This hotel used to be an apartment hotel but was taken over by Scandic some time ago and that was a real improvement. In the beginning it was easy to feel that they were really trying to make it great and since it had been an apartment hotel the rooms were big. Since then the initial enthusiasm may have washed off or perhaps I have just been unlucky lately but it feels as if it is sliding a bit.
The check.-in is occasionally very busy, especially when groups arrive and there appears to be no readiness to have more people behind the counter even if the hotel is fully booked so it can lead to long waits to check-in (or check.-out in the morning). The rooms are pretty good, I like the they are (by European standards) rather large and the furniture, while simple, is fairly new and modern. It is always possible to sit and work at a desk and there is a separate table to eat at (most rooms have small kitchens or kitchenettes) so a nice touch. The rooms are also equipped with basic kitchen equipment in addition to the standard things like an iron, ironing board, free wifi and TV (with decent selection of channels). The drawback is that some of the rooms can have a smell of food so had to request to change rooms a few times.
The bathrooms are very simple and in typical Scandic style there is crappy quality big bottles of combined shower gel and shampoo - would be ok if staying at a 2 star hotel but not if one has ambitions of being a good hotel. Annoying at this particular hotel is also that the shower often has water coming outside the shower area and there is no towel provided to keep on the floor (in yet another attempt to save money). Other disturbing things are that if one forgets toothbrush or toothpaste it is not possible to obtain free as in competing chains in the same price range - no, at Scandic when can buy it downstairs at prices that would make a convenience store blush for ripping you off.
There is a nice gym that can be used free of charge and it has modern equipment and plenty of space. There is no room service but there is a not so great restaurant on site (but go elsewhere for food). Breakfast used to be very good since one in addition to the buffet could order omelets, fried eggs etc. This has however not been the case the last few times (not sure if it has been temporary time restraints or not) but that has really made me consider switching back to staying at Elite as I always did before. read more
