Need a little zest in your life? Looking for some adventure? Well then, I highly recommend you pay a visit to The New York Times travel section. Be warned, one click of the button and you might find yourself traveling half the world round in search of a charming little Viking town by the name of Lund (pronounced "Loond") in the Skane region of Sweden. I can think of worse things to happen during a hohum afternoon at the office.
So, here I am. Sitting on top of my duvet-covered bed in an attic-style room in Lund, Sweden sending Yelp love back to Indy. A few reasons I think you should be here with me right now - - hot blondes, bicycles galore, rose bushes growing out of cracks on the street and a sausage named after the city - Lundaknake. You'll find our hotel tucked away on a side street with old world charm on the exterior and "Ikea design" in the interior. If you want to stick to your American ways, you'll take the elevator - if you're trying to prove we're not toooo lazy, take the stairs and find me on the fourth floor (down the hall from the sauna and rooftop patio). The clean and cozy room in which I am sitting has exposed wooden beams, an attic feel with a corner window, free Wifi, a desk with two comfy chairs and a charming tub that takes the modern approach to a Clawfoot tub. The front desk attendants were very helpful in pointing out great local restaurants and filling our stomachs with duck and Swedish beer. Here we are - stomachs full, watching Swedish tv and preparing for another day.
In the morning, we'll wake to a breakfast buffet in the basement of the hotel and walk just one block to the center of the city. When we're ready to head back to Copenhagen, we can take relief knowing that it will only require 5 - 6 blocks of our loudass American bags dragging down the sidewalk to arrive at the train station.
