, which was delicious. The staff members with whom we interacted were very friendly, and the bed was super comfy. I will definitely stay here again when I am next in Leipzig. We parked in the Q-Park Augustusplatz parking deck, which was 15 euro for overnight parking. Leipzig is very walkable, so we did not need to drive once we arrived at the hotel.

The gentleman who greeted us at the reception was terrible and unwelcoming. He bearly spoke English, and refused to honor our voucher for a complementary breakfast for two claiming that I did "not click the breakfast reservation button" when I reserved the room. We later found out that breakfast is a buffet, so extending us the courtesy would have made happy guests. The room was very small with hardly any room to open both suitcases. The room claimed to have a safe, but there was none. It was difficult to control the lights, as it was either on with the room card in the slot or off by removing the card. The TV would not turn off, and we were stuck with a constant hour loop of a burning fireplace. There were two elevators, but only one was working. The working elevator took forever to arrive. We would have taken the stairs if we were not on the fifth floor. The cleaning staff blocked the hallway each morning with their carts and expected the guests to get out of their way. It was ok for staying one or two nights, but I would not stay there any longer.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Hotel 'manager' Mr 'Ibrahim' didnt let me in and charged the whole booking…read morefee!

Location; THE BEST- across street from train station, 15 steps from the mall, right in center of Leipzig square - you are in the heart of everything. This literally can't be beat. Staff- 5 stars- they are so kind, eager to help and quick to respond, exceptional English too for their English speaking visitors, I have seen some of the same staff for several years! Food- 4-5 stars for room service and lounge, quick, good, just miss the bottle waters in the lounge and coffee in the room is not my favorite. It's not your normal Marriott coffee, it's powder packets so bring your own or head to the lounge. Room itself: 3 stars - This is where the updating needs to occur. There are no outlets at the desk to work, bathrooms are quite small, only 1 extra outlet source by your bed and at the floor by your desk. I always travel with extension cords that have multiple usb outlets for charging here knowing the outlet situation. Coffee maker is only a water pot you heat to add water to powder coffee packets. The hairdryer- you have to hold down a button the entire time to make it work and it's attached to the wall (although the power isn't too bad) Room Pros: There is a safe, there are enough hangers, there is a iron They did update their bar area this year which was awesome- large screen TV, more welcoming bar, and restaurant on site as well but tons of restaurants right outside your doorstep too.

This is a very nice hotel, posh and sophisticated decor, it gives the air of very aristocrat European feel. The Internet, however, is terribly slow. Unbearably slow. The breakfast is better than most high end hotels in bigger cities, it has good amount of meats, cheeses and herring. And you find your usual yogurt, honeycomb, juices and coffee. It is more localized than some of the American chains, so I think the herring selection is better. Germans hotels breakfasts are included, and now they tend to have herrings which is more Scandinavian in origin. I found 4 different kinds of them here as well as a fish salad. To me that makes this hotel stand out. The cheeses here is very varied, some are definitely local specialities, more pungent and had a gelatin quality to it, which is unexpected as I thought they were my typical French cheese logs. Imagine the surprise there when I took a bite into it. I liked their individual flavored waters and juices, also not found in more brand American chain hotels. The location is unbeatable, right in town center surrounded by shops and restaurants. I liked their soaps and lotions too. Good place to overnight.

If you are still reading, I have stayed at this Leipzig Penta Hotel hundreds of times and sometimes refer to it as my second home. Not sure why I haven't yelped this place earlier. Maybe it is kind of like yelping your own house? I was going to give 2 stars, but bumped it up to 3 due to the excellent and accommodating staff throughout the hotel, as well as the very good restaurant service and quality of food. It is also clean and safe, and the location while not being the best compared to the Marriott, Novotel, Westin or Radison Blue is only a short 8 minute walk to either the train station or the hot spots of the city center. Who ever did the interior decorating of this hotel was either brilliant or a nut. I am still trying to figure out what this place reminds me of. It's just a combination of funky and weird throughout....from the check in area being an extended disco bar, to the bright white albino moose light in the one corner staring down at all, to the white/brown cow hide chairs in the lobby, to the cheap furniture and carpeting, and soaps in the rooms. The beds are tiny and hard, and the pillows are too soft and thin. If the weather is warmer than 26C, you better ask for a room fan quickly because the rooms get stifling hot. At least you can open your windows here, but then it is noisy or buggy. I guess as long as I have a job and my company pays for this hotel, I can live with weird!
