Wow wow wow! We are on a plane leaving Florence and I already miss Hotel David. Let me start by keeping this direct and to the point, if you are looking for a reason to book- BOOK! Trust me- you will not regret it. We have stayed in many hotels, and they definitely made their way to the top in hospitality! From the moment we arrived, we were kindly greeted and informed about the many offerings the hotel shares with its guests, perks like: free happy hour, assortment of beverages, complimentary breakfast etc. The atmosphere is relaxed, it's like you've stepped into a relaxed environment amongst the hustle and bustle of Florence. Oh and the rooms! Each immaculately designed. Truthfully, Hotel David had the most comfortable beds out of our entire stay in Italy! It was so nice to sleep well. Lastly, I want to shout out the staff- the people who worked here were so kind and welcoming and I truly appreciate their warmth! Next time we stay in Florence, this is where we'll be! We chose this hotel based on reviews. It is decorated with traditional Italian style so not for one seeking modern glam. It's located very near City Center, which is about a 20-30 minute walk. The taxi rate from the airport to the hotel is almost double the rate charged to the City Center area; given time, I might take a bus or walk to city center and catch a cab from there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Happy Hour is offered each night from 6:30-8:30. There are several tasty snack items (prepared breads, nuts, crackers, cheese, pastries) to munch on, as well as wine and champagne in garden area. In the Breakfast Room you will find a self serve buffet of breakfast items every morning from 7:30-10:30. In addition to croissants, breads, jams, yogurt, dry cereal, and fruit, scrambled eggs, zucchini quiche, and bacon were served. The hotel is super clean. The lighting is within the rooms is very dark and it is missing a few essential items I expect in a hotel (i.e,: facial tissue). But overall it is a good value for the money. read more

This is a great hotel with many amenities, however, I took a star off for location. It is 30 minute walk to the center of old town Florence. The breakfast was delicious. It is a buffet. The happy hour at night includes some snacks and wine. Throughout the day you can have 3 complimentary beverages including beer, coffee and soda. They have a water bottle refill station. There is a bus stop out front. There is a laundromat 10 minute walk from hotel. Staff was friendly. Place is quiet and clean. read more

Update to original review: The owner reached out to me and was extremely apologetic. She actually ended up refunding the nights we did stay and was disappointed in the experience we had. I appreciated her reaching out (very unexpected!) and relayed to her that I wished we had experienced that level of care when we were there. Original review: So. I think that the majority of reviews are being left from non Americans across sites and, honestly, that matters. We booked this hotel fully expecting it to be quaint and more like a B&B than anything else. We also knew the location was out of the hustle and bustle-not an issue for us. We enjoy walking and like seeing out of the way spots. What we did NOT expect was lack luster service, (mostly) DIY, and a musty smelling room with a bed that was like sleeping on concrete. The first night there a couple who also got into a huge fight, with doors slamming etc. I ended up ill from the musty smell (physically) and my husband developed a rash from one of the products in the bathroom (I did not use their products, only my own.) We BOTH saw a doctor immediately (yes, in Italy) and after going over a list of things, she even determined it had to be from something at the hotel and my husband actually needed a prescription. We obviously checked out and into a different hotel. Hotel David states on their site cancellations and rebooking are no issue, but still charged us our last night. While the added "amenities" are nice ("free" happy hour and breakfast) they aren't worth it. Everything is reheated, microwaved or canned. We had fresh breakfast included in all our other stays, elsewhere, and it was just so obvious. The happy hour had poor selections. Staff was nice enough, but overall seemed disinterested. This should absolutely NOT be a top rated hotel for Americans-I think our standards are different. The hotel airports we stayed at were better than this. read more

Where do I even begin??!! This is an unassuming hotel in the heart of Florence/Firenze, not too far from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city. We walked daily about 20-30 minutes to the city center, but to us, it was a fantastic location. Maybe about 10-15 minutes by taxi depending on the night. First, I just want to say that Rukman at the front desk is an absolute ROCKSTAR. We traveled from the USA for the first time, and even before we arrived, he and his team helped us secure a private transfer for our wine tasting tour. During our stay, I also had questions about some things, and he was persistent about getting an answer for me!! His follow through was amazing!! I even forgot something after checking out and he arranged to ship it to our other hotel. Shout out to Gino at the front desk who was also super helpful!! I used to work front desk at hotels and have a special place in my heart for front desk peeps!! The service here was awesome compared to other places we stayed in Italy. From the moment we arrived, we also saw a housekeeping team member tidying up the lobby even after we went into the room, everything was sparkling clean. I felt extremely comfortable and safe at Hotel David. It really is a small family feel at this place like everyone says. Breakfast is available daily in the mornings and is absolutely delicious considering that it's included. The lady and team who manages that is also such a hard worker and killing it every day!! Hotel David is a beautiful vintage hotel full of amenities, beautiful antiques, and accomodating staff. It is a bit tucked away (near the Arno), which we loved, so you will likely taxi into town (a short distance). The bathrooms are pretty and spacious, and the soap is made in Tuscany with olive oil and some heavenly scent I could not name. The gratis aperitivo features delicious Italian wines and champagnes; and the all-day coffee bar service with free drinks and sparking water was very nice in the heat. The highlight is the breakfast in a second-floor room that features a large window looking out on the rooftops of Florence. We guessed that the pastries are from the pasticerria Rimani downstairs - and they were delicious . . . custard and chocolate croissants and heavenly fresh donuts. As with many hotels in Italy, the linens are soft and cool and crisp, and the pillows divine. The staff is friendly and informed. Nicest staff, without exception. Clean. Perfectly located just a bridge or 15 min walk from shopping/restaurants. Maybe 20 mins to Piazza Michelangelo. Even the taxi drivers love the hotel people, and the longest we waited for a taxi was 5 mins and sometimes we didn't get out the front door. Free beer and wine during daily happy hour. You know what. Hotel David is five stars on a lot of travel sites and for the price, you would think, I really hope it's five stars and it was. Spend some extra money on Hotel David and you won't regret it. L O C A T I O N It's situated right next to the rive about two bridges away from Ponte Vecchio. It's about 10-15 minute walk to all the sites so really convenient. P A R K I N G Although there is parking outside that's metered, you don't have to worry because parking is free and gated which is VERY convenient. You just have to leave your keys at the front desk for them to shift cars as needed. R O O M Although you can take the escalator up to your room, we opted for the stairs to easily get to and from floors. The place is all wood and it's quite quaint. You can double lock your doors and everything has a key even the dresser! They'll ask you to leave the room keys at the front desk so they can clean the room while you're gone. There's no real vent in the bathroom except a window, so it does get a bit chilly in there and damp. The towels and shower were quite nice. The shampoo, conditioner(yay!), and lotion were very herby smelling so if you're not a fan of herbs, you may want to bring your own. The bed was comfortable and the automatic door shade that made everything pitch dark at night was quite welcomed. The minibar was free! From sodas, beers, waters (sparkling/still) AND chips and snacks. So you will not go hungry or thirsty. They also had a coffee and hot water kettle in the room. They also provide a mosquito repellent which we didn't need as it was the winter, but I'm sure would be useful during those hot days. The heater was nice as the room was very cold otherwise. B R E A K F A S T The breakfast was more than we expected considering what we got in Genoa. They have a plethora of choices from milk (soy, almond, regular) and cereal, different toasts, rolls, and pastries, quiche, tart, eggs, bacon, etc. Just beware if you're staying on the first floor as you'll get foot traffic in the morning. WIFI Wifi was great and we didn't have any problems with slow speeds or strength. O T H E R There's a lot of freebies at the hotel like a free happy hour in the afternoon where you can grab some pastries and a nice stiff drink or a coffee if you like. They do have a mini kitchenette on the first floor where the happy hour is but it also is open all day for you to use and they have prices listed for you to list and pay. S E R V I C E Service was very good and friendly and open 24 hours so that's always nice. O V E R A L L I cringed with the price per day for the hotel, but having parking and a bunch of freebies and the location...it was worth it. This hotel was awesome!! Its close enough to walk to the museums, Boboli, Pitti Palace,etc. great safe neighborhood. We stayed for eight nights in room 29, it had two bedrooms and two baths. A king and a twin. The place is spotless and very homey. Free breakfast and happy hour every day. You could not find a better breakfast anywhere! The happy hour was really fun and was between 6:30-8. The people who run and work in Hotel David really are the best. The customer service is amazing. They made our trip to Florence the best. read more

Immediately upon entering Hotel David, you will feel a strong sense of Italian hospitality. The staff are so warm, friendly, and accommodating that you will want to give them a hug after a short conversation. The rooms are quite nice. Bathrooms are stacked with a bidet, local shampoo and conditioner, and a heated towel rack. That last one took the cake for me! The mini-bar is full and free, and there is a safe in the room. You have only one key which you have to return whenever you leave the hotel. The hotel is far from city center but there is actually a city bus that picks up right around the corner, the 23 line, which only costs 1 euro each way (and they sell tickets in the hotel). Otherwise, the walk is very pleasant along the river. My only issue with this hotel is unfortunately the comfort of the bed. It is a very stiff bed, not one you want to return to after a long day of walking. Otherwise, the amenities are really amazing for the value. Free breakfast, minibar, wifi (and it's very good wifi), and happy hour between 6:30 and 8pm every night. The breakfast has all sorts of hot drinks, yogurts, scrambled eggs and fried eggs, pastries, cereals, and cheeses and meats. The happy hour has wines, aperitifs, and snacks. For the value, you can't go wrong, but you may wish to stay somewhere else if you don't want a long walk twice a day and if you prefer softer beds. read more

Quaint, perfectly clean, and well-located! The staff at Hotel David were consistently friendly and helpful. They helped us with tips for getting around the city, offered excellent restaurant recommendations, and they were cheerful about needing to go above-and-beyond on a few housekeeping requests. The breakfast is way better than what most B&B's offer, and they offer a complimentary happy hour every evening as well! Wifi, internet, mini bar, 1 free international phone call (10 min), and laundry facilities... what more can one ask for?? The rooms were well-designed, and the view off our balcony included the Duomo and the famous Florence sunsets. If I ever get to go back to Florence, I will definitely stay here again! read more

Excellent hotel. Free happy hour 6-8pm- even vegan stuff available! Tapenades, peppers, salsa, breads and crackers, and pretty darn good wine! Made a meal out of it. Really nice idea of the gathering, it encouraged us to get to know other travelers. The place is outside the restricted area ZTL. The private, safe, free parking is a big plus! This was one of the nicest hotels we ever stayed at. Everyone that worked here was so nice. They had happy hours with complementary wine. They gave very good recommendations for dinner, taking care of the reservations so I could surprise my wife on her birthday. Even though it's not directly in the middle of the city, you should stay here because they will take good care of you. They got us out of a bind. One day we were there, we got in trouble with the transportation officer when we failed to get our bus passes validated (and the hotel did warn us about this). The officers were going to ticket us for $150 but the manager of the hotel came out, and after talking to them in Italian for about 15 minutes, the officers left without making us pay a fine. Note --- I do not recommend putting this to the test, we were very lucky we were so close to the hotel -- just validate your bus passes and be safe. But this is an example of the wonderful service and how they go above and beyond. Stay here if you are in Florence! read more

This is a great little hotel...off the beaten path but not so far that you can't walk or take a short cab ride to wherever you need to go. The rooms are a pretty descent size, very clean and the mini bar is free! They have a cocktail hour later in the day with wine and a few nibbles...and an outside seating area that was lovely to relax in and enjoy. The buffet breakfast was very nice as well.
