    Nightly happy hour
    Sherry W.

This is a great hotel with many amenities, however, I took a star off for location. It is 30 minute walk to the center of old town Florence. The breakfast was delicious. It is a buffet. The happy hour at night includes some snacks and wine. Throughout the day you can have 3 complimentary beverages including beer, coffee and soda. They have a water bottle refill station. There is a bus stop out front. There is a laundromat 10 minute walk from hotel. Staff was friendly. Place is quiet and clean.

Where do I even begin??!! This is an unassuming hotel in the heart of Florence/Firenze, not too far from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city. We walked daily about 20-30 minutes to the city center, but to us, it was a fantastic location. Maybe about 10-15 minutes by taxi depending on the night. First, I just want to say that Rukman at the front desk is an absolute ROCKSTAR. We traveled from the USA for the first time, and even before we arrived, he and his team helped us secure a private transfer for our wine tasting tour. During our stay, I also had questions about some things, and he was persistent about getting an answer for me!! His follow through was amazing!! I even forgot something after checking out and he arranged to ship it to our other hotel. Shout out to Gino at the front desk who was also super helpful!! I used to work front desk at hotels and have a special place in my heart for front desk peeps!! The service here was awesome compared to other places we stayed in Italy. From the moment we arrived, we also saw a housekeeping team member tidying up the lobby even after we went into the room, everything was sparkling clean. I felt extremely comfortable and safe at Hotel David. It really is a small family feel at this place like everyone says. Breakfast is available daily in the mornings and is absolutely delicious considering that it's included. The lady and team who manages that is also such a hard worker and killing it every day!! I absolutely loved my stay here and would come back again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend Hotel David and am already looking forward to staying here the next time we are in Florence! (:

Excellent stay at Hotel David, summer 2022 front desk is very accommodating, the room was clean and nice, and they had parking for our car, the bus to go into Florence is two minutes away overall we are very happy with our choice and would recommend it

You know what. Hotel David is five stars on a lot of travel sites and for the price, you would think, I really hope it's five stars and it was. Spend some extra money on Hotel David and you won't regret it. L O C A T I O N It's situated right next to the rive about two bridges away from Ponte Vecchio. It's about 10-15 minute walk to all the sites so really convenient. P A R K I N G Although there is parking outside that's metered, you don't have to worry because parking is free and gated which is VERY convenient. You just have to leave your keys at the front desk for them to shift cars as needed. R O O M Although you can take the escalator up to your room, we opted for the stairs to easily get to and from floors. The place is all wood and it's quite quaint. You can double lock your doors and everything has a key even the dresser! They'll ask you to leave the room keys at the front desk so they can clean the room while you're gone. There's no real vent in the bathroom except a window, so it does get a bit chilly in there and damp. The towels and shower were quite nice. The shampoo, conditioner(yay!), and lotion were very herby smelling so if you're not a fan of herbs, you may want to bring your own. The bed was comfortable and the automatic door shade that made everything pitch dark at night was quite welcomed. The minibar was free! From sodas, beers, waters (sparkling/still) AND chips and snacks. So you will not go hungry or thirsty. They also had a coffee and hot water kettle in the room. They also provide a mosquito repellent which we didn't need as it was the winter, but I'm sure would be useful during those hot days. The heater was nice as the room was very cold otherwise. B R E A K F A S T The breakfast was more than we expected considering what we got in Genoa. They have a plethora of choices from milk (soy, almond, regular) and cereal, different toasts, rolls, and pastries, quiche, tart, eggs, bacon, etc. Just beware if you're staying on the first floor as you'll get foot traffic in the morning. WIFI Wifi was great and we didn't have any problems with slow speeds or strength. O T H E R There's a lot of freebies at the hotel like a free happy hour in the afternoon where you can grab some pastries and a nice stiff drink or a coffee if you like. They do have a mini kitchenette on the first floor where the happy hour is but it also is open all day for you to use and they have prices listed for you to list and pay. S E R V I C E Service was very good and friendly and open 24 hours so that's always nice. O V E R A L L I cringed with the price per day for the hotel, but having parking and a bunch of freebies and the location...it was worth it. I would definitely come back and stay here again next time we go to Florence as our two night stay was not enough to enjoy everything here.

The hotel is in an intelligently restored old building, keeping the authentic walls and frescos and blending them with modern amenties. Our room was quite large, with plenty of room to spread out during our seven night stay. A large, comfortable bed, A/C, clothes closet, safe, mini fridge, 50 inch TV - all made this feel like home. The bathroom is gorgeous: shower, two sinks and a tub. Privacy might be a concern for some: only a curtain separates the bathroom from the bedroom and the toilet door is all glass. The staff was incredibly gracious and helpful throughout - top-notch and the best we found in our 3+ weeks in Italy. Personalized attention and concern, very refreshing. The morning breakfast, kicked off with cappuccino, featured a wide array of cheeses, pastries, fresh-squeezed juices and a delicious Benedict. Asides from a short snack, this was heavy enough to tide us over till dinner. The breakfast takes place in an elegant side room: small, individual tables with table cloths gives it a restaurant feel. Perfect location on a quiet side street near the Arno River, letting you escape the intense crowds for a short time. We took advantage of a small convenience store around the corner to replenish bottled water and various sundries. We will definitely stay here if we have the opportunity to return to Florence.

As none was in our room, we called the front desk at Hotel Degli Orafi to request one. Instead of the typical, "we'll send it right up," we were told they couldn't provide one for "security reasons." Bewildered at how lending a guest an iron could present a security issue, and knowing that even most mid-level hotels routinely provide irons in guest rooms, I decided I needed to speak face to face with front desk personnel to understand what this meant. Because as best I could surmise, the only "security" issues that could possibly arise from use of an iron are 1) that I might use it to bash or burn my girlfriend (she's far too lovely for that), or 2) I might steal it. Neither of which I had any plan to do, nor gave hotel staff any reason to suspect. When I presented these two scenarios to the front desk attendant, and asked what other security issue might be of concern, she said a guest might burn themself. Seriously?!? In other words, the security risk they sought to minimize was not that toward third parties I might attack with their iron, nor to the hotel itself, were I to steal it, but rather it was the risk to myself they were concerned about. Of all the lame excuses she could have contrived, that one deserved a double take! In 40 years of travels, having stayed in dozens of hotels on five continents, never have I heard an innkeeper express concern for a guest burning themself with an iron! While her explanation was the lowest point of my Hotel Degli Orafi experience, it wasn't the only low point. See photos.

When we finally got to our room when it was ready at night; that's where everything went downhill. The hotel online said AC, turns out there is a law Florence has where no hotels are allowed to use AC for the time being? I'd say it's my fault, but there really should be a notice of the temporary change or a removal of the AC featuring on their website. The worst part? Rooms were so hot we were encouraged to open the windows.... Only to learn that an army of mosquitos were let into our room. We spent at least an hour battling the army and squishing as many as we could find. We had to sleep, and woke up to bites all over my arms and face. Even the next night with all the windows closed, we are still finding mosquitos so there must be a way they're getting in even with the window closed. The beds are hard and the pillows are PAPER thin, so uncomfortable. They only have a combo body wash/shampoo, which is the same scent as the hand soap... how does the hotel not have that separated or at the very least offer conditioner?? The hotel we stayed at in Venice with the same issue was WAY better than this one. The worst part - when we went to ask for more bath towels because our towels are COVERED in blood and dead mosquitoes, the man at the front desk tried accusing us of being loud at 2am "because neighbors commented." Are you joking me?! So inconsiderate to accuse. The convenience of the location to the adjacent town is nice, and that is LITERALLY the only perk. If you like a ton of stairs, uncomfortable accommodations and not as nice hospitality, I invite you to stay here. The charm of this place being old is just not worth the money, go literally anywhere else.

From start to finish, we were treated like royalty. The room was absolutely GD ridiculous. We kept thinking that they put us in there by mistake because we did not feel worthy. When we arrived, the person who brought up our bags was instructed to do so after we had been in the room for a few minutes. It was almost as if the luggage was treated as dirty in terms of us having to see it being brought up. This strategically gave us a few minutes to oogle over the room. We really wanted a king bed after our last trip to Europe had us in some really small beds. What we didn't realize is that we'd be getting a full suite. Our only regret is not bringing along a friend because we certainly had the space for it. The couch was about as wide as a double bed. Every single corner of the hotel was perfectly designed. The entry way, the stairs, the elevators, the gym, etc. The service was excellent from start to finish. There was almost always a doorman when we arrived and departed, there to greet us with a smiling face. Even a few days before arriving, they emailed me and said, "if you need absolutely anything at all, we are at your complete disposal." That was not just talk -- they would have done anything we needed, it felt like! They also called us a cab for the morning of our early flight, which was very helpful. They had hard boiled eggs, toast, fruit, and croissants. They have drip coffee, and you can order espresso for a little extra. We made regular use of the rooftop terrace. The quality of the drinks depended on who was working. There was a fine young Italian man, and I mean fine, who made our best cafe latte. The older gentleman didn't have the same espresso machine skills, but the Bellini he made me turned out great. The location is perfect. It's not far from all of the major sites and it's right next to a bridge. I highly recommend eating and shopping across the bridge. There are less people and you can get better deals.
