Location; THE BEST- across street from train station, 15 steps from the mall, right in center of Leipzig square - you are in the heart of everything. This literally can't be beat. Staff- 5 stars- they are so kind, eager to help and quick to respond, exceptional English too for their English speaking visitors, I have seen some of the same staff for several years! Food- 4-5 stars for room service and lounge, quick, good, just miss the bottle waters in the lounge and coffee in the room is not my favorite. It's not your normal Marriott coffee, it's powder packets so bring your own or head to the lounge. Room itself: 3 stars - This is where the updating needs to occur. There are no outlets at the desk to work, bathrooms are quite small, only 1 extra outlet source by your bed and at the floor by your desk. I always travel with extension cords that have multiple usb outlets for charging here knowing the outlet situation. Coffee maker is only a water pot you heat to add water to powder coffee packets. The hairdryer- you have to hold down a button the entire time to make it work and it's attached to the wall (although the power isn't too bad) Room Pros: There is a safe, there are enough hangers, there is a iron They did update their bar area this year which was awesome- large screen TV, more welcoming bar, and restaurant on site as well but tons of restaurants right outside your doorstep too.

We received a corner room with two balconies that overlooked the plaza, and it was a delight to watch the people and excitement of the city. There are so many great restaurants, bars, and bakeries nearby. We paid $113 for our room, including breakfast, which was delicious. The staff members with whom we interacted were very friendly, and the bed was super comfy. I will definitely stay here again when I am next in Leipzig. We parked in the Q-Park Augustusplatz parking deck, which was 15 euro for overnight parking. Leipzig is very walkable, so we did not need to drive once we arrived at the hotel.

The gentleman who greeted us at the reception was terrible and unwelcoming. He bearly spoke English, and refused to honor our voucher for a complementary breakfast for two claiming that I did "not click the breakfast reservation button" when I reserved the room. We later found out that breakfast is a buffet, so extending us the courtesy would have made happy guests. The room was very small with hardly any room to open both suitcases. The room claimed to have a safe, but there was none. It was difficult to control the lights, as it was either on with the room card in the slot or off by removing the card. The TV would not turn off, and we were stuck with a constant hour loop of a burning fireplace. There were two elevators, but only one was working. The working elevator took forever to arrive. We would have taken the stairs if we were not on the fifth floor. The cleaning staff blocked the hallway each morning with their carts and expected the guests to get out of their way. It was ok for staying one or two nights, but I would not stay there any longer.

The…read moreoriginal plan was Gayle to arrive (from Paris) on Thursday night, and that we'd stay at the hotel until taking a cab to Leipzig on Saturday morning, We'd then take the train to Prague. However, my host convinced me that staying at the Westin in Leipzig and taking a little time on Friday to explore the City would be an excellent alternative. I was easily able to take one night off the Radisson reservation and add a night at the Westin. The only "complication" was that the standard Company room was sold out and that I'd need to spend a few more Euro for an upgrade. The new total was still well within Company guidelines, but a bit higher usual. The travel agent also advised that I could check in at the front desk to see if the Company rate had become available. I started to do that when Gayle and I arrived at the Westin Leipzig. After feeling a couple swift kicks, I decided to abandon that line of inquiry. Or as Gayle later remarked: Why would you turn down an upgrade? And that's one difference between an economy husband and his first-class wife. We ended up getting an upgrade to the upgrade, at no extra charge. The room was fabulous and in Gayle's mind one of her best stays ever. The room was spacious, accented by white leather furniture, comfy chairs, a great bed and a complimentary bottle of wine. The view was panoramic and facing away for city centre. It was one of those rooms that you really didn't want to leave, regardless of city sights that were waiting. The next morning, an enormous breakfast buffet was available and included with the room. And since the train station was literally across the street, it was an easy walk to our next destination. If I'm lucky to pass this way again, I'll make it a point to stay at the Westin Leipzig. It was that memorable of an experience.

This is a very nice hotel, posh and sophisticated decor, it gives the air of very aristocrat European feel. The Internet, however, is terribly slow. Unbearably slow. The breakfast is better than most high end hotels in bigger cities, it has good amount of meats, cheeses and herring. And you find your usual yogurt, honeycomb, juices and coffee. It is more localized than some of the American chains, so I think the herring selection is better. Germans hotels breakfasts are included, and now they tend to have herrings which is more Scandinavian in origin. I found 4 different kinds of them here as well as a fish salad. To me that makes this hotel stand out. The cheeses here is very varied, some are definitely local specialities, more pungent and had a gelatin quality to it, which is unexpected as I thought they were my typical French cheese logs. Imagine the surprise there when I took a bite into it. I liked their individual flavored waters and juices, also not found in more brand American chain hotels. The location is unbeatable, right in town center surrounded by shops and restaurants. I liked their soaps and lotions too. Good place to overnight.

So many things stood out about this hotel. First, there was the booking experience. I emailed the info address with my needs and got a friendly and immediate response from the general manager himself, Herr Reinhold. They made both of their suites available which proved a very good option for us with many kids and grandpa/grandma. When the evening of our arrival coincided with the soccer Eurocup, we asked if we could dine in the suite instead of in the restaurant. The catering team set up an exquisite buffet in the room that everyone enjoyed. They arranged EV charging for us and tickets to the Leipzig zoo (highly recommended). Every little need was met with a smile and a way to figure it out. Service at its best, the pandemic notwithstanding. The suites themselves were spacious and light, comfortable and well-appointed, and quiet. When in Leipzig, stay here.
